Manly vs Cowboys [Round 13, 2018] - Pre game Discussion Thread

Maybe I'm just positive about what M.Wright has to offer in the position, while you only see his negatives.
Out of curiosity @BOZO how much of T.Wright's game time have you actually seen? Personally I have found it difficult to watch most Blacktown games as they are not televised but from the updates on here from those actually at the game as well as the 20's games I watched last year my impression was that although T.Wright has plenty of potential he still has several areas to improve before he gets to an NRL standard.
What makes you think he will perform in the role at a first grade level? Or are YOU so pessimistic that you think tomorrow nights game is a lost cause and we may as well throw in as many juniors as possible.
I have seen enough of both players to make my point. T Wright does have plenty of potential as you say and as you have obviously seen to make that judgement .
My question is why hold the 21 year old back and persist with a plodder .
My competitive streak has taught me ....
If you want to keep improving You don't rest on your laurels and be content with how you are going .The only way that improvement can be made is though change .
The X factor T Wright is that change .

Good aye Sue, I know in my head what you're saying is true but my heart just can't give in whilst there's a flicker of hope. I believe the Warriors, Roosters and Storm are all failable and we just need a bit of luck with a couple of the others. The hardest thing for most of us is seeing our own faults so I agree I might be blinded by my love for our team. I just thought I saw something there, just a glimmer of self belief or maybe I'm just seeing what I hope to see.
I am with you mate. So much talent but for the life of me I can’t believe we don’t play a power game in the middle each week. We get to the red zone and then it’s Tommy sideways left and DCE sideways right.

Play to our strengths and we can beat all but Penrith Souths and Saints at the moment. But 3 wins behind with that draw is a bridge too far.

Now with Jorge back my heart pulpertations are back every time a kick goes up. He carries the ball. Puts the ball on the ground. Plays the ball with his foot.

A few weeks ago I saw Jorge at the game (he is always there when out injured etc) anyway he had glasses on. I am sure they weren't just a fashion statement so maybe that is why he is sometimes a little wobbly under the high balls

Because the 20 year old has zero experience in the NRL at fullback and the team's biggest issues this year have come been defensive lapses, stupid penalties and errors, not mediocrity. Although he rarely sets the game on fire M.Wright has hardly been our worst this season in these areas. He also has NRL experience in the position and with the playing group. I'm all for T.Wright getting some game time in 1st grade but not at fullback yet and definitely not while there is a player on the wing currently performing far worse than Matt in recent weeks.
I expect the coaching staff believe we still have a chance they feel the best chance to get the 2 points is with a more experienced player (who can also fill in at 9 if something should happen), but if you (and your clearly pessimistic view on life) think the season is done then sure, why not throw the 20 year old in at fullback.

....and I'm still wondering how much of T.Wright you have actually seen (enough isn't really an answer)

The issue I have is almoat every young player needs some time (the rare ones like Ponga or Turbo might not)

Look at how Kelly has improved. Will be be the best centre the club has seen? No but he will be a solid first grader which is what you need in the salary cap era...but it has taken time and mistakes

I had my view and now you have expressed yours
The moral of the story...
. The pessimistic approach holds great people back and the optimistic approach leads great people into greatness .
We will agree to disagree this time feathered friend
One word of friendly advice ...
Never ever let fear hold you back from greatness

I love to share stories of morals - here's 1 that can hopefully help you.....
The deer blinded by headlights runs into a truck....The End

The Moral - The ability to make smart decisions, is to be smart enough to judge every situation differently.

In this case - maybe Tom Wright is not the better option due to having more potential and a safe, reliable approach is in order.

This is not based on fear, more analyzing the situation, the opposition and the POWER game plan I believe will get the 2 points with a solid experienced fullback more so than a moment of flair from an unproven fullback.

2 things in this photo ( photo from our official website)

New scoreboard looks like it is ready to go ..no portable truck with screen up

Secondly can't see Lewis brown in this photo ..this will be the team to run out tomorrow

Scott Bolton ruled out now as well with injury. Both starting prop forwards out for Cows.
I saw this earlier even though they are down in troops still have a few quality players if we just expect to turn up and win cowboys could cause the upset.
Not a given win tomorrow night by any means

I get you like matt Wright but i dont hes a dud and he wouldnt make any other teams starting line up even parra. Or there bench. Guy did one good thing in his time here and your all creaming your pants over the guy. I cant wait to see him gone we have so much dead wood time to clean house

Dead wood is right. Start with Barrett. Can't motivate,can't innovate,can't change,can't rotate,can't drop,can't coach.

No 20 year old player with lots of potential had NRL experience before they were given a break by their coach to excel
We both have different views on this one and thank you for yours

The unproven fullback with flair wont be given the opportunity to prove any thing to anyone by people with your mentality feathered friend .
To quote on your quote "The deer blinded by headlights runs into a truck quote "
People that are blinded by the plodder M Wright will miss out on the what the more younger players with more speed and skill can do
We will agree to disagree on this one .
