[Resurrected] Taupau being shopped?

I really like Marty as a personality...his football has gone backwards and it makes me sad, more so than angry. Physically he seems in good enough condition to still be a force...it just looks like he isn’t as motivated as he used to be. I can see him being a decent bench prop for another club. I think he just needs a new lease on life.

I agree but I just don't get why he isn't as motivated when he supposedly hasn't a club for 2023. I think it's a mental thing that his football's gone backwards - he hasn't been the same since his previous concussions and he fears for his long term future.
Perhaps his lack of motivation is because he's going to retire, which wouldn't surprise me. He's clever enough to not want to risk his health anymore and to successfully make a life for himself and his family after footy. We shall see...

He used to really throw himself into every aspect of the game, now he seems to play with much less intensity. He’s always had a costly error in his game but at his best, he was great entertainment and I’ll always love him for his contributions to our club.

I agree with what you say and the other part that comes into it for me is he’ll be 33 next year and the modern game is a young mans sport, Marty could play on but being honest his best is well behind him and the future will become a tuff physical grind, without much reward, as you mentioned he is smart enough to make a decent living without relying on footy. Good luck in the future.

I remember when we first signed him, I thought how good, seeing him pump iron in the tigers sheds at half time was something I still remember, it’s just sad that he hasn’t been able to lead us into and win a GF during his time at the club. I guess his not the first and won’t be the last to play out a career without taking out the ultimate prize.

I actually thought the Saints game was one of his better games of late. But well down on the Marty from 3 or 4yrs ago.

Agree with this so much

Not sure (and @niccipops pointed it out in other places) when this place went from legitimate criticism to name calling.

Players have been called cancers, tools and a number of other things…I just never see the point of it.

Does Marty play some dumb footy at times? Yes. Does that make him a tool? No
I could have called him much worse.

I did to start with, then toned it down.

Or even behaviour.

Isz - the last three letters of your surname?
I would suggest there is a fair difference between me saying that calling people names is not on. Again all for questions about Marty's tendency to push a risky pass etc I do not think it is something that I would call someone a "tool" over. As for lsz there is more to it but that is one for another day.

I posted the same a while ago about Marty. Not the same player since his suspensions & concussion. His offloads were a trademark of his a number of years ago….today you barely see one & more often than not it goes to ground. It’s sad & disappointing coz I think he’s still got it in him to be a force.

After his error last week I thought he was actually very good. He ended up with 149 run metres which was only a few behind Aloiai.

Marty Taupau may have played his last game for Manly after asking for an immediate release from the club.
The Kiwi International is without a contract next season and his management has asked the Sea Eagles for permission to join a rival franchise, which is believed to be Parramatta.

Players have until August 1 - this coming Monday - to switch clubs and Taupau has a motivation to link with Parramatta.

The Eels are one club that have left salary cap room for a late-season signing.

Not only would the experienced enforcer be a shot at playing finals footy at the Eels, the move would also likely extend his NRL career beyond its current 14th season.

The 32-year-old front-rower would prove a valuable addition to a Parramatta pack which is preparing for a forward exodus.

Marata Niukore, Isaiah Papalii, Reed Mahoney, Ray Stone and Oregon Kaufusi are all leaving the Eels at the end of this season.

Taupau has proven a mainstay of the Sea Eagles pack for the past seven seasons and his experience is a major lure.

After a torrid week due to a personal matter unrelated to the club’s jersey controversy, Taupau ran for 94-metres while producing four offloads and a tackle bust in Manly’s loss to the Roosters on Thursday night.

Well off he goes. Thank you for your service.
