Signings very quiet

Any signings that we make will be heavily dependent on what happens with Taupau and Suli, and to a lesser degree Cust. I would like to think we find a way to retain Taupau for next season at least. Assuming that Suli is released, and potentially Cust as well, that opens up six spots for the 2022 squad. Out of that Fainu and Saddler will almost certainly be upgraded from the development squad. That still leaves four spots up for grabs (two if Suli and Cust are retained)

Suli - Released
Boyle - No New Contract Offered
Funa - No New Contract Offered
Taufua - No New Contract Offered
Gosiewski - No New Contract Offered
Cust - Potentially Released

We will be signing two players at least from outside the Manly system for 2022. I think that its more likely that we sign four.
You can possibly add sironen to the "no new contract offered" also

That is such a good point CM, could get good players without paying overs for them. Why wouldn't you want to come to a successful club like Manly and play with match winners and a club that's a premiership threat next season.
90% of NRL wingmen would give their right and left testicles to play outside turbo. And would probably take a payout to do it.

I agree with most comments the squad is quite good at the moment the few that are off contract most likely be moved on except for one or two kept for depth and then bring in the younger ones to prime them up for the future
Its more about player retainment at this time making sure the club doesn’t loose the players they want to keep

Probably a bunch of development kid upgrades as guys like olakau'atu, paseka, croker, sipley, keppie are now going into their prime form and taking ownership

Bullemor the only rumoured signing. If we have Marty playing, sign Bullemor and with Fainu back we should be top 2-3 favourites to win the comp next year.

Really hope Cust is front and centre of MANS long term plans. I know it's hard to keep em all. But the good clubs seem to find a way don't they.
Where would you play him @double hoops DCE will be at the club for at least two more years. Foran has another year to go, and Schuster will take that spot. We arguably have enough cover in the hooker spot, until Fainu comes back and when he does we have too much. Walker and Lawton cover the utility spot on the bench. Cust wont have a shot there whilst Walker and Lawton are with us. Cust cant play any other position except hooker and halfback. He isnt a five eight, and even if he was we have Shuster, Lawton and Walker as cover there. Weekes and potentially Humphreys to come through in two years time. I am guessing pre-season Nov 2024. Unfortunately for Cade he has lost his window with us. I personally dont think its fair to hold him back if another club offers a regular first grade spot. Right now its hard to see who that might be.

He will definitely sign on for a reduced rate for 2023 as it will be his last contract.
The problem is next year, he is apparently on a sizeable back ended contract of around 800k which might be a problem for our salary cap.
If a club is prepared to offer him a 2 or 3 year deal for next year and beyond, then the club wouldn't stand in the way of him leaving.

Back ended contract, sounds familiar. Was that before or after Des?

Our priority should be retention, not recruitment, for next year at least. There are very few players in our top 17 who I'd replace with someone from another club right now, especially when you factor in things like team cohesion. Promote youngsters like Burbo and only let go of the players who are being offered overs elsewhere, IMHO.

Probably Des, most clubs would do back ending of contracts to some degree, it's the nature of the salary cap, fitting in players one year, moving players on the following year etc etc, however the NRL has now put a clamp down on heavily back ended deals,

Named after a North Shore Chinese Restaurant, Gordon Chan Kum Tong is a promising hooker who was captain of our SG Ball team. No need to recruit when he is already a home delivery.
There is that other young hooker on our books too, built like a brick outhouse. Can’t recall his name? Plus that gun centre who scored a million tries in U18s…

I know the centre you are talking about but I can't remember his name. He scored four tries in one match. I know this is going OTT but he reminded me of a young Bozo Fulton. He is zippy, a nugget and a real competitor. Whenever he had the ball something happened.

Agree EOL. But not just wingmen. We have promising young players in this side and great leaders on top of having the best player in the game. We would definitely be seen as a good landing spot for those who want to taste success and are perhaps prepared to take a pay cut to do it.

Well Curtis gone and Tafua certainly won’t be signed.

As to the rest , we’ll just have to wait to see.
