SOO, Jake, DCE, general discussion

Agreed, doesn't seem much buzz this year

Must say not much of a build up to SOO, very low key up here.
It seems to me they aren't sure on the Qld team, they might win, then again they might get flogged also, like last year. Also, it's bloody cold here in Sth east Qld, and not being a Bris game has taken a lot of the hype out of it as well.

The more I think about it the worse I feel about the NSW team. Tupou over Fox is just silly and having Tariq Sims in there but not Jake doesn't sit well either. And the whole Crichton thing on the bench and Wighton starting. Again just weird in my view.

Queensland just seem to have a better balanced team. It's all good and well to have Latrell and Turbo running riot - then you can pick whoever else around them. But Freddie needed to be better this year without those guys.

I'm not in love with Matterson and RCG but will keep them in there. But this is the team Freddie should have picked

1. Teddy
2. To'o
3. Staggs
4. Crichton
5. Addo Carr
6. Luai
7. Cleary
8. Haas
9. Cook
10. Paulo
11. Murray
12. Matterson
13. Yeo

14. Jake T
15. Wighton
16. RCG
17. Martin
Sims and Wighton is a joke. Picking Wighton in the centres is a clear waste of an interchange.

There seems to be evidence that Origin is in a slow decline. I can see a couple of reasons it would.

First, Origin was born from vengeance, the desire of Qlders for retribution, after year upon year seeing their side flogged by NSW sides which featured top Qld players, just because they'd all been poached to play in the rich Sydney comp. But their decade of dominance has largely quenched that thirst for revenge, certainly taken the edge off it.

The 2nd thing was the violence of Origin - going right back to Big Artie belting his clubmate in the first game. The game's bosses quickly realised this was a massive selling point and unofficially relaxed the standards for foul play. Gallen stuffed this up by sucker punching an unsuspecting Myles. Even though he did no damage, there was already enough noise about concussion effects, so that blatant thuggery was too much to ignore. So in true knee-jerk style, an auto sin-bin for punching.

So now, without a proper historical basis for ongoing interstate hatred, and without the primal fear/excitement generated by inevitable punch-ups, all that's left is 'the best vs the best', and that's not overly convincing because plenty of the best players in NRL aren't even eligible for origin.

Had to go to the skin Dr today in the city , and then pulled up for a bit of shopping on the way home.

I saw one person with a QLD jersey on.

Zero blues jersey’s

Woolworths used to allow their staff to wear jerseys on game days , apparently not anymore.

It’s semi like it’s not even happening

It ****s me that it interferes with the premiership, I'm a broken record on it but an absolute joke teams can drop comp points due to having players out for Origin. Obviously could cost dearly come finals time.
