Round 9 other games (2018)

The depressing thing is I watch some of these games and think how much better the teams are than we are.

I know we are a win away from looking better but at our worst , FMD, we are awful!!
There doesn't seem to be any upside. I try to be positive...Greenberg will be dead one day, but then so will I......hope we get a win before I'm gone 🙁

But the annoying thing is that if we were ever at full strength this season ( we know this won't happen again this year due to injuries) with a bit of confidence there is a team here but have really not ever had a chance to see this.

We have talent in this footy team, down on confidence and the NRL crusade against us this year.

So.....is a player allowed to knock the ball forward to themselves?

Last night the Cowboys' Antonio Winterstein deliberately knocked the ball forward and caught it. Play on, with no comment by anyone. It was as if it never happened.

Tonight the Tigers' Pita Godinet deliberately knocked the ball forward and caught it. Play on, with no comment by anyone. It was as if it never happened.

Two weeks ago, Manly's Akuila Uate deliberately knocked the ball forward and caught it. Every commentator is suddenly an expert on the rules, declaring it is illegal. Penalty against Manly.

That's been part of the problem @EagleGT , we're getting hammered by the refs, especially early in games or when we look like making a comeback, while we see other teams doing the same things and getting away with it.

Do you think if Turbo had dropped that ball like the Brisbane player did on Thursday that they would have called it a knock back? It would have been a scrum 12 metres out to the opposition quicker than you could blink.

It was proven a month ago that the first penalty and a subsequent few against the Tigpies were definitely not penalties (being back 12 metres in defence is not offside). Yet they keep happening game after game like it was a planned thing.

I know that we're a team out of form and down on confidence right now, but the hammering we are getting from the refs is getting on the nose.

And that’s not changing anytime soon, I bet today’s game , next week and the one after are no different!!

Yes by far and away the biggest issue in the game these days is the real/perceived ref bias. We have such a wonderful game full of amazing athletes. But for the last decade or so the terrible performances of referees is really destroying my love for the game. And not just from a Manly bias either, I watch heaps of games and seeing one team absolutely unfairly caned with poor decisions just makes me shake my head in disgust. I'm in AFL mad Melbourne and it saddens me that very rarely in their game is there umpire controversy overshadowing the game itself. Yet in our code, the majority of games it seems you have the odd howler or two. It's the elephant in the room because ALL of us talk about it often yet nothing seems to change. And it's appalling that the powers that be have made no transparent effort to acknowledge it as a serious credibility issue. It's the dirty little secret that the NRL doesn't talk about. Do I want Manly to win every game?? U bet I do but more importantly I want a game to be proud of. Ive felt quite the opposite for a long time tbh. Rant over, time for a Bex and a lay down. (And Go Manly)

There’s no doubt in my mind that refs are influencing the game now more than any time since I’ve been watching.

You will always get howlers , always , it’s human nature ( who could forget the 7th tackle try and won the 1995 GF for the Bulldogs).

I can live with the occasional howler, a try that wasn’t or a try denied that should of BUT that’s not the issue.

It’s how games are either manipulated, or if not manipulated then certainly influenced by a run of penalties.

Fast forward to this afternoons game and let’s say for example after 15 minutes the penalty count was 10-0 to Manly, I’ll guarantee that we’d be well in front as the Rorters would then be playing with 12 men.

Now, subjectively you could almost find a penalty in every ruck, hands in the ball, stripping, holding down, twisting ,incorrect play the ball yes the list goes on.

So subjectively again if this is the case it’s super easy now for refs to really influence almost the total games outcome on when / where / and how many in a row Penalties are given.

To me that just screams injustice, for whichever side it happens to.

I bet, this afternoon we won’t see a string of penalties for Storm / Goons but WILL SEE a string of them for the second game.

And therein lies the heart of the problem!!
