Trump

I’m no trump supporter, but there seems to be a misconception that he has imposed tariffs where there previously were none (“tariffs bad”). As far as I can tell, he has simply redressed a previous imbalance in already existing tariffs, which seemed to have manifested over many decade, to the detriment of American industry. You only have to look at the state of the auto industry in Detroit for an example. If we start from the position that tariffs are a necessary part of international trade, then the debate becomes one of negotiating the right levels. I’m not sufficiently qualified to say what those are, and I suspect no one on this forum is. I can see the logic of what trump is doing, albeit it is a gamble given the seismic change needed to address decade long imbalances, and the consequential knock on effects to inflation, stock markets etc. Time will tell whether the gamble pays off.

Serious question - Australia is not the USA, so why do you want the USA to prosper at the expense of Australia? His policies, eg his tariffs, harm Australia.

Because ... Australia's future very much depends on a strong America ... duh ... a weak, woke, lefty, petticoat wearing USA is exactly what your comrades in the Chinese and Russian communist parties want ... and your other anti-free speech crony from North Korea dreams of.

I think you'll find Donald Trump is the one with a comrade in the Russian (so-called) 'communist' party.
As for free speech, I thought you supported free speech?

He is a 'real' leader of his country, not like the 'pretend' so called 'leader' of this country, who denies everything and blames everybody else for his poor leadership. It's time for him to go.
