Gutho prefers fullback where does that leave tom t.Centre maybe.
I don’t want Gutho playing fullback instead of Tom and if he isn’t prepared to play five eight then I’d wish him all the best. Gutho is a very good player but Turbo is dynamite at fullback - we all saw how lethal he was in the time he was on the park this year.

In my view the team overall is weakened if Gutho is fullback and Tom is in the centres as opposed to Tom remaining at fullback in Gutho at five eight or in the centres.

Gutho is a reforged 5/8 from a fullback/centre. Tough but not really class.
But...….he was and still is a Manly man. Perhaps Des wants Manly (like he always was) over positional prowess?

Anyway someone eluded a while back, and I cant remember who, that perhaps centre is now "not as important" as it was? Maybe Des is ahead of the pack with 2 cheap centres?

The thing about centres is they don’t create points like they used to. When the game was less structured and rapid, there was more space on The edges for players with ability to create something with a display of brilliance (Gasnier for example). The modern game is so fast and defence is so well drilled, there is less room, rendering the centre a link man on the edge. Sure, the better they are, the more likely they are to take advantage of situations, but the bulk of the creativity comes from closer in field, hence the higher premium placed on other positions.

We saw with Fainu yesterday, DCE the last few weeks and of course the second phase from our big men; that’s where our points come from.

100% agree. Seriously, when he's playing Tom is the best fullback not only in the NRL but in rugby league right now, and that includes players like Tedesco and Gutherson. Its only because his speed and skill means that he can also play wing and centre while Tedesco is a specialist fullback that he plays those positions in rep footy.

The mad professor is probably planning to revolutionise game strategy by playing 2 fullbacks and one halfback!

IMHO Tom's best chances ,barring injury to Teddy & later down the track Ponga, will be Centre for NSW & Australia.
Even though I think he is better than both.
Unfortunately it looks like Dylan's days are numbered, if we are in fact chasing Gutho. I don't believe half the rubbish these "Journos" write these days, as they just throw anything out there to get attention!

Also Koroisau is linked to the Tigers so if he was to get released early and tigers pickup majority of the bill we could possibly keep Walker. But with all baggage Walker has I can't see the club keeping him but I could be wrong..

Had a funny conversation over the weekend about Gutho - when Brad Arthur went to Parra the two Manly up and comers he apparently rated the most highly were Gutho and Hiku. They couldn't sign him quick enough when Manly decided to shop him not long after we extended his contract.

And yes apparently we are deep in negotiations to get him back, but Parra are pretty keen to hang onto him as well.

What is with all this Turbo is better then Gutho so we can only have one crap. FMD.

Next you lot will be wanting one of Marty and AFB gone because one is so called "better".

Put the Manly boy back in Maroon and White and let the kid weave his magic where he belongs, in what ever position the coach says the TEAM need him to play.

Clear-headed logic wins out every time.

One moment we apparently have a ‘lack of depth’. Seven weeks later, we might have to offload some key players who have helped to disprove the ‘lack of depth’ theory. Presumably so we can go back to suffering from a ‘lack of depth’.

There is no bringing him back 'just because he is Manly' IMO. There needs to be a definite position/structure in mind, and it needs to be at the right price. At this stage of the year, after seeing the improvement in some of the team for this year, B Parker, Elgey, etc., I am not sure that we need him on the coin that is being bandied about.

Clint Gutherson could leave Parramatta to return to Manly Sea Eagles

Staff writers - FOX APRIL 29, 20198:10PM

Paul Kent says Clint Gutherson will be offered a deal to return to where his NRL career began at Manly, after months of contract uncertainty at Parramatta.

Clint Gutherson will be offered a deal to return to where his NRL career began at Manly.

NRL 360 co-host Paul Kent broke the news on Monday night the Sea Eagles are likely preparing to table an offer to the Parramatta captain and fullback.

Gutherson took himself to the open market after knocking back the latest offer from the Eels, who many believe have erred in stalling on re-signing the likeable star.

The Eels have as many as 19 players off contract, as well as coach Brad Arthur, which includes captain Gutherson and halfback Mitchell Moses.

The club has reportedly offered Gutherson a number of deals but they have all been knocked back by his manager Sam Ayoub.

Well, you can't get more solid than reporting things like "are likely"!

Possibly sometime in the future Manly are possibly considering making an in principle offer maybe to some Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I used to think it'd be good to be able to re-trace the info. Because why would Manly make this public? Why would Parramatta?

But I believe it's one of two things. 1) Kent is just making it up. 2) Gutho's manager has asked Kent to report this to get more money for gutho and to keep the Quid Pro Quo going.

I’d let him name his price just to piss parra off

But seriously, it would be madness not to have a crack at him, he is a player with game breaking abilities that can cover multiple positions and cover all those positions well

I don’t think Tom T has had a season yet where he has gotten through the majority of games, pretty good option to slide Gutherson back there while he is out. Centre goes down mid match and we slide him out there, rather than chucking a 2nd rower in there to do a job. All positions that we are low on depth so his versatility adds extra depth to the squad to the point that you have Elliott/Parker/Suli potentially being our depth men rather than having 1 or 2 of them starting every week

I would be shocked if he leaves Parra. I assume alot of this is trying to up the contract price. Gutho is high quality player plus , appears a high quality person. In my opinion should add to his contract value. Eg Walker should really be valued at no more than $150,000 a year.
