No doubt DCE played great last week. Problem is he only does that about 5 times a year. Anyway same argument that’s been going on since 2015.

I, along with others have stated many times we won’t win another premiership with him as our Captain and on this money. Nothing has changed my mind in those 7 years. And only a premiership will justify his ridiculous contract.

And yes he won a premiership, I know fanboy’s I know! But guess what? That was in a golden generation team, and he WAS a rookie. That also means we could, wait for it, win another premiership with a rookie. Ohhh Shiiit

The delicate issue with those stats is how much of it depended on tom to break the game openbefore he appears His stats without tom are horrible.

Yes he needs help but until we judge DCE as a halfback whose job it is to get us moving, its not realistic. To. Should be feeding off him , not the other way around

His stats paint a picture for sure, but there not as compelling as they read. Surely thats a given

As stated the comments I was responding to were that he was afraid to take on the line and that he goes nowhere and creates nothing.....both hyperbole IMO and I think the data backs that up.

As for the re-signing as a whole, I generally think its the right call but like all signings comes with risk. In a perfect world I would have extended for a year and gone year to year.

I think the most likely scenario is Foran goes 1 more season tops. That would make Humphrys circa 21 and Latu what 18?

Humphrys I've been impressed with when I've seen him but in my view he hasnt stood out, he is certainly no B Stewart, Turbo, Will Hoppa, Schuster, even Gutho or dare I say DCE coming through the grades. He isnt a L Fainu or Feledy even.
Could he become a star, absolutely, is it a fait accompli? No
Now we run the risk of losing him and him kicking on but we would also run a significant risk of giving the keys to the kingdom to a 21-18 oldish halves pairing which could destroy two promising careers.

Basically I see an experienced quality half, who sure has some flaws but whose net positive far outweighs the negative. I assume he will be on around 800k and will be great to have alongside some young boom halves when their form warrants selection.

I have been a DCE fan since 2011 and whilst I consider him a great half back who is an elite athlete and one of the best half backs to play for Manly he really has not been a consistently good game manager. Yes he produces some great games but he often makes very poor options under pressure against the top sides when time and momentum are taken away from him. What concerns me is that if your don't develop your young stars and give them opportunities you loose them. I reckon we will loose Schuster if Foran is extended and what will that do for us long term, no good at all. DCE signing will no doubt result in any young half back with talent (Humphries) looking elsewhere for opportunities. Nobody will want to wait for 3 years as windows of opportunity aren't open for long. We will end up like the Tigers if we don't get our retention and recruitment right. You need heir apparents otherwise we will come that the same place again when we were desperate for a five eight to partner DCE before Foran came back and before Schuster was ready. All careers come to an end and you need to realistically plan for them focusing on the long term ramifications of decisions made.

Skme Good points however no one knows how Nicho or any of the up and coming halves will pan out long term. also Ilias could be a dud. So many young halves burst onto the scene only to be burned out by season 3 or 4.
DCE may not be everyone first choice but over 10 years he has been one of the better ones.

Interesting comments on Hynes by Fitzy on 360 yesterday acknowledging their punt on him was a risk. Sharks have had a good start but we’ve seen plenty of April and March premiers. I’ve never seen Hynes as a 7 personally more a utility/fb who’s played in a very successful side for quite a while. Good start but jury is still out in nicho for mine.

Not quite sure what you mean, but nsw have the luxury of everyone performing there role and turbos role , not impact , is no where near the same as a centre , winger and squad member

Did you watch the post match presser? He absolutely would pay the freight for DCE. If DCE extends at $800k a season I reckon Stick would jump on him at that price if available even for 2yrs.

• Daly has been Cam Smith level in terms of durability so he is going to be fine at 35-36.
• he is a half that needs the pack to go forward to be successful. Name a half that doesn’t?
• he is terrible when the chips are down and lacks the composure to dig us out of a hole...however premierships aren’t won by teams when the chips are down...

So...

We can win another comp with Daly at 7 but the pack must improve and/or we buy some forwards. The pack is the main reason for our inconsistencies and inability to challenge the best sides, not Daly.

good prospects. How do you see the combo. all of those players seem loaded with the same style of skillset as dce. to improve we need to add some other skills in the side like composure, game management and decision making.

getting an attacking half is relatively simple, having one that keeps you in the arm wrestle until your moment arises seems to be the difference. DCE has some of the best kicks in the game but a kicking games such as he displayed last week are few and far between. to acquire the skills for the team the logical step is that DCE takes on that role considering everything and thats the bit that goes missing all to often. so we battle on without until ........

its how the puzzle fits now and next year as much as anything unless we really are going the 5 year plan , starting from ...................
foran will stay another year and runs his side like a well oiled machine and we are really short on hookers

1. DCE has been consistent and quality for his whole contract. Has he been the BEST 7 every year? No. Has he been in the top 3/5 every year. YES. He represents value, and consistency.
2. We weren't winning a comp in any recent season, regardless of our number 7. How can we blame him when we have a multitude of other sins (including former crappy coaches)
3. DCE is EXACTLY the kind of person I would love my kids to idolise. A well spoken, articulate family man and a relative clean skin. He took over the mantle from Kingie perfectly.
4. He is a future coach of our team. He will deviver success I am convinced. Why would we chuck him out now, when he had one of his best ever games, appears to be fully fit, and could be invovled with our clib for another 20 years?
5. If he was good enough for BOZO, he's good enough for me.
6. I can't stand di^kheads. Most of the blokes who would replace him are di^kheads and have no place in a Manly jersey.
7. The team appears happy. The Turbos clearly like him. Why jeaopardise that?
8. The comp is designed to be even, and the NRL would love no team to dominate for long. In their eyes, every team should win a comp once every 20 years or so. People seem to orget that only 1 teams wins the comp. But our players and team play 25-30 times a year. Enjoy and celebrate the victories, not just the elusive premiership.

Well summed up in those 9 points. Some around here think Premierships are simple to win and get handed out like candy. Fact is they’re not, and with DCE staying I think it keeps the longevity going and out premiership window open even longer.
