Morgan Boyle signs

No worries Maxta, but since when is signing a Hopoate cheap?(particularly being chased by the ARU as well)Schuster will be chased by many clubs and if we retain him it won't be for a bottom contract of 100K,Garrick is on a basement contract and if he continues his upwards trajectory he will need more money,if Gosiewski and Cust continue to impress clubs will be chasing them.Paseka and Fainu were on cheap contracts and will have serious upgrades for next year.Don't forget that the 5 players mentioned would cost 500K to replace in the cap and that is only if replaced by basement deals of 100K.Perrett 300K,Thompson and Walker of 600K,taufua about 200K and Parker about 150K,just using hypothetical figures that frees up with the 350K cap rort about 2.2million(roughly).My guess would be another 200k for hoppa if he plays first grade this year,Schuster would be another 100K on top of a 100K player,Gosiewski and Cust and Garrick could easily see another 400K thrown their way between them.Paseka ,AFB and Fainu could easily have another 400K thrown their way between them.you also have to spend a minimum of 500K to replace the above 5 players if replaced by bargain deals, you could probably also guarantee that Suli would have a clause to upgrade him for next year too, another 100K?.That price tag comes to about 1.7 million and I think those figures could be conservative by the end of the year.It frees up money for a good player and if Hodko goes it frees up more money but it depends on what we are paying for Boyle next year and if we retain Tanginoa and Sipley....my guess is we will have to have a few basement deal players to free up some cash, maybe one top line player or 2 pretty good ones coming our way next year.Again, these figures are just hypothetical...
Damn - I am happy to consult about players abilities, structures and what is needed to win games...Smokin seems bang on again in explanation and 1 of the few to do respectfully....almost 100% convinced based on evidence as above....on another note, always like your input on players outside the starting 17....massive importance imo.
Cheers mate

Manly sign Morgan Boyle
RISING Gold Coast behemoth Morgan Boyle has departed the NRL club effective immediately to sign with Manly.

The front-rower will begin his journey at Brookvale on Monday.

Boyle had been tipped for big things after a breakout 2017 rookie season in which he played 15 NRL matches, including a barnstorming effort in running 177m to underpin a memorable 38-36 Titans win over Melbourne at Suncorp Stadium.

In a sign of just how highly regarded he is, a swarm of clubs were chasing his signature that year before he extended his Titans deal until the end of 2020; his agreement with Manly will last an added 12 months.

Standing at 194cm and 111kg, Boyle offers size and a powerful running game through the middle third of the field.
Adding to this story ....

However, his second year in the top grade was crippled by a pre-season training collision with Jarrod Wallace in February 2018 that left him carrying a shoulder injury.

Boyle struggled through seven NRL games but never really found his feet again before going under the knife for season-ending surgery.

The 22-year-old had seemingly fallen down the pecking order and started the new season on the bench for Burleigh in the Intrust Super Cup, playing just 68 minutes across two games.

He had been set to play in the ISC derby between Burleigh and Tweed on Sunday at Pizzey Park but was withdrawn from the fixture to instead travel to Manly.

Boyle told the Bulletin last month that he was starting 2019 behind the eight-ball after missing a chunk of the pre-season but he felt “100 per cent” and was working overtime on improving defensive shortcomings in his game.

Titans officials have confirmed his departure, which now leaves the club with two vacancies on their top 30 roster.

Gold Coast are expected to act quickly to fill at least one of those spots.

Boyle joins 2018 Titans players Kane Elgey and Brendan Elliot on the Sea Eagles list.

His departure could threaten the forwards depth in Garth Brennan’s squad beyond the top 17 that played in their 20-6 loss to Cronulla on Saturday, given that Jack Stockwell and Will Matthews remain sidelined with injuries.

Keegan Hipgrave, Leilani Latu, Jai Whitbread and uncapped youngster Darius Farmer are the only other forwards in the Gold Coast ranks that are currently fit.

Another potential top-liner at discount rates due to those issues. Clubs try to sign a few such types in the hope that some will come good, and every now and then one will. Fingers crossed for Boyle, and Manly, no reason he can't be one of the big success stories of our 2022 premiership victory.

Don't know how cheap he will be,get the feeling we have taken over his contract and looks like we have extended it through the end of 2021.He was highly sought after and might not be so cheap even with the injury issue.Have to wait I guess until if ever,we hear what his deal is.

Must be still recovering confidence from injury because if he’s coming off the bench at my mob then he’s got a fair way back as our forwards are solid footballers but not future NRL footballers.
I’m chasing up the football manager at Burleigh who is a mate of mine. Be interesting to see what he says.

His games in 2017 were good. Saw him live a few times and he had good impact.

Why suli is coming along nicely?

You have to to be joking. Did you seem him when they kicked to his wing.
Too lazy and slow to move backwards to catch the ball, too fat and unathletic to jump in the air to catch the ball.
Easts winger strolls past this slow titanic to catch the ball and score.

Imo, he is not a first grade centre or winger.
No other team in the comp will be interested in buying him.

He will walk straight into our 17 I reckon. He is actually a good player. Can turn momentum in games
I find it hard to believe that a guy playing reserves for the Titans can walk straight into our top 17, it looks like his best form was a couple of seasons ago, I know our 17 is probably at an all time low, but sheeeeeeet.

Quote from my buddy at Burleigh Bears

“Only played a few games for us mate. Coming off reco injury. Big and mobile but didn’t really dent the defensive line for us.Only young though. I was wondering why he wasn’t playing today.”

Seemed surprised we had signed him

Sounds like it’s a punt on him pushing through these injury issues but surely he won’t be anywhere close to getting a chance in our 17 just yet.

These days it's big, powerful wingers that are the match winners, not big props.
Look at how Radradra transformed Doesn'tmatter. When he left last year they won the spoon.
This season Ferguson is having that same effect on the wing.
I'll get excited about a big bloke joining us when it is Corey Oats or a winger of his ilk, not some prop who was playing for the Burleigh Bras!
