Could this be Seinfelds last dance at the OK coral if we lose or definitely no extension. Honestly with all this talk about moving the juniors and girls team out west is very worrying and leaving the Northern Beaches vulnerable to a takeover from the new Bears Franchise when they come in has me very worried about where the club is heading. I know there is a lot on here, like me that have been through all the bad times from the past and we new we would pull through it, but there just seems to be so much uncertainty in the future of our club. We are only chasing broken down players or players that are ready to go the pasture. This bloke doesn't instill any confidence in me, I would love for him to prove me wrong, but I cant see it happening. As my mate keeps saying to me, we need to play for 80 minutes not 20 and at the moment, we dont know how to do that. Anyway thats my rant.

Yeah mentioned how Manly had won more games this year than last, thyre playing finals and there's nine other teams who wish they were, that was the biggest loss this year...just positive spin after positive spin.

It might be all saved for behind closed doors and from a managerial perspective I can respect that to an extent, but fans deserve to see that he gives a damn.

Not to Sticky levels.

But a bit of passion please. Maybe try salsa dancing midweek Seibs, think about it.
To me he sounds like he’s giving a press conference designed to save/secure his job. Keep it positive, don’t criticise his team too much. Mention the good things, like we’ve won more games than last year. Maybe he’s different behind closed doors but in the presser it smacks of self preservation.

Yeah, it didn't get much better after that. Pretty insipid press conference, really: Cronulla too good (which is true), we've made some gains this year as compared to last year (also true), "narrow focus" on next week, and plenty of "work-ons". He expects both teams to play their best footy next week, although I think that's based more on hope than evidence.

Also dodged a question (which was poorly expressed anyway) about our leaky defence, saying that the game has changed and you don't see many 12-6 results these days. Which may be true, but one thing hasn't changed in the game of rugby league: If your opponent scores pretty much every time they have the ball, you will not win.
And the other thing that hasn’t changed is that defence wins premierships.

Seibs continues the obsession with Croker at 9 from other coaches, and the value he brings defensively, I would love him to mix it up a little, Jake to Prop rotation, Crocker to Lock and bring back Simpkins.
No need for a bench hooker as we would have 2 on field so we could carry a back on the bench.
Look at Lawton, we broke the mould and put him at 2nd row.

Grade him a c-. This team has no spine or spirit. Results are all over the place, poorly coached and rudderless at times. Don’t think you would see any other teams wanting him.
So much to play for in the last month, leading matches by a lot and collapse / embarrassing on his behalf

Never been a fan of this suggestion ... until now! Watching the Sharks dummy half play a leading role really rubbed in the value of a skilled 9.

Crokes is rightly a club leader and his courage and energy is needed in the team somewhere. Never quite sure of the accuracy of player height/weight but it seems Crokes is very similar in stature to Cam McInnes, a middle who used to be a 9.

Unlike others, yes I agree I value Croker, he needs to be in the team from the players we have, so is just a bit of movement and just my opinion as an ex half that has held his own as Hooker and as defensive as he is could make a real go of it at lock.

If he can't make a good lock, then he should be depth only. But certainly no more dummy half

I cannot understand the Croker to lock talk. It can’t be for his defence because we’ve been leaking more points since he came back in, and our ruck defence has been woeful. He has no running game either so wouldn’t help our go forward which we already struggle with, could you imagine both him and Jake starting as middle forwards together? We’d get absolutely demolished

To be honest I wouldn’t mind seeing it but only for Blacktown, like the Parker to second row move this year. I imagine it would have a very similar outcome to that.

Yeah I said earlier in the thread (and no knock on you if you missed it, I always just skip to the most recent posts and work backwards) but it looked like he was spying for his extension he was told to cool his jets on.

It's a shame more players can't do what Woodside did when they're that little bit past first grade level. Stick around a club and know they're going to be, unless disaster strikes, in reserves and add some experience to the grades coming through. @BOZO will go on his usual diatribe about this but when a reserve comp is full of players who were only ever fringe first graders or up and comers it is to the detriment of the entirety of the competition and the game.

I could never get that through to you could I feathered friend?

Thank you!!

100% agree, I think its an awful idea. IMO people are getting a little obsessed with this ball playing lock idea.

The primary role is still yardage and defence. Your two best locks in the game in Carrigan and Yeo average 139m and 123m respectively both with 30 plus tackles. Even McInnes as a comparison provided carries for 95m a game.

I do not see Croker making us 100m a game.

Also Jake having a different number on his back isnt going to significantly alter his game, so have Croker at 13 means two of your starting middles are Jake and Crokes....we'd be slaughtered.

If he is not hooker he is out of the team IMO

It’s all irrelevant for this year anyway - or what’s left of it. They’re not going to make a massive positional change like that, going into the finals. Just won’t happen. BUT they could easily bring in Simpkin onto the bench because we’ve done similar before and IMO it worked.

You really think NRL coaches are sacked or retained based on their press conferences? Interesting theory but I doubt it!

That's not the point. It's about controlling the narrative played out in the media.

If the media get a sniff of underperformance, the public pile-on begins, which fuels a spiralling amount of pressure on the club to act. Seibold got pummelled in Brisbane once the media started their feeding frenzy, and the situation become unbearably untenable very fast.

Seibold has been a little traumatised by the experience, and is making 100% certain that this time around he will use all the positive spin possible to ensure the media are on his side for as long as possible. This is very effective for middle-of-the road results. As long as he avoids bottom 4, or any significant steps backward, he hopes to carve out a career for as long as possible.
