Walker cleared to play.

Walker likely to be stood down for three months. IF Manly gets salary cap relief, who do we go for??
Will Hoppa, but I can’t see us getting salary cap relief if stood down for 3 months. I mean, the NRL will say he is still available for over half the season (if found not guilty), so treat it as if he was injured.

Read this gem from Shoddy at the press conference:

‘When questioned about the consistency of the new rule, Greenberg said “consistency is overrated”.

“[People] want fairness, they want to know that when we apply sanctions we do it fairly... I can’t promise you consistency,” he responded.’

Umm?

This guy is meant to run the game!

Toddles, please see the definition of consistent, I'm sure the word "fair" is in there somewhere.
Ask anyone over the age of seven and I'd reckon that they'd equate consistent with fair.

consistent
Dictionary result for consistent
/kənˈsɪst(ə)nt/
adjective
  1. 1.
acting or done in the same way over time, especially so as to be fair or accurate.
"the parents are being consistent and firm in their reactions"

Couldn’t you have picked someone else to touch you up.

I just thought of the biggest grub.

But see where this could head? I understand the NRL is trying to show some leadership and protecting the game, but if this decision was made years ago then Snake would have been stood down for ages.

And it could happen to any player who is out and get's on the wrong side of a group of blokes, or declines a womans advances who looks for revenge.

For what it is worth, I agree that Dylan has been more trouble than he is worth, based on numerous previous on and off field incidents. If the club choose not to retain him for next year I will 100% support that.

However... He is currently before the courts and in the meantime his punishment or suspension should have nothing to do with anything apart from the court verdict.

Disgraceful. If any of the RL media are still actually independent they would be all over this comment.
Pray tell what these "numerous" incidents were? I can recall 2 > The pain killer incident (which only harmed himself) & the door punching incident (again which only harmed himself). Yes can be a dickhead on the field, however there are many worse dickheads on the field than Walker! Please don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning what Walker is accused of but to disown the guy based on accusations from the police?? Really?? Based on what evidence? The same evidence they had on Brett Stewart? Wow so reliable! Therefore based on the no dickhead policy we should disassociate ourselves from AFB, the Hopoate clan, Brett Stewart, Anthony Watmough etc. Whatever the outcome of all this $hit, Beattie & Greenberg will destroy rugby league & when they do will walk away with a $hitload of money...........i hope De Bellin & Dragons & whoever else they stand down sue the ar$e of the NRL & launch Civil damages cases against both Greenberg & Beattie. How wonderful it would be to see both these idiots squeal like the spineless twats they are! Just sayin'............

I just heard something disturbing on the news. Future decisions on players who could be stood down in cases like the ones above will be decided by Greenturd alone. Surely the clubs cant allow this. This crooked git has already demonstrated how selective he is when it comes to dishing out punishments. I still want someone to tell me how the hell Lodge was allowed near the game after what he did in NYC??? There needs to be an independent arbitrator who should decide what to do in relation to players who transgress!!
The lunatics are running the asylum.

If stood down by the NRL, any salary cap dispensation is not automatic. It gets decided on a case by case basis... at the sole discretion of Todd Greenberg

They also said that if a club does get salary cap dispensation, it would be the club that has to pay the money for the replacement without any additional salary crap assistance.

They said not many clubs would be able to find the funds for a replacement.

God damn it, we never used to have these types of issues when the godfather was charge. The game was at an all time high. All we have today are Muppet's in charge of the asylum @
Only because the godfather fired players at will behind closed doors. Protected the Fans from the crimes that some chose to commit @
Players didn't have the money in those days to hire lawyers to challenge the ARL.

Greenturd is trying to reclaim that power but now his authority is going to be challenged in a court :nerd:

OK - here are my simplistic thoughts:

as a player, If I was accused of a crime (and I was innocent) I would be an absolute mess, completely distracted from my work, and would be hell bent on defending myself. If I had the opportunity to stop working, receive full pay, and mount my defence.... I would be eternally grateful to my employer. ho cares about missing a few games of footy versus being wrongly convicted of rape?

If I was accused of a crime and was guilty....... yet I was given full support and pay by my employer AND gardening leave - well helluluja, I have hit the frikkin JACKPOT. I get away with some extra pay when really I should lose my job.

This solution is actually pretty good. Extended it to any criminal charges.... it is in the best interest of your employees. Who cares about games of footy when it comes to potential jail time?

Walker should be stood down on full pay and allowed to focus on his family. If he is guilty, he should never play league again. If he is innocent, his family doesn't suffer financially, and he can get his head (and body) in the best possible shape.

Manly can use the money freed up in the cap, and don't have the liability of a distracted staff member.

And - IMO rather importantly - US FANS can support our team without having the worry about whether or not we are harbouring a criminal.

As long as the player receives full pay and meets the club's requirements in all but playing the game, that is a reasonable option. But even if found guilty, unless imprisoned, I wouldn't be taking him out of the game, but rather finding some means to punish him without causing his family to struggle financially. Its about the player who committed the crime. The club and family should not have to suffer for his behaviour, otherwise the innocent are being penalised unfairly.

fair call @Bearfax

having said that..... if I am working for a bank, or the post office, or a telco, and I get done for a crime which sees me incarcerated or lose my licence, there is a high probability that I will lose my job. My family is then impacted.

My employer has no duty of care to support/protect my family - that is MY job. Which I failed at.

So, what is to stop me, you, anyone from having a chance encounter with a league player, perhaps I am at the airport or nightclub and see for example Cam Smith has come into the mens room to use the loo.

i walk out, call the police saying I was touched innapropriately, he gets charged...

See where this decision can lead.....

Especially when some bookie has paid you $ a fortnight before the grandfinal to do it ...

Toddy has to be careful with Dylan and it is completely different to DeBelin and many other cases - the person who was allegedly assaulted has under oath in court stated it didn’t happen.

At this stage of the proceedings to suspend and/or fine him would be unconscionable - however Toddy is capable of anything so I am expecting a suspension of at least a month

Toddy's inner circle of media brown noses were say 3 months.

As we all know they are used to leak info in order to prepare the audience so things are not really a shock when stupidity strikes again.
