Well it's another Win
NZ came to play
They also got plenty of calls - some mysterious
In saying this Manly a bit flat from the start and we're guilty of plenty the ref got them for, frustrating part was he allowed NZ to get away with things he pinged Manly for.
Anyways just a thought.....
First big problem I feel, are these opposition walk off the mark play the balls do your head in....are Manly too soft at marker allowing this, or is it simply getting away with this crap that creates massive momentum
I say it's also at times losing the contact, but either way it's something that is a MUST to look at and control as better teams will cash in on the scoreboard
Second thing that relates DIRECTLY to this is line speed, as the opposition seems to be running at a backpedaling defence too often including players still on the ground in the ruck and struggling to get on side.
As an example in the Storm vs Penrith game, the defence was set almost every play ball and moving up with speed and pressure, the attacking player was on back 98% of the time with 3 defenders in control.
Attack is hard to fault, though we were off against NZ due to extra slowed down play balls, lack of depth, a few missed opportunities in tryscoring positions
But there is 1 KEY area of concern that we are streets behind the best teams....and was poor again tonight and that was the dummy half distribution and that was both Croker and Gordie.
I personally feel the best "all round " 9 and when we have looked sharpest is Simpkin.
Anyways that's my take....what area's do my fellow Silvertails need to improve ...all opinions welcome @;)

Yeh Gordie was off with his ball distribution tonight, 40% of his passes were not on the mark, Croker he will need time but for me Simpkin is the best nine in the squad.

There were a couple of others that were not as good as they have been, Bully had a couple of drops with his hands letting him down and Alioia needed more minutes.

Like to see Jake get less minutes to freshen him up for the last two games along with Brown.

Bench wasn’t as dominant it has been.

Good summary- pretty much how it played out

Refs are killing the game. This galoot gave far too many penalties, six-agains and place too many players on report.
At the start of the season the refs let teams decide the outcomes, but now its obvious refs are trying to keep matches close.
Put the bloody whistle away refs!

The stop / start of play doesn’t help the team, though a few of the middles were blowing fairly heavy with 20 to go.

100% Simpkin should be our no 1 hooker. Crazy he’s not. Tongs obviously been told to bulk up, affecting his scooting from dummy half.
Croker 3rd choice for me, by a country mile. Hopefully doesn’t come back and bite us come the finals.

Anyway great to get the 2 points and good problems to have.

I think huamole needs to improve/ get more involved... I don't feel he has been as good post the origin series with his form dropping off (maybe just the fact he has missed a few games & needs time to find his rhythm again)?

Also simpkin needs to be one of our 2 hookers in the 17!

I'd have Simpkin on bench. Bullemore had a shocker but he gives more mobility than Sipley or Lodge. I doubt Koula will stay on bench possibly Taulau out injured next week but who knows what the judiciary clowns will do to us. I said a couple weeks ago was waiting for the nrl to hobble us. I bet they'll find a couple of bullsht suspensions out of this debacle.

Yeh Bullemore is a Beast against team once we build momentum and on the back of that quick play ball, but both conditions and the fact he was very flat (partly due to the slowness of the ruck)....and though agree he deserves a spot, his hands which had improved so much, were helped by the above elements to raise their head once more...needs to pick up quickly or I think wll be in Blacktown in 2 weeks

I think we are one to two upgrades away in the forwards from really challenging the top3 teams.

We have been outmuscled the last two matches but have been good enough to hang in there. Penrith, Melbourne and Easts will make us pay for that.

Glad I wasn’t the only one disgusted in our dummy half service tonight. It was reserve grade.

Penrith, Melbourne & Easts? The 3 teams we outmuscled & already beat this year?

Definitely agree on tonight Rocky...but it's a weird 1....as I felt they more bullied us tonight in the ruck playing a little more intense and almost ugly and due to the fact they won the contact 80%, it earned them time to lay over us and stifle the tempo...
But on the flip side, that Manly pack with the Aggro Attitude vs Storm and Roosters were almost like watching different packs and as much as it hurts to say, we were not Super tough in the middle tonight, with a definite game plan to shift early and get outside Warriors, but the problem was....we didn't knock down the front door first which made it far tougher and just lucky we have so much speed and class out wide, or would have been a disastrous loss

The dummy half distribution put the runners out of sync and created a snowball effect of awkward looking shifts and the playmakers were given hand grenades often....the momentum was shunted at the play the ball continually...very frustrating and will be costly if not fixed....and quickly

I agree. Watching That game live it seemed so stop start. The bloody ref made himself the star/villain of the show. Get out of the game and let the players play!!!

Is it just me, or does Gordy have a split second pause every time he passes from dummy half?
It’s not just you and it has been commented upon previously.

Yes, it is annoying - along with Lachlan ‘Puffing Billy’ Croker’s slow, wayward service at dummy half. Gordon is apparently emulating Lachlan. Both players are capable of a lot more in attack than they displayed last night. It’s a little frustrating.

Against the top sides, we might not be able to afford having both of them sharing the dummy half duties.

We want Simpkin. We want him now.
