Watmough never again in a Manly jersey?

Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

The truth finally comes out, he wasn't leaving because he was pi$$ed off at Manly for not giving Gifty a new contract, he was only using that as a Red Herring, the reality is that Parra offered him a three year deal after 2015 and we only offered two years.
WE all know Matai was offered something similar with the Warriors, but at least he didn't make a song and dance about it,he just simply approached the club if an early release was possible.
A lot of thanks to Brad Arthur as well, Manly gave him a chance to be where he is, because there is no way in the world that he would have been a first grade coach so rapidly if not for our success last year, so how does he repay us?, by conspiring to get our players, nice one Brad.
I would be very pissed off if Manly contributes one cent to Watmaugh's contract for Parra next year, sure, give him what he's owed, but if they have salary cap problems and can't fully accommodate Watmaugh's contract for next year, then tough sh#t for Choc and Parra, they can try again the following year.

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

Best thing for the club. Even if they offered him the same money , things still would of been sour between the players.

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

I read that article too. Good luck to him.
Cant begrudge him for going for the big cash on offer. You either sell your soul and go for the big cash at other clubs, or stay at Manly for a bit less and win premierships and move closer to that bracket of never-play-against-Manly legends, like Menzies, King, Lyons, Toovey etc.

However as you said, it seems he *may* have been overemphasizing the Gifty situation as a reason to look for a hefty contract elsewhere. But this subject must be tread carefully, as no one truly knows if he was going to Parra for the dollars and not because of the Gifty no contract thing.

Stay open minded...

Re. Choc,
gone, Daddy, gone, your love is gone.

I could suffer him going to Canberra, but Parramatta, tho' we all knew it was coming, it's going to be an affront to the senses to see him in Eels clobber.

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

Hasn't he left because they offered 3 years and Manly only 2...cant see where that relates to big dollars it relates to ONE YEAR....

You have a short memory Choc, why didn't u back yourself, that if u continued to play at the level that your pay-packet demands that you would of have got another year at manly.

I'm with you Wheel...watch the door, you will never be a Manly legend in my eyes....U have disrupted our season/team and shown total disrespect for all things Manly...Disgusted

I really hope Manly aren't conned into paying him a cent above what he is owed up to the end of this season. If he wants to walk away surely there can be no suggestion that he still gets any of next year's money!

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

In professional sports these things are par for the course. Salary caps mean people move on.

Having said that, this whole thing was handled abysmally.

Glad he is gone to be honest.

Choc is leaving because he doesn't like the way the board handled players and he's going to the only club with a MORE dysfunctional board - Choc logic...

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

Hes gone. Full stop.

Now the club can move on and focus on re signing the players who want to be at the club.

The time has come to stop wasting energy and dollars on guys who are not committed.

Choc has been a great servant and he is now the past. Maybe now we can get some closure because without a doubt this soap opera has seriously undermined any chance we had of success this season.

Seeya Choc Parra can look forward to his big mouth his sideways running his fumbling hands and his shocking play of the balls.
At least now we can free up some salary cap money and buy some descent forwards.

I just really want him gone, one top season and a few good ones

A penalty and a dropped ball or 2 a game

A commercial nightmare of a player

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

No big loss at all. This is a blessing in disguise. Gives us a chance to free up some salary cup money.. I'd like to say thanks for the memories but the memories he left us with aren't that great especially after the past two months.
Gifty all class. Watmough no class.

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

so... can Glenn renege on his rabbits deal now and stay at manly with his bro lol?

I dont think figures have been quoted but would you leave Manly for Parra for equal money? There is a price to pay for taking a player away from his childhood club - decent $'s. They gave Will Hoppa 800K per year. Logic says Choc would be getting a minimum of 100K more per year being at Parra, you would think. Those are ball park guesses of mine. There is no way he is getting same money being at Parra.

My 2c

RE: Watmaugh - In the end, it was all about money

Forget the $300k , sadly that's ours for next year.

The figure quoted is $670k, so the Eels would have to come up to that figure OR more for this to be only about money.

If say $750 was offered, and for four years , I can see,

1) why Manly wouldn't go near that
2) why he'd be mad not to go, IF, it's about the money

The sad thing for him is that he's trashed his legacy at the Sea Eagles, all for the mighty dollar.

I think he's had some VERY bad advice

Why would he want to after the way he was treated?
