Going after up and comers is also a gamble. They are cheap and want to prove themselves and could be the next best thing, on the other hand they are an unknown and might turn out to be flops like sao. He was the under 20s prop of the year and didn't really kick on. Same as chee cham.

But Manly have also chased Elgey, ash taylor, te maire, asofa etc and they are turning into quality.

Think you need a mix. Go after some potential super stars but if a quality player comes available and a position your club needs those key signings can bring your team from pretenders to contenders. We still need 2-3 key signings imo to get us back into contention

We aren't even doing a good job at being pretenders. The club under the Penn and Zorba crew are cellar dwellers.

But Reed's retirement will lead to his re-signing, my sort of insider at the Donkeys suggested the only way they'd fit Matt in was if Jack retired.
