The No-Look News (Schuster Chronicles)

No, I was more referring to other durable players like his brother.

It's a three man team, if we are only supporting blokes that never get injured....and two of them disappear mid season for SOO duties.

I think I know what @ALinda is getting at, personally I like our stars who are injured, but week to week I cheer for the blokes who are actually on the field, including the unfashionables such as Parks and Recreation (that's Harper lol) Croker and no-names like DeLuis. I'd even cheer for Boyle if he got a go!

Just seems inevitable that most clubs experience some serious injury issues at different stages and could be wrong but the Storm seem to fare better then most for some reason . Some players also just seem more prone then others for whatever reason so just have to accept that reality as difficult as it may be with the loss or unavailability of key players in particular sometimes . Can think of quite a few players also who seem to shake off their injury prone tendencies eventually . As far as Manly are concerned , just have to hope i guess that the footy Gods smile more favorably on Manly then not and on a regular basis , including our own Silver tails . Maybe a 6 man bench eventually to reduce on field susceptibility but not sure that would alleviate the problem that significantly .

I think the storm do a few things in particular

They defend rather than tackle, holding players up, then lowering to the ground. Not as much collision and down they go on there terms

They kick consistently gaining ground by avoiding collisions, and playing the game down the other end and they do it from the start of there game each week so there rarely need to dig themselves out of a hole , and always have a happy share of posession That is also in the refs hands i admit

these tactics keep them a bit fresher and there are so many studies that show more injuries happen under fatigue. And they have some sides beat before they take the field

Manlys game is opposite, old school, shoulder impact defence, play footy before we have the right to , so defence in our faces

Just my thoughts

I guess the other way of looking at it Al, is that we haven’t lost any players to season ending injuries, which is happening at a lot of clubs, so from that perspective we aren’t that badly off. Kind of looks worse because we have 2 guns sidelined at the same time, and a prop that was carting us forward at last.

True @manly al - I don’t think Melbourne play a lot of young blokes as a rule. Only pappy, he is pretty young and has been injured a lot.
I agree - they usually get in 2nd or 3rd year "rookies" after they've proved themselves elsewhere & before their price tag increases too much (e.g Reimis Smith, Josh King) or gradually blood young, inexperienced players by giving them 10 minutes off the bench at the end of a game every few games before giving them more time on the field (e g. Wishart's young bloke).

I think the Storm get their fair share of injuries but because they keep winning regardless, it can seem like they don’t.

Have all had injury troubles in the last couple of seasons.

It is similar to Des not throwing rookies out there for too long.

From what I heard in the call, Josh was enterprising and involved. Sure, he may have been short on match-fitness, but I admire his tenacity.

I'm really glad to see him back in the fold, and he will be a game-breaker later on in the season as his confidence and match fitness return.
