Game Day: Manly v Raiders [Round 12, 2018]

He may well have been. I was more focusing on Suli's contribution, and there were some poor reads by him on all 3 occasions leading to tries.
In many respects didn't even get to the "read the play" part which is the more worrying issue.

Shows talent but i can see him turning into a strong running back rower much earlier in his career than he expects. Will put on weight real fast.

Another loss and all the dce haters come out of the wood work again.
No, not a DCE hater at all. He is a very talented player and when he's on, he's brilliant to watch. Nevertheless, he does have some faults/gaps in his game and they will be scrutinised and highlighted in games like today, given the crucial responsibility of his position.

Name one instance where i have put the team down, i never bag just make observations on performance.

Even in this thread alone have backed a few players against negative autopilot lacking thought responses.

There’s about five in this thread.

This is a problem I have with Barrett.Would TomT be a better player or improved at a quicker rate with another coach? He continually makes the same errors. When he gets the ball off the halves he runs at an angle, giving no room for the centre or winger.Dont get me wrong,I rate him highly, just worry that he’s not getting “coached” and won’t reach his potential.
Agree. He needs to straighten up and get that outside defender to turn in. He ran Kelly out several times, then he gets ragdolled over the sideline.

Yeah, like many here, I was optimistic and grateful to have him step up to FG and help out the backline with all the injuries we have suffered. I can see the potential to shift into a strong running back rower. Do you think he may be better off defending on the wing rather than centre?

Would of liked dce to have a shot if he actually had someone to pass the ball to his chest.

People always bash dce for not closing out a game yet he has kicked more field goals than most (when he gets a good pass and defenders are not off side)

I thought we played well with the combinations we had on the paddock. The centres where always going to be tested young and inexperienced but they tried hard as did the whole team. Played hard done good better luck next week.

Sack Barrett!
Surely barrett didn't tell them to kick a field goal with 6 minutes to go when we were going to score a try
As soon as they were looking to score a field goal I knew we would lose

On a positive note. I thought our bench really dug deep tonight. Matty Wright at hooker. Fast becoming my new favourite. There is nothing this bloke can't do.

The other who impressed tonight was Frankinstein. Yeah if he backed himself we win. He also had a few errors and penalties in him. But that had to be his best work rate ever. I get impression, when the game is on the line. He wants to be out there. Which is not most of our team.

Yep, certainly agree there was some poor service at crucial times from the Poo. However, my criticism of DCE isn't simply around an inability to pot a FG this evening. He lacked consistency and composure in my opinion. Looked really good at times running wide (and straight). However, he also did a lot of sideways running and ocassionally turning players inside him for nothing plays. At times he just looked panicked and trying to force too much to happen instead of allowing Hodko to steer the ship and continuing to inject himself discriminately and smartly. He became too predictable and let the side down when better composure from our captain was needed.

Since you are making the judgements how can the figure be "about" five, seems you are struggling to even define what garbage is in your books.

Once you work it out get back to me.

So called Technically Coach posts in this thread supporting Manly.

“Tom is dangerous through the middle when Manly has a good penetration set but runs poor lines cramping the outside backs along with a forced passing game that lacks composure and smarts.”

“Suli in defence was poor.”

“Uate rushing in even more than his standard rushing due to Suli backing off and not making a decision.”

All good and valid points.

Will probably bring about other issues like slow to turn and gather kicks going behind but at least Uate has the balls to make a defensive decision and will come in at centre while Suli is too tentative on every basic second man spread coming his way.(Both ways will have issues just hate how people easily gang up on wingers in general)

He is still young and it is a common standard issue with young outside backs, not knocking him just people need to keep the bagging of wingers in perspective, even if Uate is known to rush in often.

If we had more depth in the hooker role we could of put Brown at centre, or even push Wright into the centres and Suli off the bench as an interchange forward.
