SOO, Jake, DCE, general discussion

I'm hoping to the captaincy might be good for him. It will be very dissappointing if he gets marched or sent for giving the ref lip this time round.

Even Paul Kent stuck up for Jake in the Telegraph this morning.

Maroons would never dump a goer like Jake

This was the heading and basically saying NSW / Fiddler will regret not picking Jake as he has always excelled at origin, especially with the hits and work he does in defence

Teddy said he contacted Jake when he found out he was not in the squad.

Jake and Tom were a package deal, and the Bulldogs offered/were prepared to offer more to sign both of them. $2.1m for both of them last year looked a bargain. This year it doesn't look good. Next year who knows?

I'm still wondering what those complaining about their contracts wanted the club to do at the time of the signings? Lowball them and see them go?

I get the current negative sentiment, given Jake and Tom aren't producing this year (and possibly going forward) on what they are getting paid.

But that's life, that's footy. To be honest I cant fault the club and the contracts they put forward to them at the time.

DCE is another story and i can fault the club.
Exactly, contracts are determined by value at the time of signing.

In hindsight its easy for everyone to be an expert but I image back in Nov 2019 If we'd let the boys go to the Dogs because we'd not pay more than say....1.6mil then I reckon Brookie would have been burnt to the ground

Oh for sure, the club/Des/trainers/rehab/players are damned if they do, damned if they don't on here.

Don't get me wrong, he's averaging 78 metres a game this year (which is pretty decent) for an 80 minute player / forward - I guess.....actually, IS it?

You mean prove “me” wrong don’t you @Ryan 😜

All I know is I want Jake to have an absolute blinder, our boys to lift for him, and make "Blind Freddy" realize the error of his ways. I mean, what is it with selections? They talk about loyalty (when you win a series), but then claim current form as the benchmark?

As much as it pains me to say it, NSW have better options - on current form - than ol' Jakey boy.

Yeo (as Lock opton) is the leader of Dally-M for a reason, and the Panthers have been rewarded for their form with a lot of selections. Murray dbls up as a 2nd Lock, even Liam Martin can play that role.

Haas/Paulo are better prop options and bend the line far more than Jake does, and there are 3 solid and more mobile fwds on the bench already who are all in great form too.

Hopefully Jake uses it to tighten up his game, stop the poor discipline, and show us some determination to prove the doubters wrong.

Freddy trying to be too tricky again.

Qld have tall wingers so he drops JAC and brings in his Roosters mate Tupou.
JAC although playing in a ****ty team is still good enough to rise to the occasion of Origin.

So is Jurbo.

NSW doing NSW things.
Spot on mate!

I was listening to Cooper Cronk, who made a really valid point - If you start picking your team based on what your opposition is doing, you’re already losing the battle by looking at things from a negative mindset.

I honestly think he outsmarts himself.
Also, he played Moses & Wighton in the halves when he could have played experienced Origin halves Reynolds & Walker.

However, mostly his team selections & game plans have worked.

These were my thoughts too ( although Cooper is a bit smarter than me).
We name our team first - which is weird enough in itself - so why name a team based on what we think they'll pick?

Whatever happened to picking your best/proven players and backing yourself that you've got it right.

JAC and Turbo have never let NSW down in a NSW jersey, they aren't playing terribly and it's not like the players that replaced them are knocking the door down to replace them.

Freddie's reasoning of the why's and wherefor's is odd - name your team and say "we think this is the best 17 to beat Qld" and leave it at that.
He'd better hope that Tuppu doesn't let any tries in from kicks.

There is that period in origin where Queensland pile on the pressure for 10 to 15 minutes solid. That's when you need Jake. Tackle after tackle after tackle he'll be up there.. May cost you a penalty or two but in origin you need players that never give up.

7wins:5losses for NSW.
However, he has coached NSW to 3 wins in the last 4 series. He hasn't won a series without Turbo, so it will be a first if he can do it this year. QLD has a very good side this year & I think the only positions where NSW may be superior are 1 & 7 (plus possibly front row).

Regarding team selections, after the Blues lost Game One in 2019, Fittler made 7 changes (some quite drastic) for Game Two. The Blues won that game 38-6 in Perth and went on to win the series. Last year, it was Fittler's up tempo game plan which blew QLD off the park in Game One and resulted in a record 50-6 win. The Blues won the second game 26-0.

Two things,

One, people seem keen to attack Jake but I think our coaching and stucture need to take a lot of the blame here.

The 80 minutes, link man tackle bot role aint doing him and favours.

Two, people are awfully quick to turn on Jake and Turbo and thats grand, each to their own opinion or right to blow off steam. That said, I aint taking any moaning about loyalty if any of our players up sticks and take a better offer and any stage.
You cant demand loyalty from players then bin them like a used tissue.

Look out for yourselves cause a bunch of the fans don't have your back
Agreed, it comes down to game plan, like when Sirro would cut back inside instead of feeding his outside men, our sluggishness is down to the coaching staff, from our slow play the balls to our slow and staggered defensive line, we have to be the slowest team in the comp both in attack and defence and when you play that game week in and week out the only thing to surmise is that they're playing to a plan otherwise there'd soon be an obvious change
