Should we sack Trent

Mate - do you reckon that's how the storm, Broncos and roosters of the world look at things? Of course not. It's win at all costs. Clubs like manly are already fighting an unlevel playing field - we are supposed to tie both hands behind our backs and try to win "the right way" when other clubs already have a ridiculous advantage?

Hear what your saying - I was appalled that the Storm had a 10 year function to celebrate for the premiership they stole- even Greenturd attended. But who's wins are more respected. Melbourne would just say well - we won. Just because they do it doesn't make it right - what values do you want your kids to remember?

This is more a societal issue as in the real world the same things happen, there's millionaires rorting laws and ripping people off with total disregard and living the life (always mostly with the token trophy wife as well) whilst the mainstream are struggling waiting for the next pay check. It's the moral compass thing. You see it every day in the news.

There is no easy answer to this - right or wrong. Not being high and mighty, I just want my kids to grow up understanding the difference and hopefully they will lead their life accordingly.

Please don’t mention cheap Brown Muscat it’s the first thing I got pissed on when I was 15. I went camping with my mates in the bush up the wakehurst parkway and I laid out in the pouring rain all night spewing my guts up and I’ve never touched the stuff again in 45 years. Oh to be young again.

Ha, now that’s the spirit!!

Speaking of spirits I used to sneak my Dads beers when he wasn’t looking, and even better when I got my first motorbike he used to send me up to the pub ( backroads) to get him 4 large bottles , he had an account with the pub. I’d get there, order 6, hide 2 and bring him home 4.

Worked a treat until after I’d saved up 8 large bottles I invited my best mate around and we got pissed ( yeah I know weak , 8 beers and we were hammered ) and my old man caught us legless!!

Thrashed the crap out of me, took my mate home and banned him for 6 months and told the pub never to give me booze on his account again!!

Oh well, it was fun whilst it lasted!!

By the way forgot to mention I was13 at the time!!

As much as everyone wants to sack Barrett, he is under contract, and I suspect if he gets the team up for a few wins before the end of the year, he will be retained. A few reasons for this is, there are not many good coaches that will be available for the picking, our luck with injuries has been unbelievable bad, and being restricted by the salary cap fiasco, I can see him being forgiven. We know what happened to Toovey, so I can't see that happening until the Penns sell to the Arabs. None of the team has anything bad to say about Barrett, quite the contrary. We have a young side that have all been blooded except for Anderson, so with stronger leadership on the paddock, perhaps Jake being the Captain, we are bound to be in a better position next year. Sorry strone33 et all, "Sack Barrett" just aint going to happen this year.

Anyone watch NRL 360 last night and see the segment "Controversy Corner", chaired by Graeme Hughes with Blocker, Bill Harrigan and Phil Rothfield. That is a dead set Manly bash a thon! Never an episode goes by without of of those clowns bringing up a rumor about Manly!

Last night Graeme (the worst of them) goes, just heard "Barrett is looking to get out! Finding it untenable" Then blocker goes, why would a first grade coach just give up that position without another gig and rothfiled adds, haven't heard that one?? who is your source? The muppet Graeme responds "argh, cant say, dont reveal my sources". These guys just make up crap every week to start a rumor!!

Mate, I was watching and it was a deadset bashathon I ended up turning the tv off in disgust.

Whether Twenty is a good coach or not surely everyone must admit that he has been beset by injuries and off field distractions. If you go to the NRL website and check the list of casualties we currently have it is 7-8. Then there are all the ones earlier in the season. We've been forced to use 31 players to date. The 'Riff were flying until recent weeks when they have also suffered a heap of injuries.
Illawarra still have every one of its squad available. No injuries throughout the season, yet. Little wonder they are leading the comp.
Had Twenty had a full squad every match I'm sure the results would have ensured we'd be wanting him to be locked in as coach for an extended period.

It may not have been your finest moment but it was a pretty good plan for a 13yo...just goes to show you were born with a head for business. lol

Also shows Mark is not the Messiah. He's just a ...well you know the rest.

Don’t worry I’ve done just about all the bad **** the young fellas have got up to, except maybe drugs , never done them but I’ve made up for it with too much alcohol that’s for sure.

And what they don’t tell you is the **** you do when you are 16 comes back to haunt you in your 60’s.

My , “ no hat no shirt” summers are now creating a motza for the skin Doctors!!

Too much info.

The wrong hard ass. Look what Siebolds done with the Rabbits this year. And we had him and fked him off.
Look at Maguire’s record at the Rabbits.First premiership in a long time.He was there for 6 seasons and 5 is enough for a coach to be at one club,Bennett and Bellamy are the exception.Maguire didn’t just start not being able to coach,it was that his voice was just getting old at Souths. They climbed the mountain with him but they just got tired and needed a refresh. Not many of their squad had a negative word to say about him.

I get that but in his first season with is in 2016 we had a crap year like this and in that season we were also smashed by injuries and and now fast forward to 2018 we have the same problem / excuse again this year. Nothing changed. So, yep, it's a tough game and injuries are part of it but in 2/3 of the seasons Barrett has been in charge of us we have had the same problem and injuries have led to poor on field results. Is this just bad luck or is it the way the coaching staff are conditioning the team? Is it something that the coach can control? How come other clubs seem to be better able to manage the gaps in their teams that the inevitable injuries create? I don't know the answers but letting TB off due to the "injury" excuse doesn't really sit that well with me. Injuries are part and parcel of the game and after 3 years in charge he should have built depth into the squad to be better able to manage this. Also, I do get the feeling that we are not as fit as other teams and this also leads to us being injury prone.

Yep, the amount of injuries we get, particularly in comparison to other clubs, is a concern. To me, this is the most vexing issue we need to address. Can it all be just bad luck? Some people blame the Brookie surface but we've had injuries at many different venues.
I'm sure every supporter would like to know what Illawarra is doing to have a clean sheet of injuries this season.
Putting injuries aside, (and I've stated this before) I'd love to see Tooves return as head of coaching (and water boy, I loved him in that role) and try the Walker Brothers as the NRL coaches. They would certainly change things up. We can't go much worse.
I'm sure that Twenty is an accomplished coach but we simply need to be competing for the premiership, not the spoon.

The Walker brothers are a myth. They had a great first season with some top notch players but since then the other coaches have figured them out and have struggled

Did the same, at the same age, at Stanwell Tops, with Black Douglas car boot 20 minute old scotch. 34 years later, still cant stand the smell of a scotch (and I was a barman @ the railway hotel in Carlton through 4 years of uni). Nice to know I wasn't the only fool.

It was a Brandivino or flagons of cheap royal reserve port for me, >40 years later still can't drink port and the youth of today can thank God that they probably don't even make that horrible Brandivino crap anymore.

Surely in the company of many fools... I can fondly remember (well, actually no, I can't, but was told of) being passed out in the boot of a car with a female accomplice after our 6th form champagne breakfast... ahh the memories... if only I had them!

Blackberry Nip - I can barely type it 40 years later.
