Manly Sea Eagles: Does the club need to relocate?

The council own Brookie ... NO owner is going to pay for it's redevelopment ... Arabs or Daffy Duck ....and the NRL gives us every penny that we are allowed to spend on player retention ...... NO owner is allowed to spend more ... Arabs or Daisy Duck ....

The penns have taken away the leagues club land that belonged to the members.
the club now has nothing and the Penns have $40m in the bank.
Probably the greatest robbery of all
Time
Where on earth did you get that figure? They bought it for $7.5 mil and the land was valued at $15-20mil. I’m not defending them or anyone but at least don’t just make rubbish up. Coincidentally for land over the last 6-7 years that’s actually a fairly modest return. Anyone that has bought residential real estate has made an absolute killing over that period

... Lurker ... the line from that post that also intrigued me was "they have taken away the land that belonged to the members" ... greatest "robbery" ever .....

surely the members sold the land to the Penns .... small point I know .... but a reasonably important one if you are telling a story and want creditability ...

Can you shed any light on this before I ring the police ...

Relocate to where ? Gosford will be same sht crowds just better stadium.
Allianz will be worse crowds.
Go back to the SCG the home of rugby league, not that penis dome Greencock would even know.

The part I don’t get is I still haven’t forgiven max for Twitter comments when he got into a stoush with Ritchie a couple of years ago and to paraphrase said that the penns were running the joint into the ground and he couldn’t wait for the day it happened. That’s not a person that loves manly. That’s a person with an enormous ego who thinks it’s all about him. He also kept saying the club “he built”. Manly has 70 plus years of successful history which is what neither of these millionaires seem to get. Owning a team seems to be like a plaything to stroke an ego (e.g. Nathan tinkler).

You’d never see Arko wishing ill on the club because something was happening he didn’t agree with. But then again he and max aren’t cut from the same cloth. Arko bleeds maroon and white

That’s a bit harsh. What have they ever done that’s make them seem “not nice”.
Participated in the clash of two sides that started the decline.
Publicly white anted Tooves.
Sacked Tooves.
Kept Zorba in the club.
Sold the Leagues Club.
Have been unable to work with a series of CEOs, all of whom they've appointed.
Starved the team of the kind of resources that the majority of other teams have.
Mismanaged the salary cap.
Presided over a bullying culture.
Enough?

Why don't the Penns call the bluff of the Council? They could just say they won't play there until the council bring it up to standard. Suddenly they don't get 10'games at $45,000 a pop. Surely there's some leverage there?

2 things .. one , you are requiring sense from a council and two .. their position has been they lose money on the upkeep anyway ..

.. simpler and easier to get the message across that the 50,000 Manly fans that attended the 2011 GF will be voting as a block in future ....

Typing error as it should have been $30m not $40m

The Penns sold the leagues club for $22.5m and the car park for $7.5m = $30m well above the $15-20m you quote Did the leagues club have other land there that the chinese bought as well?

https://www.domain.com.au/property-profile/2-4-federal-parade-brookvale-nsw-2100

By selling the leagues club the Penns have left the club at the mercy of the new chinese owners who I heard from someone who knows Ian Thompson that the chinese are now doubling the rent the club pays for the site

The Penns have given another **** sandwich to the the leagues club members

Wow he kidding look at the season we having.
He nephew is reason we in this mess trying to change culture and employ non manly people in coaches box.
Manly fans will stick solid but when you ****ing idiots **** the cap, put from what everyone can see the wrong bloke as coach, its not the fans fault the group divided and losing.
If we had a group that was all on the same page and showed passion to fight we turn up. But serious you idiots sacked a club legend and employed him with a nobody.

Except the Roosters, Melbourne and Broncos I think they can spend more.....

That’s a bit harsh. What have they ever done that’s make them seem “not nice”. Why is max delmege “nice” for pouring cash in but the penns aren’t? Having met Scott he actually seems like a reasonably friendly guy

Hey Lurker, well you must be in the minority then. You are the first person that expressed that sediment. I've been talking to the dude since 2008 and every time "friendly" doesn't come to mind. Sure I'm an ars&hole, but in public I am very respectful, and that didn't make any difference.

Just because somebody doesn’t agree with what’s written doesn’t mean they are a penn or zorba

I find it very insulting. If I was rick penn there is an absolute ****load I would do differently. It’s a **** show but I’ll back the club to the hilt because it’s the club I back not the owners.

Kicking stones, whinging about crap you can’t change and making the situation seem even worse to feed the media train with more false information is ****ing stupid and I’ll say as such

Maybe you’ve had more experience with him than me I was only speaking from my own contact. Mines limited but I support the club and that for me means it doesn’t matter who owns it.

Delmege didn’t have the money to keep pouring into it after the gfc anyway by all accounts so just like people that say if max didn’t chip cash in we probably wouldn’t still have a club if other people didn’t chip cash in. I’m grateful that anyone would spend money on the black hole that is a footy club. And I’m hoping (praying really) that stuff turns around.

Because the alternative is to not have a team and just stop following league

My take on this is as follows.

I had a little to do with Scott ( mostly his CEO’s) and he always seemed professional and keen to see success for the club.

A hard nosed businessman, absolutely, but you don’t get success without that these days.

I have a feeling that the current situation is as much about the Penn’s focus being in the USA and the marriage breakup as is anything.

But it’s 110% clear that he currently doesn’t have the same desire as he did.

They were apparently offered 12 million for the licence ( by whom I’m not sure but plenty of speculation) earlier this year , the mystifying thing is “ why didn’t they take it”?

I don't like knocking fellow Manly fans, but I cant farking believe this.
To start with, no one is going to build us a new stadium without help from the three levels of government, apart from the $hit in the Daily Telegraph no one wants to buy our club, apart perhaps The Bears, and then they would want it for peanuts.
I'll tell you something now, it will be a sad day when the Penns want nothing to do with our club anymore, because finding someone else to kick in for our losses every year will be extremely difficult and probably the end of our team.
Changing owners won't change the way they've playing

You drank the coolaide. Pal, stop believing the trotted out line that the Penns are tipping in money. They have got back every cent and then some through the sale of the leagues club asset. The NRL has always covered most of the players wages and If they aren't smart enough to be able to generate enough income to sustain the club through other streams of revenue they should walk away and allow someone with some real business accumen to run and own it, not some family that have lived off the huge sale of one business 20 odd years ago for the last 20 odd years. I honestly believe if the Penns put a reasonable price tag on the club there would be a suitable buyer found in no time flat, no problem at all. The grant from the NRL covers players wages and another million for administration of the club with a salary cap on football ops, so if they cant make it work with that kind of support then they are clearly not apt at running any business and should give it away. Anthony from URM would be the first guy I would ask to buy the club, he has the right personality and business savvy and really loves the club. The club needs an owner that would push his ego a side for the good of the club and engage positively with the MWRLFC and the fans to generate much needed goodwill and support, winning the hearts and minds of not only Manly supporters but also the NRL, instead of fighting a toxic war with every person involved with the real Manly Warringah club and the NRL. These idiots have been a cancer at that club from the very day they bought into it and the proof is in the pudding, because as soon as they took full ownership the club after blaming all the earlier problems on others the club has dived into freefall and had its worst period since 1947 including the NE debacle and their answer is to once again blame fans. They are scum and need to be steam cleaned off the Manly club. They didn't buy the club outright because they loved it, they bought it because they are corporate bullies who couldn't stand other factions pushing a fan based and love of the club agenda.
