I think that these two halves are grown men with their own decision making powers and they decidedl not to play for Manly. A culmination of circumstances has resulted in this but in the end two young men are going to earn sh*t loads of money at other clubs. Foran in particular absolutely chose to leave. I'm fine with the dream of a DCE backflip but what I'm really hoping for is a couple of halves and perhaps a whole team who actually want to play for Manly.
Too many egos and a lack of unity atm from the young players right up to the old administrators.
Time for many at Manly to stop w*nking, resolve petty differences and move on.
 
i would be absolutely staggered if he decided to stay. His reputation would be trashed, imagine what the other players would think of him. They would trot out the usual lines, but i bet behind closed doors they would be saying something different. Elgey/Myles and Bird, would be happy with that for a start.

He won't be the first player and certainly while this rule is in place the last to backflip.
Most of the time these backflips have occurred, it happened with the said player or original club saying , the player has changed his mind and staying where he is.
Unfortunately for DCE and Manly some big mouth so and so ???? Zorba has leaked this potential backflip to the media before it could be finalised . This now puts all this pressure on DCE by the media to honour his contract with The Titans . He is however, perfectly within his rights to change his mind as many others have in the past.

I agree with Brooke. If this wasn't leaked, we may have had a chance to keep DCE. I know others don't like the idea, but i think he is still the best option. Wish Zorba would piss off to Souths or Roosters.
 
Our club's management are obviously as out of their depth as our current forward pack. If we don't manage to attract some quality forwards and halves soon, we will be really stuffed because I can only see Jake T developing into the kind of forward that we need. We can't even extend them and that is scary. All whilst Parra is signing everyone around them they just signed the NSW second row and the NZ half back for next year. How much was Jarryd Hayne on that they can afford these three with the money from him??

I actually think that Penn's are tight arses and don't want to spend big money on players, they are treating it like a business and trying to be thrifty with signing players but they are forgetting that if you pay peanuts in this game you get donkeys not monkeys. until we sign some serious big names we will be the club that nobody will go near. **** me how did we get to this point?????? Im so cut about this club right now. **** heads

Yeah, we need a guy like Myles leading our pack. I wouldn't mind a guy like Marty Taupou and Manu Maú as well
 
I don't think that DCE has ever actually wanted to leave but has been naive in the advise /strategy that he has received, mainly that Orr has tried to use the auction at the start of the season to get us to increase the amount offered. Kelly pulling the contract has thrown a huge spanner in the works leading to the panic. I think that it is pretty obvious that DCE wants to stay, the statement earlier today was very non commital and was mainly used to put a stop to the invasion of his families lives. All said and done though I think that unfortunately it has now got to the point that both Manly and DCE would both lose to much face in the public eye to change their respective positions.

I realistically see us losing big time out of this and not securing; DCE, Elgey, Myles or Bird - there is so much heat on this story and it is continually being fuelled that I can't see players from the GC wanting to come here, especially Elgey, afterall he is going to be compared to DCE within the press, whereas he can play in the GC or another club and not get any of the additional crap that our fine media outlets spout.
 
The rules of the game are that Daly's Titans contract is not a real contract yet.

The Titans are committed. Daly is not. It is irrelevant whether any of us thinks that's stupid, or unfair, or dishonourable. That's fact. That's the rules of the NRL game.

So Manly is in a potentially strong position when it comes to negotiating now with the likes of Daly, Myles, Elgey, & Bird. It may all work out just fine.
 
Honestly who cares? Im bitter because were useless, but I dont want him to stay hes a ****witt. Get Elgy and be done with these 2 muppets and lets start again.
 
^ Have to agree with ssteacup - this ongoing saga is doing nothing for the club or the team. Cherry chose to leave, Foran chose to leave. They're done and we need to move on. Be nice if we had something to look forward to but thanks to our less than dynamic recruitment "strategy" (if scrambling to snap up whoever the hell you can get is a strategy) we don't. Which only leaves us with what we've got right now: a godawful mess.
And yeah, Cherry is entitled to "backflip", just as the club is entitled to try to get him to do so. It doesn't make him "dishonourable" or sneaky or anything else. It's happened before and as long as it's in the rules it'll happen again. But he - and Manly as a club - will be crucified if he does. The heat is already on. It's a terrible amount of pressure and I feel sorry for the bloke but he lost me as a fan when this whole circus started.
 
We should now target Elgey,Myles, Bird, James and Roberts form the Titans as well as Parra players such as Moeroa and Pauli Pauli.

Even if we cannot sign these players we should at least make these clubs pay heaps more to retain them

The bulk being Matai and Snake who would be better of concentrating on football rather than others contracts.

Watmough is gone Foran is gone and for the clean (of the bitter agitators) out to be completed Matai and Snake should go along with DCE.

We have to be careful that we don't start to think that just any signing is great news, the club still has to be very selective on who they go for from here. I'm not saying players like Myles and Bird aren't quality I'm saying we have to take in to account players ages as well as experience or else in 3 years time we will continue to have an ageing roster of players who may not be as keen because they've already been there and done that.
