The No-Look News (Schuster Chronicles)

That was then ans this is now.
The same one that will not take us to anymore premierships if he continued to play for Manly. He is at his ceiling as far as performance goes.

Schuster can and will only get better.

Now ... is the fact that a 73 year old Foran held together by duct tape, super glue and pure guts is week in week out giving a masterclass on commitment and effort ...

Now .. is Davey a geriatric nobody with a handful of NRL games is showing what hard work and desire can produce ...

Schuster may well be the future superstar you want him to be ... but if he can't see off the challenges from those 2 age pensioners ... then he simply is not yet ready to wear the laurel head piece ..

Totally agree - he has no idea on professionalism if he is still overweight as per his own statement on a recent interview.... As I have said he was great last year in that backrow spot but so far in virtually every appearance this year bar none he has been slow, mistake riddled and totally underwhelming not to mention he has a sense of entitlement. He does not suggest to me is is all in and is totally committed to the team. Because if he was all in he would be doing the extra work required to get super fit or at least get fit enough to perform at a great level each week ala Cliffy. The excuses I hear about his offseason being affected by injury and then Des not playing him meant he ended up kg's overweight is a total nonsense. Park footballers by this time of the year if their weight was up would be doing extra work - road runs, hill work, sprints, swimming - something to shed the kilos... these guys for goodness sakes have all the high tech equipment, personal training plans developed etc etc... there simply is no excuse unless he is injured. However given in that recent interview he never said he was injured just overweight - we can forget an injury being the excuse. He is a super talent but he is relying on the talent instead of the hard work. That is a huge huge worry in my books. To me IF he is our 5/8 in waiting I am extremely concerned. I hope he turns out to be one of Manly's all time greats but.... would anyone imagine Igor saying oh sorry I am overweight I was injured..... I remember the great man after a knee injury running up and down the grandstand stairs at Brooky to get strength back into the knee and to get his fitness back. That is what all in players do... like Davey and Foran.... the uber talented Fifita types and Schu is sounding like Fifita always have an excuse and never ever quite deliver.

I will just put this out here: what if Schuster is not the 5-8 that Manly needs next year.... but The Frog actually is?

I think our narrative over the last ten years has been that we have an outstanding eyes-up scheming half-back, the best such of his generation, and we have tried mostly unsuccessfully to find an "organising", structuring 5-8 who can complement D C E's style (curse you autocorrect). To his credit DCE has tried hard to solve it by reinventing himself as an organising half, but it is not his natural style.

TBH I think Schuster is even more of an eyes-up half-back than DCE, to me he is generally playing against the 2 or 3 guys right in front of him.

We know Croker came through as a 5-8, is a very hard defensive worker, kicks long, is not afraid to straighten up the attack, can see and pick his runners. If Fainu does come back, maybe we have a new option?

There seems to be a few different people on this forum hinting at schu possibly not being here next season.... wondering if it's fact or fiction for anyone in the know?

Think it’s more a case of media bash up when we are down. The club have accommodated him and letting go of a top shelf half to give him the position he wants. He is under contract and without a back up plan for the 6 jersey highly unlikely there is any truth to it.

Schuster will be ready in 2023 and beyond .He just got to listen to the people that are behind him when he is down on form . Bring on 2023 .
Schusters main challenges to realise his incredible potential are more internal than external. Right now he is too unfit and definitely too overweight to be playing first grade as a five-eight.

He may be one of the most gifted footballers of his cohort, but this talent won't be enough by itself. His fitness level, stamina and body shape are his responsibility, not anybody else's.

He has to find that fortitude within, and then work really hard on himself to maintain those levels throughout the whole season. I really hope that he does, but it will be changes to his internal voice and subsequent behaviours, that will take him to the next level, or not.

He has all the gifts to be a champion footballer, but does he have the work ethic to go with those gifts? Let's hope he does.

You can just say he's fat and although nothing from the horses mouth himself, you could argue the noise coming from his camp is representative of an entitled attitude as his* argument was that he had been promised the 6, did he earn it though? Premierships aren't won on promises, not those kind anyway.

You don't have to be nice about it. I've heard players call each other way worse things, image what they call us armchair immortals?

*Commentary and media speculation, big citation needed.

There were issue with Schuster/his manager, not so long ago, well before this weeks dramas and whilst the team was winning. Not sure it’ll lead to him leaving but they have a big issue with Des and if he does stay,I suspect the club will have problems with Schuster every time contract year rolls around

In an interview two weeks ago ... he admitted he was overweight and has extra kilos on board!

Des is right not to play shoe in the second row, I see Ben and Bullemore as better options. The year is nearly over and Foran will be gone, then Schuster will get his chance at 5/8.

There is no point in playing schuster out of position if he wants to be a 5/8 but with our season on the line you leave Foran where he is. If there is a few games left and the season is over then start schuster at 5/8 and leave him there for experience.

Hopefully IQ, your comments are correct. However if that is the case, why not put him at 5/8 at Blacktown to hone his skills

IMO the team is significantly weaker if Croker is a starting halves option.

If Schuster doesn't come good (and he needs a full off season and a good run of games) then Weekes...Humphries or go to market for a backup half
