As if the titans "offer" is not being used as leverage from his agent

What a good way to get the clubs supporters talking etc

It's almost 10am ( well down your neck of the woods ) and all we have is a 3 million offer on the table for DCE from the Titans.

Ho hum another day in Manly paradise
It must be galling for all other clubs to see how much publicity Manly is getting in the media these days. We are the talk of the NRL. Every club wants to be like Manly and so they are being forced to pay overs for our players. Keep it up managers of Foz and Cherry! You are doing a marvelous job in keeping our name on the front and back pages, boosting membership numbers.
Oh how the membership managers from other clubs would like to have such in-demand players as us.

How I read the article was that both DCE and Foran offered same ie 1m next year, 1.1m then 1.2m. That is the 6.6m offer over 3 years. If that is the case then if other Clubs can offer enough above this for them to move so be it.

According to the Lurker today, Manly are throwing massive (in excess of 1 million) dollars at Foran and DCE. See here: http://www.sportal.com.au/league/nr...ur-file---wednesday/i4tvk8c4vp0p1xdp93rwku6gu

It's great to fight fire with fire but these are crazy amounts of money and I can't see how it's worth it.
Ha, just read that too. The numbers work because over the course of the deal, our remaining older players on bigger money come off contracts. There should also be a new TV deal in place that may further increase the cap. The way the club is positioned at the moment, with the young backs and forwards on lesser deals, this is the perfect time to offer a deal like this. The problem will be in 3 years time - then we will really need either some young gun halves that are ready to go, or we will reach a breaking point in keeping the halves or topping up the younger guys...

If that is correct those figures and 1 or both leave questions have 2 be asked why? They are not going 2 get much more at any other clubs so why would they leave?

Nah just stirring the pot.

Can't wait for this Wednesday though as it is supposedly the day Foran announces he has signed with the eels according to the parra fan website.

I'll be absolutely gutted if an unsubstantiated rumour on a RL forum turns out to be exactly that. 10.5 hours and counting

And you'd think the media would know by now if a press conference has been called for today and if so then they would likely have sent further rumours into overdrive.

Off-contract Kieran Foran targeted as face of second New Zealand NRL franchise

BRAD WALTER

Off-contract Manly star Kieran Foran has been encouraged not to commit beyond 2017 when he decides his future as backers of a second New Zealand franchise want to make him the highest paid player in the game.

Foran, who is the Kiwis vice-captain, has been linked with a return home to join the Warriors next season but the bid team pushing for a second New Zealand side to join the NRL in 2018 have identified him as their No 1 recruitment target and inaugural captain.

"Our aim is to build a very competitive club, which will make New Zealand and all stakeholders of the NRL proud", bid team spokesman Robert Picone said.

"A proud Kiwi and a great player like Kieran Foran is a player who you can build a club around and help stamp a terrific culture for the future.

"If Kieran is free at the end of 2017, we will have a contract waiting for him for the 2018 season and beyond and it would be great to have him as the club's first skipper."

The decision to target Foran as the face of the franchise clearly signals the bid's intentions and sources also indicated that if the Sea Eagles five-eighth was to cross the Tasman in 2018 he would be the highest paid player in the game.

Picone said the club's aim would be to provide a long term pathway for the enormous young talent in New Zealand, who comprise about 20 percent of NRL players.

With the admission of a second New Zealand team, those numbers are expected to grow substantially as the new club provides an alternate pathway for Kiwi players.

While NRL officials are careful not to fuel speculation about expansion, the process to determine whether new teams should be admitted to the competition has been underway for some time and will step up after Shane Richardson begins his role as head of strategy next month.

Perth and a second Brisbane team are favourites for inclusion but there is growing support for a second New Zealand team to take advantage of the enormous depth of Kiwi playing talent and create a rivalry with the Warriors.

Since publicly unveiling their campaign for a second New Zealand franchise last November, the bid team has joined forces with the Wellington Rugby League and Christchurch-based Celebration Lions Trust in moves should ensure the new side capitalises on the rivalry between Auckland and the rest of the country.

I like how they keep saying "bring him home" as though he spent his whole life in NZ, he has spent more of his life in Australia. It's a kin to saying Matilda will want to go back to Hervey Bay because that is where she was born, spin doctors

Don't forget the Western Australian team coming in with all that resource sector money. Foz will be on about $10M when all is said and done. Good for his family. They'll finally be off struggle street

I reckon the Wyong Roos are a big chance. After all they've got Blake Ferguson and vision on fuking ch nein.

Foran and DCE could both be playing chicken with each other, both not wanting to leave the Northern Beaches and hoping one signs with another club allowing a bigger contract to be offered by Manly for the sole survivor.

I don't think this is the case but not all the reasons of not signing have to be due to negative reasons.

On a personal note i think Tooves has done a good job especially improving upon elements of our attack but still don't think he has that "Aura" about him that attracts players beyond a football sense to the place.(diminutive people tend to struggle even in the corporate world of being taken as seriously or respected even if they technically have all the goods to lead)

I also feel he "was" on the right path streamlining the size of our forwards with less "fat" but due to salary cap restraints and lower grade depth we did not have the "right mix" of size in our pack to compete with the bigger packs when it counted.

Yes I reckon they are playing chicken, and the longer they do that the more one gets offered and the less the other gets to stay ( and then probably doesn't ).

Or one jumps the gun signing with someone else leaving more room for Manly to compete against the rest of the clubs wanting the remaining half/5/8.

Seriously though why bother even signing, they have both proved their worth and value to a team just play the entire season and sign at the end.

It is not like their value is going to go backwards like a new flash player who is over-rated due to a few good performances and wants to cash in on real fast before reality strikes. I guess locking in a long term contract early just in case a bad injury that ends your career or hampers future value is one reason but not as likely for a half or 5/8 though.
