Moving forward improvements needed

The bunker reviews plays after the event.

Refs then can't go back in time to penalise.
I know but if the ref doesn't think it's penalty efficient at 1st why should the bunker be able to review and place someone on report. 🤔

I'd have Simpkin on bench. Bullemore had a shocker but he gives more mobility than Sipley or Lodge. I doubt Koula will stay on bench possibly Taulau out injured next week but who knows what the judiciary clowns will do to us. I said a couple weeks ago was waiting for the nrl to hobble us. I bet they'll find a couple of bullsht suspensions out of this debacle.
Nope no one suspended from judiciary only Ruben fined

Offloads. I’d be interested to know where we sit in the comp for offloads, but I’d be surprised if we weren’t bottom 3. Second phase play will be super helpful against the best defensive units we will be coming up against shortly.

Big moment that I just caught on a rewatch. 5th minute of second half. Play 2: Gordon hurts his shoulder tackling Niukore, in serious and noticeable discomfort. Wahs deep in our half get a nd get a set restart. AFB makes a big run, bumps off Jake but Gordon makes a massive cover tackle. 2 tackles later Jazz tevega makes a hard run and Gordon makes a textbook front on legs tackle to cause a knockon. Amazing effort and courage by Gordon. People doubted this kid’s defence because of his size.

I sometimes wonder why they do it like that.

They can just let them know after the game, that way their head stays in the game.

Unless they think it's like demerit points - "We've let you know...now you better 'extra' behave for the rest of the game."

It's kinda weird.

It also didn't seem like a hip drop. Doesn't the tackled player have to have his feet under Reuben?

I think so regarding Garrick, but then again anything that looks remotely close to a hip drop is on report these days.

Spot on, we are 15th for offloads with 143. With offloads quality is more important than quantity. Parra are 1st with 280 and Tigers are 3rd on 225, so too many offloads can be detrimental or a sign of desperation.

Arguably the worst refereeing performance of the season so we did well to come away with the 2 points against a seriously pumped up Warriors side. Having said that I thought our performance was poor with far too many drop balls and way too many one-on-one missed tackles.
  • Firstly our right side defence. Almost a turnstile and particularly around Rueben. I think he would agree that was probably his worst defensive display of the season. Cant defend any worse so I would assume a big improvement there next week....and hopefully rest of the season.
  • Secondly DCE. Disappointed to see the crabbing, stalling and cropping across the backline is back. Yes it might confuse the opposition but moreso confuse our own backline. Needs to cut this rubbish out of his game and just play more direct. That would force the likes of Reuben and Haumole to run from a far deeper position with TT lurking somewhere in between.
  • Thirdly Paseka and Alioia. They did well and almost got the lollies against a very good Warriors pack. Nearly there but got to be a tad more dominant. I think they also need another genuine big bopper (Sips or Lodge) on the bench.
  • Our Hookers. Some of those passes from dummy half were cringe worthy but their defence was brilliant at times. Lets put is down to the slippery condition. I think Croker continues to start and probably Simkin to the bench. Tough one as I really like Gordon coming on. This could go either way.
  • Ben. Massive improvement from this guy but needs to make his one-on-one tackles. There were some critical misses there that put the team under enormous pressure.
  • Tolu. I was a big advocate of him being selected on the bench as a utility. Some spark and some good runs but unfortunately I don't think that would justify a bench spot at the expense of big bopper or back rower. I don't think centre is his position as he has difficulty creating space for himself. Winger may be the answer but not while Hoppy and Saab are there.
  • We fix the above and I reckon we are a genuine challenge for the title this year.

We play Nokay a brand of footy that will usually put paid to the lesser lights of the competition, but I feel our lack of executing fundamentals and attention to detail will bring us undone in the finals.

We are not effective enough rucking it out of our end, good teams will pin us there which will expose us further. We need more leg drive, less skipping, quicker play the balls, better service from dummy half

Crokers kicking game, no one ever knows it is on, and the 1/100 forty 20’s isn’t worth the other 99 kicks that don’t work out

Cherry still takes so many poor options, there was a grubber on the third tackle on Friday night that worked out, but it was super low percentage and not the right play for the point in the game. He really needs to compose himself as the captain

We do need more calculated. Offloads, we have the players , we need to intergrate this into our game play, Jake, tent and ola should be the guys for this

Garrick needs to sort out his D, it really is terrible. It’s not always about his missing, he puts pressure on inside and outside of him by seemingly having NFI most of the time

Still need more from Tom, he is playing well, but his running game still looks gunshy to me

I hope Seibold has some new tactics for finals. As I said, we may well enough to account for those around and below us, I’m not sure if it’s enough in September/october

We do some things really well, our early shifts and stripping them for numbers is great. Our hustle on the goal line is really good.

We really need to lock of the ball better in defence and not give away so many metres

I think we are trending up, but there ain’t gonna be any second chances and I think this might be our last great crack at it for awhile to be honest

I like it
Very honest post and 100% agree
Referees were atrocious but that's no excuse for some of the execution, you need to adapt and we didn't
But did show guts and ai guarantee in recent seasons on the back of the gifted opportunities, we hold up a white flag and they win by 20
For that alone, I walk away happy enough with the overall performance, as the areas we fell short can be improved ....its attitude first and regardless of some negative posters I only too positives out of the way the boys stayed in the fight and kept showing up

In D, we have the fastest backline in the comp so there is zero reason for them to shoot out of the line on the edges but instead we should compress our defence to tighten our middle and leave our edges open because if opposition teams want to try to go around us they will be chased down anytime we are outside our 30m. Opposition have the sideline to contend with and are low % play. The other thing is getting 3 players into tackles instead of 1-2 we are the worst for this.

The only thing I'd say in defence of Reuben's defence is that he was much improved in the second half. He stopped getting bumped off one-on-one (Pompey gave him a lot of trouble in the first half) and his contact was much better.

I've liked that we've played stronger second halves lately. Whatever Seibold is saying, they are listening and have been able to change course when we've needed it.
