New low in Chez bashing...

I wonder what the consensus on DCE here would be, had he completed his move to the Gold Coast.

I'll be going against the grain here, but he's got a point. I find DCE very "measured" in all his interviews and you rarely get any hint of passion from him. I could never figure out if that was because he was trying to hide behind a very well manicured media persona, but interesting to read that is what he is actually like (allegedly according to this article). I'm all for being an individual and don't mind "strange cats", but I find that image he portrays as one that is hard to warm to.

Doesn't really matter at the end of the day, as all that really matters is him delivering on the field and not being a total dick off it.
Mate not everyone's the same. It's not something he is trying to portray it's who he is.

work in Tv as a Cameraman. Have lived over in UK for 18 years and film a lot of sport.
have as a manly boy thru and thru been lucky enough to shoot DCE a few Times over here on tours and he's nothing like the average NRL player.

He speaks clearly and makes total sense. He always says hi and shakes your hand. Always had a smile. Always came across as a well educated respectful your guy.

mentioned earlier in a comparison but the only other player that comes close to it is cronk who honestly seems really nice. again you never see a bad word about him. and trust me he's nothing like the rest of the QLD side. During the 4 nations last year I was filming a training session indoors at the Olympic stadium captains run. a number of the thick twats thought it would be funny to try and hit the cameras. One tv guy I know got smacked in the head by a ball at full pelt form either Thurston or Ferguson to rapturous laughter from most of the players until Cronk came over and told them to 'fucing quit it' .....

you have the thurstons, Haynes, Fergusons etc that are bat **** thick and so far up their own arses it's scary. most of these guys would if they didn't play footy be on their 3rd spell in long bay by now. no respect. no humility. no fucing idea.

perhaps Chez needs a drug addiction or a gambling problem or a domestic violence conviction or and AVO or some other screw loose before he's accepted.

Happy to take the guy just the way he is thanks.

I don't mind cooper cronk but he's a different guy too. He is a great player. It's not as if DCE has published his own website with the prophetic advice 'dreams are like fish, they slip through your hands'.
I don't dislike Cronk either but I wanted to make the comparison that Cronk is also really polished and calculated in his media interviews but apparently only with DCE it is a problem.

I would have thought it a crying shame that he was let go because joe Kelly withdrew the offer to him and threw tooves under a bus at the behest of who knows.

Irrespective of DCE's personality I always thought he was a great player and halfback. Crusher doesn't miss many.

A good point that!
It's not like the Gold Coast have been unable to get a half. They lucked into TWO decent ones and then they were gifted Hayne, Peats and Proctor. DCE should be a distant memory but the fact the club continues to be mediocre and a poor draw, well the brains trust up there think it begins and ends with Chez. Like Terry in On the Waterfront, I could have been a contender lol

A good point that!

Well it's not really. Of course if Cherry had gone to the Gold Coast he wouldn't be getting the support in here like he is. He'd be playing for a different club and we'd have others to support, others who were on the same team to us so to speak.

I'd still think it's a ridiculous article though and be left wondering why Webster wasn't writing for Women's Day when he clearly can't analyse the game of Rugby League and has to write about how a player speaks.

Just shows that journalism has reached well below the gutter, right down to the sewerage pipes. Can not believe this even passed the editor, (that is of course if they even has one these days). Seriously this is just garbage and I am truly astounded that it was published. Having above average standards, decent writing skills and actual ethics in the media is obviously lacking. Now that is a massive problem and who knows what will be published in five years time, if journalists and newspapers even exist by that stage?

The media industry needs a complete and thorough overhaul.......!

This 'story' is a fictional tale of utter crap. And I find it very juvenile and just plane nasty.

I love Chez, he is a top bloke and a top football player. I was absolutely gutted when I heard he had signed with the Titans, knowing full well he wanted to stay at Manly, but had his hand forced. And I certainly did not feel any animosity towards Chez for doing this, I was angry with other people. It was other people that were being less then professional, namely our Owner, CEO and Five Eighth at time messing us around, not Chez.

And when I finally heard for certain, that he was not going to the Titans and had signed with us for life, I was seriously over the moon.

Chez does speak really well and he is articulate, intelligent and professional. I know Chez is not perfect of course (who is?) but he is a clean skin and to me is an ideal poster boy for the game. But the NRL are too stupid to do this and continue to talk up dirt bags. These dirt bags come across as Neanderthal thugs who can hardly string two legible words together, these same players (dirt bags) also have massive egos, can be rude and extremely arrogant to fans, participate in criminal behaviour etc, etc.

Chez is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and what you see is what you get. Always polite and always respectful. He is definitely not putting on an act, that is how he is, nice and articulate. I know for a fact he has done countless kind acts for fans etc, etc he is very thoughtful, it is in his nature. And he does not make a big song and dance about his kind gestures, ala head gear scum bag Thurston.

So happy that we have Chez locked in as 'ours'. Our mighty manly sea eagles captain, a true legend in the making.

Chez has and will go far in life because he is driven, ambitious, has a great set of values and wants better for himself and his family. And he deserves it.

DCE is one player who always goes round after a game and thanks the supporters. Even after the recent Knights game he stayed out in the pouring rain to thank the few who remained. And I always see him go over to his family at the end of a game. DCE comes across as a great family man and someone who is so thankful for all the support he gets.

The whole thing is complete garbage because there is one bloke that is actually 1000 times worse than DCE for the overly polished media responses and that is Cooper Cronk! Cronk is one boring human being with the personality of an empty cardboard box. But Cronk seems to get along just fine up there with the QLD duelling banjo players. I reckon if DCE played for Storm they would be calling him an utter professional from Bellamy's finishing school.
And Cameron Smith is just bursting at the seams with personality,

Des Hasler's influence?

Not sure. Des has a bit of personality that comes through his pressers, I'd say he is a bit of a character in comparison to DCE.

Mate not everyone's the same. It's not something he is trying to portray it's who he is.

That's what was surprising about the article, I just assumed that was his media performance style. I'm all for people being themselves and not knocking him for that, but I find it hard to engage with ....just lacks a bit of passion, never seems over invested. I can see why people (teammates) may find it hard to warm to him. That's just my opinion and the feel he gives me, others clearly think otherwise, so it's probably just me. I will say I'd rather he be like this than some dropkick, arrogant twat. He's squeaky clean off the field and is committed to his sport, so he should be proud of that. But as a fan I could listen to Jake all day rather than DCE, you get the emotion not the clinical reply.

Funnily enough Cronk is another one I can't stand, boring as bat****, cliche king. Tries to over intellectualise a very simple sport and really ends up saying nothing. His webpage was a crack up, pity he took it down.

What would have happened if he backflipped against the Raiders or Warriors?, probably nothing, the fact that he had the audacity to do it to one of their fellow QLD clubs is what stuck in the craw of those d#ckheads like Tallis and Lewis.
Tallis who walked out on the Dragons with a year to go and sat on the sidelines for one season, and Lewis who signed with Manly only to later backflip also
