Slater Knob Fest

1. He needs to be suspended
2. The rule needs to be changed

Carry on

Can't see how he gets off to be honest with the way the rule is written.

I think the rule is stupid and is typical of the knee jerk reactionary style of the NRL. They make changes on the run without really thinking of all the consequences and scenarios.
They have made it an illegal tackle so it has to be viewed in the same way as if it was a head high, elbow, trip etc.
The dicks wanted everything to be black and white and for some things that's fine - like playing the ball with your foot, offside and forward passes and they can't even get that right.

I liken it a slide tackle in soccer, yes the potential is there to do some damage IF you get it wrong but it if your timing is spot on to get the job done then kudos to you but the consequences are
severe IF you f^&k it up.
Big IF's I know but there's no if in this as the NRL has taken them out.

And how dumb is this, the Storm wanted the hearing tonight which is fair enough as it's GF week, Dally M's Wednesday night and then the GF breakfast etc.

The NRL who are in charge of who gets charged and who doesn't couldn't get legal counsel for tonight.
Nah, they didn't have anyone on standby....just in case.
Amateurs.

Under the current rules, yes he should be suspended. But regardless of how we feel about Slater and the Drizzle, its a stupid rule. We'd have all been blowing up nuclear if Snake had been forced to miss a GF for Manly because he did the same thing, and we'd blow up if it happened to Turbo.
True mate BUT you could always look at this from the point of view that slater has been doing this sort of thing for years and getting a way with it. Look at the 2008 grand final when he was leading with the feet on our wingers and bugger all was said about it. What goes around comes around and again as I have said before Karma can be a great thing.I say **** Slater. Some people never learn and now he could very well pay the price for all those years of playing like a grub. There was no reason he could not have made a conventional copy book tackle which has been done for years in the same situation to save a try. If he gets off on this, then I will be totally turned of this game for good.

They might take a leaf out of the way they heard our salary cap appeal. Take months to hear it and impose the penalty in the meantime.

No one has tried the old "not his go" routine on this one, because we all know it IS his go......... and some

You listen tonight on Fox coverage. It will be a billyathon
I think Fittler is the only one of note that has said publicly that he should be suspended. Also the fact that he also said Turbo should've got the SOO man of the series award ahead of Slater has me in Freddies corner.

Sterling agreed with Freddy. And if you want to throw an unlikely smokey into the mix to add even more weight against studs up, then “ Queenslander “ Billy Moore also agreed with Fittler.

I think deep down they all think he should be suspended as the rule is written and the fact plenty of others have been suspended for less this year but say otherwise in public because

1. They want to stay part of the boys club

and/or

2. They disagree with the law in the first place ( which has some merit but doesn’t change the fact he should be suspended under the current law)

You're another rat bastard I can't find argument with lol. You and @manlywarringah are not making my day :rofl::rofl:

It couldn't have happened to a bigger and more deserving grub than Slater, unless it was Smith. And even then there is only the width of a cigarette paper between them, if that much.

But I still can't shake the nasty feeling that tomorrow night, the judiciary is going to sell the last piece of the NRL's soul and Slater is going to be cleared to play. For mine, any credibility the NRL has left as an unbiased sporting body is riding on tomorrow night. Suspend him like they should and they stay the execution. Clear him and if they haven't already, the NRL will officially be a joke.

I was about to write that Brian Fletcher has also said he needs to be suspended, then I noticed the “only one of note” disclaimer.

Maybe the base penelty points is too high. Friend also had a grade 1 and with the early guilty plea is free too play. Would thk a spear tackle would have the same base points as a shoulder charge.
So as long as you had no carry over points you would be safe as friend is.

Of course anyone grieving the loss of a loved one would have this opinion. It's totally understandable. But didn't the death occur because a shoulder struck his brother's head?.
Not sure, someone here might know, from memory the reporting around that incident was not detailed. I actually got the impression it was not from direct contact shoulder to head (but could well be wrong about that).

Coroner John Lock told the court Francis Molo made no contact with Ackerman's head or neck but the force upon his shoulder was enough to rupture an artery, resulting in death from a traumatic haemorrhage.

And this is why the shoulder charge rule was brought in :wait:

Feki's shoulder ACL began with the force of Slater's hit 😡

Was it five years ago that they brought in the rule? How time flies when your sport is going down the gurgler....
I think the intention of the rule was to eliminate shoulder contact with the head, which makes it a valid rule. However, shoulder contact with another part of the body should still be OK. It is a contact sport.
To me, what Slater did was what any desperate player would do to prevent an opponent scoring a try. That's all I'm saying.
I fully agree mate, shoulder charges should all be legal, but if it hits the head should be instant 8-10 weeks.. Regardless of "he was on his way down" type arguments.. And yea, he was trying to save a try, but still, by the rules were forced to watch these days, that's no defence. Can't take someone's head off with a high shot just cos ur desperate to stop them scoring. It's still illegal..

Not having a go, like I said before, hate the rule, but if countless of players have had to miss weeks for shots that were much less of a shoulder charge than Slater did, he should be rubbed out no arguments..

But he won't be..

For anyone wishing to lose brain cells, this is the headline and subheading on the front page of SMH today (courtesy of Webster):

Free Billy
"It will be an injustice if Storm fullback Billy Slater isn't cleared to play by the NRL judiciary.
"It's not a shoulder charge. It's a shoulder collision.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/ha...later-should-be-set-free-20180923-p505jl.html

So now its a shoulder collision and FFS the hip hits first ??? WTF
I know Billy'S a bit of a hipster but IT WAS A SHOULDER CHARGE

That Tapine shoulder charge they just showed on nrl tnite proves Slater should be suspended. Dude got 2 weeks for something very similar. if not as bad as slater.
