Sorry, but as bad as some of the reffing has been (and it has been diabolical at times), we have been ill-disciplined. Even if you ignore the penalty count, and ignore things like giving a player a facial on the 5th tackle at a critical time in the game, just take a look at the completion rate. The refs have no part in that.

Except that defending is the most difficult and tiring element of this sport. Destroy a team's energy and momentum by forcing them to defend set after set after set and watch the errors come. Oh, and make sure that every time they do get to run the ball you a) allow the defenders to set their own '10' and b) allow tacklers to punch the ball out without penalty any time they feel like it.

For the short period that this match was a fair contest, Manly looked fine.

If Trent and the team are going to look at this game and blame the officiating then they are just going to keep digging their hole deeper. While I understand fan frustrations and venting with refs, the team has to focus on what they can control... AND there is plenty they have to work on that will see performances on the field improve.

There are some good signs (as there were last year too), and they need to look at those things and build on them. They need to look at where they are falling down and work hard at improving them. And quite frankly, the one thing that is going to make a huge difference to begin with, which they can control, is their discipline and ball control.

As a Warriors fan who watched their team bumble their way to just win against Knights, i look forward to the round where we play Manly. It might be our second win this season.
