I had not considered the caveat as mentioned above regarding contractual agreements and the conditions included. In that I may be mistaken. However as pointed out Manly entered a contractual agreement after knowing of the pending trial. A contract preceding that incident, such as you are alluding to with Jamil, would probably have grounds for dismissal. A contract signed in full knowledge of that trial is a different proposition. On the surface of it unless there is a clause relating to that trial in his contract, Manly may well be bound to honour the contract. Not being a solicitor or knowing what the contract states I cannot say either way. But its an unusual case, and as I said it is not covered as far as I could read in normal RL contracts. If there is no such clause, Fainu could potentially sue if Manly seek to cancel to contract. Its further evidence that they know something we don't know about this case.
I would think it's dependent on the wording of the contract, it's hard to imagine the club leaving themselves having to pay a guy doing time, it just doesn't make sense

They've been paying him for this year, some of last year and up to July next year to sit on the side lines. No doubt explains the reduced contract offer he signed.

Asked this question earlier but had no replies. So I’ll try again.

I have no idea how the court system works but is there any chance his trial date can be brought forward ? Do they just plonk cases in the next available date ? Seems like a long time to wait.
From my limited understanding, it is possible but unlikely. For example, if another trial is pushed back or otherwise aborted such that the dates for that trial become available, it would be possible for another hearing to be brought forward. However, it would require both the prosecution and defence to agree to the new dates, not to mention that Manase’s case would be one in a very long list to be considered.

Based on the fact he couldnt earn a starting position at his club side we might be overstating his ability compared to his potential.

Agree he was often the turning point in our matches but is long way from Smith, Cook, McInnes, Friend (Radley/Verrils) & co.
If you can't see how potent, dynamic, and incredibly influential Fainu was on our season last year, I strongly suggest re-watching some games. Turbo out (and many others), we were very dangerous through the middle (and his defence is on point). Without a doubt, better rake than Friend ever was, and loads better than all the rest... only Smith, Hodgson can be judged as more complete 9s. Other honourable mentions: Api (who Fainu technically outplayed), and the rising star of Grant who is especially brilliant.

If Field didnt kick the field goal in 1997 Prelim final vs Chooks we don't play Newcastle in the GF that year. He played a major role to the week before in our demolition of Newcastle.

He actually had a great final series that year and to perform at that highest level is something many cant do.

He is often bagged on here but in 1997 he was very very good. I actually thought he was ok in 1998 too.

It went south in 99.
Maybe some people were just put off by that whole murder charge thing?

@Ranga suggests its possible, my guess is zero chance of being brought forward.
The delay for trials has been scandalous for years, the state govt even changed case management procedure to try to trim the wait time, but then Covid hit and they've blown out even more.

They always list more trials in any given week than can actually run. Some fall over, some run, and some are not reached and have to get a new date ... further off into the future! But I expect his trial to go ahead, should be a great week or two of headlines and inaccurate but sensationalised media reports just was we head into the pointy end of next year, the NRL bosses will be thrilled!

Agree on the field goal but you’re being very kind bob.

my main recollection is him dummying and going himself, ignoring overlaps and a deep attacking line of cliffy/Menzies/gartner/kosef/hill etc

Good

but very strange how many junior star hookers aren’t at their junior clubs. Ours are at the roosters for example.
I guess it is because there are limited opportunities for hookers as it is a specialist position for which there is only one FG spot. If their junior club has an entrenched FG hooker, it makes sense to look for greener pastures.

The thing that our search for a replacement hooker has shown is how limited the hooker stocks are out there. There are perhaps 3 extremely good hookers in the comp (Smith, Cook, Hodgson), 3 very good (Grant, Api and B. Hunt) and then the rest are what I would describe as being on a spectrum of 'decent' to 'making up the numbers'. (I'm deliberately excluding Manase given he cannot currently play.)

The Eels hooker has actually been one of their best players and a big reason they've finished up the ladder. Not sure what his weaknesses are but he has done quite well the times I've seen their games.
