So I've got a question.

It's quite clear that the Salary Cap investigation has cost us numerous quality players. And will affect our start to the season eg us again way under the cap.

If we're found not guilty or given a slap on the wrists. What can we as a club do about it ?

Look on the bright side - missing out on Carney means we are not at risk of exceeding our tattoo cap.

I can understand the board's feelings, the last thing we need after the last few years is any more bad publicity, and Carney will always carry some risk.

From Twitter it’s sounding like Carney will have to go down to see Greenslime to get approval , funny how Lodge who has done a lot worse didn’t ( the Donkey factor I’m guessing).

And we know that those two go wayyy back. I recall an interview of Greenberg’s on the radio just after he signed Des to the Dogs that he spoke to Wayno about the next coach for the Dogs and Wayne recommended that he go after Des as he will be the next super coach.

I really don’t mind if they give a bloke a chance or two, particularly when they are so young. I think what really pisses us off is the arbitrary manner of the decision making of who or who cannot return. It’s all over the shop and embarrassing.

In the case of Lodge, why couldn’t they at a minimum impose conditions such as you are to agree to reparations as instructed by the court and you will agree to a portion of your salary each month going toward repaying your obligations. At least then they can hold their heads up and say we are making a statement to the community that there is a price to pay for your indiscretions and you will openly comply with legal instructions.

The message that they are sending of you’re now welcome back and we are not interested in the trauma you have caused others is simply diabolical at best.

I actually don't mind them not letting Carney back...how many second chances has he squandered over the years? In the past, every time the NRL let him back in, fans were laughing because it was apparently his "last chance"...and no one believed the NRL would actually have the gumption to keep him out...

just because we were trying to signing him, all of the sudden we don't mind giving him multiple chances?! The same people laughing when he left Canberra, laughing when he left Roosters and laughing when he left Cronulla, are now interested in his welfare just because he might come to Manly? There's your double standards right there!

I want him back in the NRL irrespective of where he plays. On his best days he was a freak and would like to see if he still has some of it.
It seems that Baz was the only one "trying to sign him".

I don't think Carney deserves to be kept in exile, whether he plays for us or not. He did a dumb thing at Cronulla but any other player without his history would have had a slap on the wrists for that.

Pearce is being hailed as a hero in Newcastle but his faux pas was way worse than the bubbler.

I’ve also heard Kent & Rothfield have contacted the NRL separately asking about a Manly & Cowboys contract, both replies were unlikely. Word is something has happened overseas during his last contract. Kent was asked on NRL360 is he off the grog, Kent said no. Maybe intel stopped us at board level, the NRL must know something.
