Its becoming more and more apparent to me that DCE's main enemy in the QLD mafia was one Cam Smith. This guy has always been seen as the clever manipulator, creating that popular façade of esteemed eminence, but its obvious that he wants it all his own way. Just look at the fall out with Cronk and Slater. I consider Smith one of the best players I've seen in the game, but I also consider him an arrogant manipulative bully. As said, he wants it all his own way and DCE, who is bright and assertive, was that challenge to Smith's empire, and we cant have that. I realise that often if you want to be king, you have to ensure others know their status. I suspect one of the issues with DCE is that he is his own man and didn't genuflect to the Almighty Master. DCE threatened his realm and he needed to be sent back to the servants quarters and learn his place in the order of things. But DCE also wants to be king...lets hope that aspiration doesn't make him the arrogant but very talented pr..k Smith has become
100% agree.
I also like learning new words. Genuflect. So if I used it in this context, " You're my wife, and you should genuflect to me on my arrival home"......how will that go for me?

There is one now retired old Qld player who doesn't seem to mind Daly. He posted this about 45 minutes ago on Facebook. I think we know this man 😉

Manly star says Cherry-Evans has a great Origin opportunity

SEA Eagles forward Joel Thompson says tonight’s third State of Origin game at Suncorp Stadium is the opportunity for his skipper Daly Cherry-Evans to shut up his critics.

The spotlight will be well and truly focused on the Manly halfback who has finally been recalled to the Queensland side following a three-year absence after the Maroons lost the two opening games of the series.

NRL veteran Thompson has spoken out passionately in support of Cherry-Evans ahead of his huge game.

Asked how Cherry-Evans would cope with the intense pressure tonight Thompson said: “He just needs to handle it, he just needs to do it, he needs to grab it and shut everyone up because he gets bagged so much.

“And all these people are putting comments about him who don’t really know him.

“He’s actually a good guy and I don’t understand how he cops so much, I’ve never seen anything like it.

“And you have ex-players that are coming at him for doing things.”

Former Manly star Anthony Watmough recently launched an extraordinary attack on Cherry-Evans labelling him a “f…..wit.”

“He’s (Cherry-Evans) a footballer, we are in a business, we are in a cutthroat business, he has to do the best thing for him and his family whatever that was,” Thompson said. “I can’t understand some of the criticism that he does cop.”

He believes Cherry-Evans will handle the heat tonight.

“That is the sort of stuff you want as a player, you want this pressure, you want to silence people and just go ‘you know that’s what I’ve done, shut up now’,” he said.

“I’d look at it as a challenge and show people what you can do.”

For DCE, years of disquiet and rumour could be undone in 80 minutes

If you believe in omens, there may be a decent night ahead for Queensland's returning Origin contingent.

Just moments after running onto Suncorp Stadium for their final training session on Tuesday morning, Corey Oates casually sent a 40-metre, one-handed, quarterback lob hurtling towards the the goal posts.

It sailed through the air in a perfect spiral, descended like a laser-guided missile and clattered right off the black dot on the crossbar. Bullseye.

Injury to Greg Inglis has helped his cause but Oates has won a deserved recall to the Queensland ranks. Now, his job is to prove he simply has to be in the 17 somewhere going forward, even as a middle or edge option from the bench.

Yet his comeback has been consumed whole by that of teammate Daly Cherry-Evans, who has given game three a welcome storyline as he tries to not only mastermind a victory over the Blues but harpoon a suite of misconceptions about his relationship with the Maroons and the state as a whole.

Already, it's been suggested that Cherry-Evans has been on a 'charm offensive' during the camp but none of his utterings have appeared to be the least bit contrived. On the contrary, media could scarcely wish for a more open and honest interview subject.

The players, too, have quickly backed him in the public eye, as has coach Kevin Walters, who has been impressed by the way the Manly playmaker has taken the lead in training during the past week.

On the eve of the match, Walters used a word that has been tossed around more than once this week when referring to Cherry-Evans: "Maturity."

"He's a great ball runner and a good organiser. He's a good defender as well. His last opportunity at this level in 2015 he brought an injured shoulder into the game. That was part of his process and he's a lot more mature now," Walters said.

"We just want him to do what he's done every week for Manly. I'm excited for him that he's got his opportunity. He's a lot more mature as a footballer and we'll see that maturity in his game."

Cherry-Evans has also been clouded by the strange notion that he may end up getting booed by his own crowd when he runs onto Suncorp Stadium. It's a mythology that still has legs in NSW, stemming from his about-face during his dealings with the Gold Coast Titans in 2015.

He was slammed at the time, most memorably on the front page of the Gold Coast Bulletin when he was branded a 'filthy cockroach'. Ouch. But that was years ago and what aggravated the small Titans fan base didn't necessarily infuriate the state en masse.

Those feuds are best left in clubland and Cherry-Evans has found time to be a good cure for ills of the past. And if he thought that was effective, wait until he sees what playing a leading role in a home Origin victory does for his reputation.

'Loyalty' is the most overused word in Origin, particularly from Queensland, who have been lucky enough to be loyal to players like Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Greg Inglis, Johnathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk, Matt Scott ... you get the idea.

What really matters is winning and Cherry-Evans stands to be the beneficiary of that should he be able to take charge of an under-strength Queensland side and help them avoid the dreaded whitewash.

Unpopular? Try banging over a field goal in golden point. Don't get on with your fellow Maroons? Oh look, I just scored under the posts to win the match with 30 seconds left to play.

Nothing succeeds like success, as they say, although Cherry-Evans must find a way to deal with a NSW side that would love nothing more than to inflict the humiliation of a clean sweep, then raise the shield to what would presumably be banks of empty seats.

Brad Fittler will know the responsibility that has been put of Cherry-Evans' shoulders and urge his players to do everything they can to make sure he's as unsettled as possible. Cameron Munster, who has had a flat series by his standards, must also play his part in alleviating the pressure.

Ultimately, Cherry-Evans should remember that great truism in sport; winning solves pretty much everything. Should he rewrite his legacy on Wednesday night, he would go from pariah to paladin, taking 80 minutes to erase three years of innuendo.
