Out of Adversity comes Opportunity to Rise like Sea eagles again !!!

There are also classic tales of overcoming adversity in real life stories and not just
Rocky movies ....

Lance Armstrong: Overcame testicular cancer which spread to the brain and lungs (he was told he had only a 40% chance of survival) to come back and win the Tour de France seven more times!!!!!!!!!

There are 2 types of characters that are revealed in the face of adversity .
Some lay down and die and other rise up like Sea eagles and fly high

We have the opportunity write our own story as well.

Lance Armstrong? Are you sure we should look to him?

Lance has since admitted to taking steroids during his cycling career however he did still battle cancer and overcame immense odds. Its unfortunate that his career was not as exemplary as his will to overcome adversity.

Another example of many
Wilma Rudolph: The Olympian born prematurely, the 20th of 22 children. She overcame double pneumonia, scarlet fever and polio to become winner of three Gold medals in track at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games.

The moral of the Adversity Stories ....
Determination, persistence and resilience, enabled all of these great people to push past their adversities and prevail. If they could do it surely the rest of us including our mighty Sea eagles team can summon the strength and courage to overcome our adversities!

I’m pretty sure taking steroids was what gave Lance Armstrong cancer.

He was the best at his chosen sport though. Pretty much the whole peloton took roids. Lance Armstrong just took more, invented the best ways to cover it, took more again then trained harder to the point where he was unbeatable. It truely was remarkable how much he took compaired to the other members of the 1995 Motorola team.

After he got cancer he then hit the juice harder than anyone in the sport had ever seen. He used blood transfusions that were flown in by helicopter to the small towns that were on his course.

He might have been a cheat, but all the others were cheating and he was just better at it than anyone else.

He is also Cameron Smiths idol.

So you’re saying Rocky Balboa isn’t a fictional character?😉

So the whole team should get on the juice. Problem solved 😉

Sheesh!... Seriously? We are putting Lance Armstrong forward as inspiration?... There are plenty of other real people who have overcome cancer AND did not feel the need to lie, cheat and trample on anything decent to serve their own ego.

Seriously !!!
Lance was real and he had real cancer . He was a real cheat but he also was resilient to defy adversity at all costs and win .
With lance it was all about determination, drive and a will to win against all odds and that is something our players can aspire at the moment
Our players should adopt the Lance motto of winning is only second to breathing .
Lance is not a saint but neither are you or I or any one else . We all have our flaws feathered friend . So get off your high horse 😉

His drive, determination and will to win against the odds may well have been a big part of his ability to overcome cancer. In that context, appropriate and admirable. The same drive, determination and will to win against the odds, to the point of cheating in the context of his cycling was completely inappropriate and not deserving of respect and admiration, in my opinion. I don't want this team adopting that sort of mentality, thank you. If we come to accept cheating and deception as an acceptable norm for a Manly team to win, then I will walk away from this club.

I don't have a problem with allowing Lance to work through his mistakes, learn and grow. But, I am not about to trumpet him and excuse those errors. He has a journey to make and I wish him all the best. He will become a TRUE inspiration when he deals with the hard life lessons he seems to have created for himself.

I didn't complement and focus on Lance for his cheating like you have .
Lance was big on motivation , resilience and determination to never say die and accept defeat . Those are the qualities that are needed for teams under adversity like ours to get back on top . No one is perfect , we don't live in a perfect world but we all have strengths and weaknesses . Lance is also like every one else with flaws . Are you flawless feathered friend . What are your strengths . Would you like to share and inspire us .
