Sure that the situation will change next season in any case with Walker moving on and trying to compensate with the spark he provides . No reason why Shu can 't do well in the 13 role , bit of an increased work load in defence but no different from what the likes of Yeo and Murray are able to manage and still play to a high level . Would need Jake to still play big minutes in the prop role but good and durable enough competitor to manage it .

Weidler just on 100% Footy saying Schuster's manager has written to Manly
This is absolute crap.
Let's assume it happened - if so, the idea that a manager would write to a club complaining about the client's treament without the OK of the player concerned is absurd.
Not to mention, if it happened how would Weed know unless the manager had tipped him off? Would anyone at Manly have contacted Weed and given him that news? Um, no.

Every player, certainly as far Manly is concerned (not too fussed about how poorly run other clubs are) when signing should be told in no uncertain terms that any issues that get publicised by their manager will count against the player himself. In other words have a manager by all means but make sure they know exaclty what you expect from them in terms of any media leaks that the club may not be happy about.

It's not good enough for a player to say 'Oh my manager did it I didn't know'.

This story makes Schu's manager looks like crap, and doesn't do much for Schu himself either. Weidler looked like crap already so no change there.

When Foran signed, it was for one year with an additional year at the club’s behest. So to Schu and his management, it’s two years TOPS of bouncing in and out of the side or a permanent fixture in less desirable position. All of the sudden this prospect extends to a third season, and surprise surprise, we get this story. Not hard to believe at all.
Fair enough but Manly upgraded Latu Fainu many months ago also .

I remember when we kept Brent Kite ( yes a great club servant no knock on him ) and let Jared Waerea Hargraves go to the Roosters.

Sometimes you've just gotta be ruthless and think long term. As unfair as that may be in the short term. And Keiran is playing great BUT he was happy to walk away when is suited him at our drakest hour a few years back so can't really claim loyalty as a motivating factor.

Schuster is special....get it sorted.

Rarely are razzle dazzle footballers (particularly halves) ever elite. They’re exciting and they do freakish things but they’re rarely ever elite. If you look at the biggest superstars the game has seen, they’ve always been measured in their approach.

I worry about the Harlem Globetrotter in Schu when it comes to playing in the halves. I can only really think of Marshall as a half that was able to make a career out of flamboyance in a position that demands discipline and control.

As it stands, in the back row, he gets 1/3 of the touches he would get at 6 and most weeks last year, there were talking points about some silly plays that needed to be ironed out of his game. The law of averages suggest that more touches equal more silly plays.

I would proceed with caution if I was Manly.
Indeed.

Cameron Smith was the best out there because he almost always made the right play at the right time. To the casual observer you wouldn't even notice him doing it.

Schuster is a talent but I can't see him long term at 6 next to DCE unless he's been learning about grit discipline and subtlety from Foran

With one Fainu brother gone to Wests, perhaps the mgr is angling for Schuster to potentially move. They offered him a ****load of $$ in 2019.
Signing Foran for another year will not help the situation.
I think Storm are the team we should be worried about when it comes to poaching.

Guess that the difference here is that Shu can play in other positions in contrast to J W H even allowing for his probable preference to play 6 . Still not totally certain if Foz will go around again next season. , Obviously one of Manly 's more consistent performers at present , may still find it challenging to go with the likes of the Storm , Panthers and Souths no , 6 "s but did O K against Wighton recently . Maybe Latu Fainu can play as a 7 also but D C E will still be around for a while now also . Best to be sort out if it is an issue right now but not to overstate the matter also when no player can automatically or generally expect to have a mortgage on any set position .

Sounds logical. Just would like to hear it from the manager because I wouldn’t believe Weedler or any of the other media germs.
If there’s truth to it, I have zero issue with the manager doing what they can. Especially when there would be a heap of clubs wanting to get the kids services.

Schu is the future. Foran is the past.
We’ve shown that (regardless of how good Foz has been playing) we need more to change our current squad issues and push us higher up the ladder.

This kid is talented and I hope Manly had a succession plan because Foz is 1 injury away from really hurting our chances.

God imagine letting Schu walk to re-sign Foz and then Foz goes down with injuries - it would be a similar Fainu/Api situation 😬.
I can understand the danger in the situation, regardless of an injury to Foran; fully fit, he is still only a year or two away from retirement and someone needs to play 6 when he is gone.

I’m sold on Schu being a great footballer but not sold on him at 6. People talk about it being his position growing up but that’s untrue. He was always a centre/backrower until Manly decided to throw him into the halves in SG Ball. He’s pretty much got 1.5 seasons of lower grade football (injured for a large portion of it) worth of experience in that position and that’s it. He wasn’t picked at 6 in junior rep sides either.

I think he suits ball playing backrower or maybe a Radley/Yeo type ball playing lock. But regardless, I would hate to see him leave Manly.

Fair enough. His management team know he can earn a sizeably larger sum playing in the halves. With Foran’s contract floating about for next year, I’d say they’re getting nervous that next year’s opportunity for Schu to show his wares and potentially earn an upgraded deal are hinging on Manly’s decision with Foran.
What's not helping his cause, he spends a considerable amount of time on the sidelines when injured. Hardly a good position to make deals from..

Agree with everything you say.

Understand he might not be the best 6 - I just know he needs his hands on the ball more and we need a 6 - because regardless of how many years Foz has left - we’ve proven it’s not enough to compete with the top teams.

We need changes to compete with the best. Schu is a fantastic talent. Give him a go at 6, if it doesn’t workout, back to the edge or a roaming 13.

I could not bare to watch a game with Schu playing for the opposition knowing that we could have had him.
100%. We’ve been lucky at Manly not to have too many kick on and leave us in the rear view but Schu certainly has the talent to make Manly rue the day they ever let him walk.

How would you know what conversations have been had between them Weidler/Management?
Or what was said in confidence and what wasn’t?
I’m not saying you are, I’m just pointing out that journos can manipulate information to sell stories and get clicks.

Only last year Schu signed onto play till 2024.
Yet after not playing a single game due to injury, we’re assuming (because of Danny Widler) the manager is pressuring the club about Schu being the 6.

Listen to what Weirdler actually says about the alleged email - it’s more to do with the conversation had between Humphreys (who has now left the club in unusual circumstances) and now with the new management confirming the plan for Josh to 6.

Everything else Wurdler says is his own opinion.

“In effect, Manly has been put on notice regarding Schuster and false promises made to him and his family”
Oh really Danny?

It’s not like Danny has ever got it wrong 😂
the only lock in anything about this story is that Weedler is a gronk.

No thanks I won't read anything written by Weidler, lol, was just going off someone's comment made here that a letter had been written. Would much prefer to learn that is untrue.

Foran is like sugar a short term fix. Keeping Foran at the end of his long career and letting Schuster go is really really dumb. We will regret it long term for sure! Schuster is not going to wait until Foran decides to retire in 2 years time to play 5/8. I don't blame him. If we extend Foran then Des is losing the plot.

Yes, he needs his hands on the ball more. He could start by getting himself in top shape and fitness and getting himself on the park consistently to begin with.

AND, that’s what it’s all about , driving up his value so he gets a bigger payday.
