  • An overwhelming success .. brilliant.

  • Very good

  • A pass mark

  • needs to be better

  • A failure

  • Needs to be sacked immediately ..

There has never been one rule since 1908 that coaches and players haven't within weeks gotten up to numbnuttery ... I am certain those at head office where not surprised .. but had to see how the most recent rorting and diving was going to manifest itself before taking action to counter it ..

Remember even the simple introduction of the 40/20 .. no biggee , simple ... but within weeks they had to impliment a rule that said the ballboy had to put the ball on the ground at the linesman's feet ... because teams were coaching their ballboys to throw the ball to their players on the run .. but to delay or have trouble finding a ball if it was the other team ..

Numbnuttery is as numbnuttery does
so the game should just resign itself to knee jerk reactions forever no matter the consequence, because of coaches.

Never learn from our mistakes because of coaches

silvertails is just a snapshot of the footy industry but its not well recieved here. In fact, you , paul kent and vlandys seem to be the only people not concerned that i have seen
No insult intended @Woodsie

The game has to be better, more professional than it has been and this is not an improvement . Like ive said previously inventing 15 new grades of crusher tackle to partner the head high rule has only compounded the fallout. Both are not new to the game. Poor planning and implementation has had the NRL playing god in the eyes of many of its customers, duty of care or not

Every man and his dog is sick of crackdowns based on a lethargic application of the rules by the admin. A smarter NRL, more in touch with its own game would should have realised they needed amore tactical approach to all the rules not just concussion

Inventing new crusher tackles with 2 in the bin has been stupidly arrogant

Looking at the judicial outcomes it seems the players, fans and clubs were not the only ones caught out by the new old rules. Regardless of the good intentions the fact the whole NRL are not aligned and on the same page has shown how poorly this was handled. and that is the test

Next years 2 new rules , referees abandon whistles As the whistle has long been associated with sexist innuendo toward women. REFS will be using a recoder. any player who doesnt play to the recorder immediately will get 10 in the bin for making the ref repeat himself. No one needs the recorder to be repetitive. Des has already sumbitted a proposal that a penalty will go to the tune of 3 blind mice

Interesting that the poll results are a nearly perfect bell curve. Considering we are still going through teething problems I think that's a points decision for V'landys. That or haters gonna hate and fanboys gonna fanboy.

At this stage of his is tenour he needs to do better. He did well during Corvid, getting rid of Slimeburg and cutting back the high exclusive expenses.
I thought he would be what we needed at the time and still think he may end up being very good but ......

Since then mid season major changes and crackdowns without warning changing the dynamic of the game without proper due process has led to unintended consequences, which to be fair may level out but are yet to,so can only vote in the now not what may come of it.

The changes have given ref's more control over the outcome of a game than ever before but hasn't improved the ref's accountability or process to get the big decisions consistent and right, so until he improves the performance of the ref's and consistencey of application, including bunker processes, he needs to do better specially if giving them more influence on outcomes.

The 6 again I am not a fan of, to inconsistent and unfair depending on field position and tackle number it is given, it may have been ok with a few changes to what was classed as 6 agains and where implemented but was rushed through without due process which may have improved the outcome of it.

A crackdown on deliberate or severe headshots and would go further for serious foul play needed to be done but again rushed through leading to over zealous implementing on love taps, where a more considered approach may have came with a better outcome.

It's coming across as arrogant and inclusive decision making with no consideration to fans or worse, players, just being told this is the way it is rather than being consulted.

By the end of his time he may well be very good only time will tell. Presently he needs to do better.

But none of what you suggest even begins to mitigate the only important issue that faces the entire game ... and that is that the ruling body not only appears to be exercising the appropriate level of duty of care but in fact is implementing the very rules and punishments that are necessary to avoid any negligence litigation ...

You can't be sued for accidents .. but you can be sued for not taking action to minimise them ... and you can be held responsible for delaying any action once you become aware of a danger ..

And there it is.

As we all know.

The NRL could not give 2 hoots about player safety, it's entirely about mitigation regarding pay-outs.

If it suited the paymasters at 9 and Fox, these blokes would run through minefields with giant magnets attached to their chest.

A bull**** crack-down, purely about saving $, with less concern about player welfare than ever.....as we can see with the ever increasing pace of the ruck, and fatigue factor.

Not true ... Silvertails and like forums are inhabited by a very small % of passionate fans ... not all with an active sense of perspective or emotional stability ... at best there are 50 regular posters on here, yet there are 10's of thousands of Manly fans .. in my immediate circle of family friends and acquaintances .. I know of no other Silvertail user ...

I would suggest Silvetails would be representative of the fanatics ... but not the great unwashed horde of League viewers ...

What possible difference does the "real" reason for the crackdown make ... if the game is under threat from litigation and social change ... the threat still has to be addressed ...

It's a good point you make.

The threat has to be addressed.

Touch footy it is then, because that is the only way accidental head knocks will effectively disappear.

Please ...
There you go @Woodsie... the NRL just needs to apply the rule as they did last night and we can move on without the grandstanding, contest ruining BS that we have had to witness in recent weeks...

Ref was great last night and players (all except Luai anyway) quickly realized that laying down got you nothing...

Plus a try was scored by playing on from the Feldt hit and now he will spend some time on the sideline too... great refereeing...

Only a $1600 fine, no games.
I believe.
Wow... seems head-high contact is fully endorsed by the NRL when it occurs in SOO...

So Murray does not return yet Feldt cops same punishment as NRL is spruiking for staging? This is quickly turning into a farce...

Lack of consistency is embarrassing... do they even care what they did to magic round? The powers that be should hang their heads and come out and admit that they have f*cked this whole thing up...

He’s a great administrator but he shouldn’t be the one tampering with the rules, the game was fine as it was for 100+ years, it was the officials fault for not using interpretations and being inconsistent.
They need to wind back the 6 agains to penalties again or just make 6 agains for ruck infringements. Bring back scrums. Don’t go back 2 sets of 6 for a minor discrepancy, if there’s illegal play the match review committee will pick it up..
So I think he needs to be better.
The owners of the entertainment would give him a 'outstanding success' vote for slipping in the '6 again TMC provision', however this must be rated a total 'failure' by any true afficionado of the game.

TMC is a TLA for 'Total Momentum Control'

Pssst, not much point in being 'The Powers That Shouldn't Be' if one cannot be blatantly inconsistent without embarrassment.......tis the way it has always been.

Yes, I have been saying for 2 weeks it would sort itself ...

But in saying that ... there were no real accidental, blatant or reckless headshots that needed adjudication (or lying down over) last night ... so I wouldn't be putting the glasses away yet ...

Cmon... the shot on Murray has been putting blokes in the bin for weeks... there were plenty of incidental contacts to the head that did not result in penalties last night - eg. Luai...

The NRL have ruined sooooo many games over the last few weeks and for what..? To simply move the goalposts at origin time undermines any justification for their unnecessary actions...

...and may ruin the game by exposing it to court action - or so they would have had us believe in recent times.... Vlandys and Abdo should hang their head in shame imo but I won't hold my breath...

You will see what you want to see ... I must of missed all the head shots you saw ..

But I will make you a bet ... if there are any swinging arms or shoulders to the head in SOO 2 & 3 I will put London to brick they are binned or OFF ...

It was Feldt shoulder that put Murray off FOR THE GAME last night! That is 10min every day for the last month!

I have always said intentional SHOULD be in the bin or off - but it ALWAYS has been... the 'crack down' has been nothing but a PR exercise at the expense of the game and last night proved that...
