New Coaching Team

If greenberg was still in charge, there'd be no way he'd allow flanagan to resume his career if Manly requested it.

Dunno what v'landy "let's not disappoint the fans" would do.

Some text from the aforementioned link (article):

Daley, who has also been linked to a role with the Sea Eagles, interjected with: “I can’t believe he keeps missing out.”

Rothfield agreed, saying: “I can’t work it out either, I really can’t.”

But believes it likely has something to do with the dramas at the Sharks.

“I think he’s being judged on the really disappointing things — let’s be upfront here, the peptides at Cronulla,” Rothfield said.

Daley interjected again: “But that was ages ago.”

“But it was very, very serious,” Rothfield responded.

“Then he was sprung while he was off suspended, there was a salary cap scandal and he had no role in that salary cap scandal but he was sprung sending emails while he was supposed to be suspended.

“I totally agree with you, it is time to judge Shane Flanagan on his coaching ability and not what mistakes he made — which I’m sure he’s learnt from.

*******

These are direct quotes from an on-air exchange between Laurie Daley and Phil Rothfield on radio earlier this morning.

For the people at the Club who read this forum AND the multitude of journalists as well, IF anyone believes that Shane Flanagan deserves a "second" chance, he has already blown that "second chance" by going against the conditions of his suspension during the salary cap scandal (he did not send one or five emails, the NRL Integrity Unit found that he sent more than fifty emails).

It is all about Shane, it was always about Shane and it is all about winning, his way, at any cost.

This is the opening paragraph on Page 9 of the ACC report titled "Organised Crime and Drugs in Sport" published February 2013.

"Some coaches, sports scientists and support staff of elite athletes have orchestrated and/ or condoned the use of prohibited substances and/or methods of administration."

He, Shane Flanagan was found to be "a coach" who condoned the use of prohibited substances, a man who three days after informing the club officials at Cronulla that they have nothing to worry about as Dank was not involved with any players and had no contact with "them" during his tenure in 2011, retracted that claim and then informed the Club that he stopped the practices after a few weeks once he realised Dank was injecting players.

The last paragraph of the excerpt above is one that irks me the most; I am judging him on HIS COACHING ABILITY, and that "ability" is well documented in the peptide debacle along with his INABILITY to refrain from contacting the Club and person associated with Cronulla, yet he did so and we are all meant to "move on", well I for one, will not "move on".

For goodness sake, he, along with Trent Elkin and others "....orchestrated and/or condoned the use of. prohibited substances..." at the Cronulla Sharks in 2011, some older players at the time participated along with some young, impressionable men who did as they were told; are we seriously entertaining the thought of employing him?

Why....can someone please explain this to me as it would appear that his "coaching ability" certainly benefited from some rather nefarious activities and conduct, culminating in winning a premiership, which if we are all true to ourselves, whenever it is mentioned we do so with a wry smile.

Leave him at St George.

I'm not sure we need Flanagan as part of the Seibold Dream team. I'm also not seeing what he brings to us in terms of potential recruitment either. (Apart from Kyle)

I can see what the club is trying to do, in bringing his name up as a serious option for the role though. Its essentially a clearing of the MWSE coaching decks, and the opportunity for a complete rebuild of the coaching staff, and ultimately the entire football department.

Bringing in a "proven and highly competent outsider" as the MWSE main assistant, will enable Seibold to move forward positively in his role. Seibold will be confident that he has the internal support, (that he never really had at the Broncos), to make the fundmental changes necessary.

I agree with @AndWeDon'tCare that Flanagan is not the best choice for this role. As attractive as the option might look at the moment (to some), the "optics" look pretty off to many others. I would prefer Ennis or similar.

Penn hedging his bets, which ever of the two Seibs/Flanno impress him the most will stay on and the other shafted.

Yes looks looks it’s almost a complete clean out and start again.

And to be honest that’s not really a bad thing.

I think as long as any new coach / assistant coach doesn’t get a huge long contract we’ll be right.

2 years , with an offer of an extension if we finish top 6 by 2024 would be fine.

If we fail both years , move them on.
