I went and bought it for myself, I didn't want to burden the family with trying to figure out the right rod for me

AND you can never have enough ( rods ).

My next door neighbour has set up rod holders on each side of his garage , he’d have 60-70 , eclipses me by a heap!!

I thought there were two types. One for normal fish (there's 3 types of fish I think- Tuna, salmon and cat-fish) and the other type of rod for when you wanna catch jaws.

Almost every different species of fish you are chasing has a different rod , and don’t start me on the tackle you need , it can be a ridiculously expensive hobby.

Who knew? Fishing for me falls into the same category as watching car racing. I just can’t see the appeal and don’t have the patience. Maybe it’s a zen thing? Dunno. But I’m glad it gives you so much joy Mark : )
