Trial v Roosters

Also have to give credit to Perrett who I recently voiced doubts,Looked massive in Reggies ,showed aggression in runs and hits ,scored a try he had no right in getting ,man handling three defenders over to score a try.Would say he was best out there .
The Blacktown Fullback (not sure his name)looked quality also having a hand in at least 2 tries and scoring ( I think) 2 tries himself.Wright looks solid ,great speed from standing still and can easily make holes from nothing.Looked like a massive unit also, very encouraging .But wouldn' expect to see him this year in firsts unless for mass injuries.

Isn't it annoying that the game doesn't get streamed or put on tv....yet after the game there's endless highlights showing that someone from some company recorded the bloody thing!

Maybe we should have said JT was playing then as they descend upon the game in a cowboys lovefest we roll out Jake, Joel, Jorge...

Annoying!

Seems promising. Tom needs to be a lot better defence wise, seen Tedesco chip try poor there. He a match winner but that needs to improve.
Goal kicker someone step up please, afb he seems set for big year.

I really enjoyed the game last night, thought we where the much better side they just got a little luck.

Well worth the trip to Heaven from Western Sydney (would love to relocate the pearly gates to the central coast one day)

Think we have a champion center in Tom.T just need to find a natural fullback so he can shift

Thanks for your response Terry. Personally I am convinced Kelly will do well. But its about Tom Wright I now focus.

I also wasnt sure if Tom Wright was ready for Firsts. And I didnt see the Blacktown game so again I'm basing this on hearsay. TW had a good though unexceptional game in the first trial. I thought at that stage he needed half a year to play with the big boys. But apparently like with U20s, he was a level above the other Intrust backs, except maybe Hastings, and dominated in the game. If that was the case then he's ready.

I would suggest he is a much better option that Matt Wright, and he offers more than Parker, though the latter wouldnt let us down. I just think, like so many players with skill in the past, its better to get them in there learning the trade against the best, if they can handle the pressure, than keep them lingering in reserves. He's 21 and Manly have had 18 years olds playing firsts. He's a real X factor player and would make a great combination with Tom T. in the backline movements. From what has been reported, I say get him in there.
Bear, my take on T. Wright is that he is a prodigious talent with a seemingly wonderful career ahead of him.

Is he ready yet? I don't know, my gut feel is no ... not from any physical shortcoming ... but more from an experience and mental maturity point of view.

But Baz has shown with wee lachie, that he is prepared to throw youth and inexperience in at the deep end if he feels they are up to it ...

I have confidence that the coaching staff are well aware of Tom's strengths and weaknesses ... and that they will not keep him in reggies 1 week longer than they feel they have to ...

The irony in the headlines is hard to fathom

Ok, the $64,000 question for @Freagle @ALinda @TerryRandall @Harry Smith @davohan123 @Spartan Eagle and any other who attended is ....

Based solely on last nights performance, do you feel we will be a) better b) the same or c) worse ... than last year.

Gut feel is fine .... so is a one word answer ...
Same or better. Just seemed like a more experienced team in the critical areas. More composed than roosters. Really was just three or four unlucky moments or slight lack of concentration that cost us, and they all led to tries. With more props on the bench, we would have dominated the middle even more. Jake looked every bit the gun forward who now has international experience. Vast difference between last night and 2016 when we didn’t have a recognised 5/8.

Yeah beginning to think this may be case. Tom Wright?

We have a better squad than last year and believe we will do better due to depth. I know people have reservations on T.Wright due to lack of experience but he is solid and quick. He has a lot more value to offer than M.Wright especially if it seems that DCE will be taking over the kicking duties. IMO he should get a go.

Mitchell kept them in the game, how he scored his second try was beyond me, he had carried about four of our players over the tryline yet still managed to ground the ball

I didn’t see the game but sounds like latrell mitchel was pretty damaging. Interesting to see if him and tommy both get a run in origin, Freddy has openly said he loves latrell.

I'm very confident, especially with Tanginoa showing signs of being another wrecking ball the forwards now look more solid, Croker will slot in well, manly will continue to develop and improve defencively

So definitely vote for a)

He was facing Matt Wright, so although he was good it was likely boosted by Wright's slow and rather slack defence last night. Wright did some good although i'd probably prefer we'd use Parker for rd 1

I'd say better. Certainly will be better in the forwards, as a few have stepped up from last year and with the addition of Thomo. The backs I'm not so sure, as it depends on how well Walker returns. If he comes back strong, then top 8 is doable and looking good.
Of course it depends on injuries and, hate to say it, goalkicking.
