Game Day: Manly v Eels [Round 1, 2017]

12-20 But I liked our defensive effort

I don't know why Manly insist on wrestling a player, instead of one person just grabbing the arm holding the ball?
We waste so much effort on tackling the numerous offloads :banghead:

I think that Myles is gorne - old and stupid and should retire ASAP.

BJ was OK, but his bad habit of wrestling instead of holding onto the ball is irritating.

At least it didn't rain 🙂

To be honest our goal line defense has improved. They scored off a lucky kick, a crazy pass after a 40-20 and had all the ball. We just made too many errors and lacked some pynch up the middle.

Even Norman commented that we had a good defensive structure.

We just made some silly errors and had a few calls go against us. We need to improve but it was a pretty tight game considering we had no ball

Well, same ****, different season. Too much dropped ball. Too much ill discipline. Too unfit (we looked gassed after 18 minutes), albeit should be very proud of the defensive effort.

Gutherson / Druggie looked much, much more creative in their halves.

The issue for Barrett, is now that injuries aren't a factor, what excuses is he going to produce? He's now lost 18 out of 26 games as coach for us.

Let's look at some positives.

Really, given those pricks had 70% of the ball we defended bloody well!!

To defend 6 repeat sets on the line is great work.

Uate looked great, all day.

Brian Kelly in his first game got hammered time and time again but played well.

Green looked ok, and his partnership with DCE will improve.

Marty busted his guts, made a few errors but I bet those forwards hurt tomorrow.

Given the errors, given the possession it was still only 20-12, not really a flogging!

We'll be ok, and be better for the run next week.

That main ref needs to wear L plates. He had no idea how to keep 10 and a poor understanding of basic rules.

That penalty against us when Radradraradrabashbash played the ball before he was held was a turning point. It put us on the back foot for the next 20 mins.
Should have been our ball down their end

What about the sheperd when he just lays there why arnt they just giving the penalty we were disadvataged then they get the advantage ???

I for one am bloody proud, expected a win but with giving them that much ball, sometime due to errors sometimes just their luck, we were bound to lose. Best defence I've seen from almost any side in a very long time. We lifted brilliantly and I think this shows that we are going to be a bloody good side. Great mentality great hustle, great guts, great brutality. Green was good considering a brand new side and was put in some hard situations, he freed up DCE really well and led the team around without being noticed or targeted too much.

Uate, Kelly and Sironen were really good. Winterstein good, Taupau at prop definately proved me wrong. Sironen and Taupau may need to secure the ball a little more in the future but both opened up plenty of offload opportunities and great defence. brown I'm sorry but was an absolute ****head. No reason to do what he did and might've cost us the match, I'm not happy with him.

Well done baz, he's brought together a sliding side and a bunch of recruits to become a whole, hopefully our defence stays that way with our power up the middle showing really good signs along with the backline.

Gotta keep this up otherwise I'd sound like a far to optimistic bastard

Apparently even Bill Harrigan on MMM was hammering on about how bad Atkins was today and most of it was about his lack of getting doesn't-matta back onside in defense.

We will need to be very very disciplined this year because we are going to cop it hard on the calls this year if today was anything to go by. Oh and Lewis Brown needs to move out to Blacktown, absolute fool of a player. Seriously if Jackson Hastings doesn't offer more than this fcukwit then I know nothing about football.

That wasn't the only obstruction he let go today, not by a long shot. French's try should've gone to the bunker for a look, there were two defenders taken out by so-called decoys on his inside that left Manly with nobody to slide across to help Tom out. They probably would've awarded it anyway, the way the game was going, but most refs would've at least noticed it and sent it upstairs for a look.
