Game Day: Manly v Eels [Round 1, 2017]

You are 100% on the money
My problem in this case....as in any game...don't let 1 decision cost a game....
Thing is ...there were several poor calls that really made a difference today
Watch next week when we get a fair shot....EVERYONE here will compliment Barrett and the team in general

One thing I notice, is Parra got the ball carrying arm high, and Scott would then "tackle" the ball holding hand. That IS a strip mind you, but they got away with it three times.

Mate...I was losing it watching this crap...I can't say anything to this claim....court adjourned ....Ryan wins this case hands down

Look.....

It's good for us and all the other clubs to know that even though Parra is a habitual salary cap cheating, women abusing, denialists; that toddy has given them this years 'Leg up specials' award so the bogan supporters out west can finally have a premiership.

Remember this was supposed to be last year but the nrl had to change tack to cronulla when Parra just kept Parra'ing themselves.

We need Parra to teach us how to strip the ball and never get pinged, how to stsand offside and never get pinged, and walk off the play the ball area and....never get pinged.

(Actually the answer is: become a toddy fav, so no hope there.)

Ah, and it might help if we learn not to drop the ball so much.

If it has indeed been decreed from on high (and I do believe it has) that Western Sydney shall have a premiership this year, then...CARN THE RIFF!

Just falling to the ground to avoid being penalised is a voluntary tackle anyway......so should be a penalty either way

While I agree, a voluntary tackle is also when a player who hasn't been tackled gets up to play the ball without an opposition player touching them. If Winterstein had just stood over him instead of falling on him then it would (should) have been a voluntary tackle. I'll never understand why players have to touch a player in an obvious voluntary tackle. It automatically cancels it out.

We will need to be very very disciplined this year because we are going to cop it hard on the calls this year if today was anything to go by. Oh and Lewis Brown needs to move out to Blacktown, absolute fool of a player. Seriously if Jackson Hastings doesn't offer more than this fcukwit then I know nothing about football.
I agree to bring in Jackson Hastings

Lets hope we dont get this ref again next week. He was so biased to the Eels.

Our forwards did there job.

As good as Norman was. And whilst our handling was our biggest problem. I don't like what our spine delivered, it was really rather bad.

Ive always said we will miss Snake. Turbo will do some good things this year, but he wont automatically be as good as Snake. Roosters moved Mitchell because fullback is a lot of pressure. Turbo didn't do much right today. We can cop that, and put it down to experience.

API - No, Enough is enough, he just has to go. His passing game after last year, is still not at NRL level. Must go.

DCE. (What I love about his selection as captain) He has to be accountable.

He was our weakest link today.

He went for the impossible pass, very early on. Rather than build pressure.

His kicking game. Again he is just not taking the percentage play. He is putting up a bomb from an almost impossible position on the field, taking the hardest line. He keeps stuffing it up and put the team under more pressure.

Green didn't have the confidence to steer us from the get go. They will get better together. But DCE had a really poor game so far as building pressure today.

There was plenty of good in that game. The bad just has to be fixed. There also appeared to be a fair bit of nerves in that Manly team today. They will be better when they just calm down and play.

Might take a few weeks mind you.

I feel sorry Baz because there is still so much promise. But I can also understand pressure building on him, just from that one game.

There was just too much of all the same mistakes from last year, on display all over again.

You can talk all you like about the refs. But if they're the reason we lost, then we're in huge trouble because we can't do a single thing about that.

We need to look at ourselves. We started by far the better side. That is, until we decided that dropping the ball might be a good idea. Yes they had 70% of the ball. But it's only because we kept giving it to them.

Druggie Norman and Flock of Seagulls did a great job getting repeat set after repeat set. You have to hand it to them.

I have to say how impressed I was with the defensive effort. How we didn't get lapped is beyond me. There was plenty to like about today even though we basically gave ourselves little chance of winning.

Uate was very good. And I didn't think he could be. Frankenstein went pretty well too. Marty was a beast - he just needs to hang on to the ball.

None of what went on today was Twenty's fault. Criticising him is a bit rich.

It wasn't the win I hoped for but there's no doubt we'll be better than last year.

Hang in there friends. It will get better and by some margin too.

Just got back home after venturing to Brookie…..!

Without having read all the threads and posts since the game started, accept me apologies in advance if I am stating what has already been said.

Brown and Myles need to be booted far, far away from the Peninsula, so nothing new there.

Perrett is not even fit for reserve grade and can’t see him improving, he is doing exactly what he was doing at the dogs, nothing.

Kelly has huge potential, a real positive from the game. Walker was also very impressive, he was digging in big time and was tackling blokes twice his size. Also think his attitude has improved, I am actually warming to him and happy to call him one of ours…!

The officiating was S&%T…..! The worms clearly stripped the ball from us so many times I lost count, it was so obvious. Cheating scum…..! And a few Manly players were tackled around the head, neck quite blatantly also lost count of those, gobsmacked that the worms were not penalised for this.

Obviously BA is a cheating piece of crap and has used his time at the scum well, the worms are not only cheats they are bloody dirty.

Overall it was quite a disappointing game to be at, I thought we may have had a chance and was ecstatic when Kelly scored, then it all turned to crap. The officiating and our mistakes robbed us of possession. For only one game in, it is hard to say but our defence does look better this year and we have some guns in attack. But we also have some passengers in the team and they need to be dropped off at the nearest bus stop and until that happens we will have more of the same.

You can’t have half the team giving 150% and the other half giving 25%, it just does not work.

Everyone else hear, the referee says to Jake and DCE, "well, if I made a mistake, I made a mistake, get over it".

That, is completely unprofessional, because after he gave that penalty, they went down field and scored, meaning that mistake basically decided the outcome of the game.

Thought's?

Manly management need to make some noise about that. Incredibly unprofessional and bordering on match fixing.....!

Also I am not 100% sure but from where I was sitting it looked like Shame Hayne was chatting to the refs on the field before the game. Did anyone else see this or was it someone else??

Nice post. Agree

Its annoying when things like that happen. Totally changes the game. At times in the second half when we finally got some ball, the wide angle tv shot had the eels a mile offside. Blow the whistle ref and give us a chance. Parra get away with it all the time with the offside.

Then to compound it we get a bad call against us, puts them on the attack and then go 14 ahead. Its fustrating but the refs have been horrible for years now. Cant see it changing

Yes I am. No doubt the boys slogged their guts out. I am not questioning the players effort at all. But I find compared to other teams our fitness gets us into trouble and we lose our shape. Just because the players are going above and beyond with determination doesn't mean they are fit. You should be happy I am not blaming Barrett!
