Des as a coach is only one win ahead of Dragons & Warriors. Look what happened to the coaches of those 2 teams. Just saying........

I'll never love Des like I did pre-2011 but now is not the time to sack him.

We do however need a succession plan! Who are the next bright Manly men coming through the coaching ranks?

We have never done well with outsiders.

Is it Mona's? Is Kitey still coaching and doing well down South ( I think). Is Randall a future coaching option?

Whoever it is the need to be identified, brought into the club and developed as we have never done well with outsiders at the top

I love tooves but those two years were the most boring I've ever seen manly play
I don’t remember that team as boring. I remember them as frenetic. It seemed every time they touched the ball they tried to score a try. I’ve never seen any team move the ball along the back line as often. Still, Killer was in the centres so I guess they were playing to their strengths.

Has any other team in the 2020 comp had to deal with the disruption we've had to deal with this season?

Starting hooker out on criminal charges before the season started = buying another (Levi) late in the game.

Starting fullback out for 2 long injury periods.

Starting 5/8th (who hasn't yet completely settled into the role because he's a specialist centre) out for 2 long injury periods.

Salary cap fine of $330k.

Add all of the above to the effect of COVID-19 (that everyone has had to deal with) & you're talking about major disruptions to a team building combinations, etc.

@HoldenV8 provided some interesting stats in another thread about how many games we've played this season with our starting backline complete.

Again, what other team has played most of the season without their starting 1, 6 & 9?

Then we get the anti-DCE brigade complaining about him taking up too much of our cap (although I'm pretty sure his total remuneration is made up of base salary, marquee discount & third party but let's not let facts get in the way of a good story) while not covering our missing starting 1, 6 & 9 positions as well as his own position clamouring about throwing as much $$$ as needed at a bloke who hasnt played a game of footy since he was 16 to keep him here.

It's unreal - we've had a sh1t season with the same team that took us to the finals last year.

These things happen, especially under the extraordinary circumstances 2020 has brought.

Sorry, but these excuses won't wash. We have not been hit by injuries as hard as several other clubs who are flying high. If you check the post 'We've only used 23 players' you'll see that we have had the most stable team in the comp.
Our problem is that our selectors don't have the gonads to try new players or use different tactics.

What clubs do you refer to?

Crucial positions, so crucial the players who have filled in for them have been heavily scrutinised in every game.

I'm also just saying .... that we have 4 current coaches in the NRL that were sacked by the very club they won Premierships for ...

Macguire sacked by Souths after winning their 1st title in 42 years .. for Seibold (hahahaaaaahha)
Bennett sacked by Broncos after winning 5 titles for them .. for Seibold .. (Haaaahahhahhhaaa)
Stuart sacked by Easts after winning them a title ...
Paul Green sacked by Cowboys after winning their 1st title ..

Didn't Manly also sack Des?

I certainly dont want Des to go, but I do want someone to get into his ear about his selection policy. He's great at getting the best out of his players, but some of these guys' best is not good enough to consistently win. He needs fresh blood, Good he's got Funa and Cust in that back line, but he needs more

As I said in the Reuben Garrick - Adonis page, in the past 10 weeks (since Round 4) we have not once started a game with the same 1-7 as we had the previous week. We've had 10 different 1-7 combinations in the past 10 weeks, and even those have often changed mid-game because of injuries.

Regardless that we've only used 23 players all season, that is hardly stable. The only constant in the same position in the backline has been DCE. Suli and Parker have missed games, as has Jorge. Cust has missed a game when Walker made a rare appearance. Garrick has swapped between wing and fullback. Elliot was in, out, in, and now out again. And through it all we are missing 3 of our 4 main strike players (Turbo, Walks and Fainu). We're damn lucky we're not in the position of Brisbane, the Cows or the Dogs.

We would have been in those positions had we had had Turbo and Walker helping the side to three early wins
