Maybe Des can convince a few of these guys off-contract - like Walks - to stick around at a reasonable price, as we are seemingly building to something special. Should we win a premiership in the coming couple of years, Walker is only 26 - he could spend a couple of years more at Manly on around 300-400k, then as a 2-time premiership winning player in a few years time get a huge payout swansong in the SL should money be his main thing.

Alternative is to get slightly more coin now to go and play for teams under Trent, Madge or Walters - all of whom are coaches who have shown they chop/change when things don't go to plan and have none of the loyalty Des shows his players (even if that loyalty is detrimental short-term).

On current form its hard to justify replacing almost any of that backline, but I think Walker brings more versatility than others in the backline and hence can be a handy hold at the right price.

Given Walker's off-field troubles and on-field injuries limiting game-time, I would be showing him the door immediately if he doesn't realise his value has diminished.

He only stays on lower pay, with an adjusted attitude of his worth across the board. Tough but fair feedback on a guy many of us want to succeed, but who has never quite got there for reasons both of his own making, and through some rotten luck - that's simply how the cookie crumbles sometimes. Its time for Dylan to be humble, re-earn his position and esteem, and show us why his potential was rated so high in more than small doses and brief flashes - week on week he needs to be consistent and hungry, because a lot of younger guys are doing that today and doing really well at it.

If Dylan's manager comes to the table with an entitled attitude trying to play hardball then I wouldn't even negotiate, and i'd be shutting that down in the same manner we shut down Nathan Brown's demands.

From memory Walker took a significant cut to sign on this season (300k -400k), he signed for the lower deal as he thouhe ain’t on that huge coin he originally signed on for in his first deal.

If he can bulk up in the off season and work on his defence he could be the ideal 13 in the team.

I hope he remains injury free and gets a spot in the 13 this season, the more attacking options you have under the new rules the more lethal the team becomes.

Agreed but 4/5 players out of the current squad will either not be resigned, or leave of their own accord. Boyle, Gosiewski definitely will not be resigned. Garrick, Walker potentially to leave of their own accord, maybe we also punt Suli (only if we can rehome him for 2022 by paying some of his freight) Croker could walk as well (he won't be happy to play at Blacktown if Fainu is available, and Lawton is the 14). Cust as well potentially. I can't see Siro as a starting backrower ever again. It's hard to justify resigning him as well, with the squad depth we now have. I hope we retain Garrick and Croker from the above, but if Foran plays another year, Croker won't hang around for Reggie's. Garrick becomes the priority to keep somehow, but that might not happen. Des has a few decisions to make. Interesting times ahead.
from this list i'd definitely be happy to see gone;
  • sironen - isnt he on like 450k?
  • boyle
  • gosiewski

the rest not really but depends what happens.
Will Croker not be happy with an extra year as second fiddle to fainu?
I don't think you can make a decision on croker until the fainu case is settled.

Parker I think we definitely resign given how good his defence is, and the fact he's part of the fabric of the club.

Walker I'd be happy to IF we don't pay much for him. I'm skeptical about him leaving as I don't think there's much attacking spark in harper, parker and suli for the centres... but if he does, so be it, he's been a grub off the field. Hopefully Koula is coming through and ready to be a good centre option.

Cust will probably leave if he isn't getting game time.

I hope we re-sign sione fainu.

if he plays really well as a #14 i'd resign him, as this type of specialist 13 is becoming more dangerous each year with the new rules.

I thought it was reduced for one year then back up?

In the off season i suggested this could be the path of how Manly could use Walker as a central more dynamic link to Foran and DCE---Walker can also be used in a floating centre role similar to Tom in Origin.

Manly will probably gradually increase Dylan's game time for confidence and fitness and i think you might find one of our centres being replaced.(not because they are playing bad but just for added attacking potential for the big end of season games to reach that extra level.)

Manly have so many ballplaying or passing options all around the park we can really be creative and move teams around breaking up defensive structures with more crisp lateral movement.

Manly have DCE,Foran,Tom,Josh,Dylan,Jake,Lawton who can all add passing or ballplaying options to our attack. To be honest the need for Jake is less and less now, especially with the way Lawton is playing offering more spark through the middle.(yes he is not passing in the way Jake does but I'm sure is capable with time)

Boz, he played 1st receiver and in the middle, not really in the centres.
I know that mate . I was saying that it was his first run for a long time and he looked electrifying . We could do with more electrifying dominance in the centres .

The moral of the story is that Backs that poses more abilities create more possibilities .

The season has a long way to go and our team and players will be put to the test against the best and we need to have the best performing players to take them on ,
With Dylan after only one game for a while the best is yet to come and at his best he is our most destructive centre

While I agree he is our best attacking centre, it has to be balanced with defence, which is arguably more important for centres in the modern game. If he can show that he can work together with his edge and put his body on the line then he is a walk up starter.

I agree feathered freind . No player should be a walk up start unless they are capable of rising to our Legendary clubs great high standards of excellence in both defence and attack .

Dynamic attacking centres thrill and an in form Dylan Walker goes in for the Kill !!!
Watch The Match Winner and enjoy
Speed is cocaine on the footy field
Take it away Dylan >>>>>>

The commentator is left mesmerized as the Cowboys were demoralized

Speed kills and the faster you go the bigger the mediocre mess you leave behind

I think Des hinted on the weekend that Parker may be the one who makes way for Walker or even Suli by pushing Parker to the wing with Suli playing centre , but I did notice parker and Suli swap a few times , Once Walker gets full fitness I think he will be one centre with Parker, Harper and Suli fighting for the other centre position

That could also just be that Des doesn't see Suli as a capable winger.
