[Resurrected] Lol @ Parra

So was just wondering when the press conference is for the actual punishment? Because surely there is more to come, I mean they have only been given a slap on the wrist thus far.

Seriously, I am absolutely in disbelief at the penalty......!

I do not understand the points deduction, if this had of come out in three months time would it have been more points deducted? What precedent does this set? It tells me that the NRL are o.k. with clubs enticing players from other clubs with brown paper bags. That you can effectively set your roster up with half decent players, cop the slap on the wrist and suffer no other consequences.
The fine is also nothing for the cheats, that is chump change from the poker machines. And as for the five officials to be deregistered.....so what.....!

The cheating has been on so many levels................! And the TPA/cap rorts at an estimated $3,000,000 is absolutely criminal, this is massive. And really I would not be surprised if it was a lot, lot more than 3 million as this is only what we know about.

The players and coach in question all need to be penalised as well. BA is an unethical, deceitful piece of work, he is not a hero. He helped to create discord in our playing group and promised the world of cash to lure players to the slime infested toilet that is pirtek. It was not his man management at all that got some players there it was his inflated wallet. They would not have the team they have today without the years of systematic cheating.

The NRL has not handled this at all well, it has been a disgrace actually. There are far too many unanswered questions and loose ends.

The broadcasters were obviously consulted as the light punishment suggests.

So shall we remove the middle man being the NRL and just let the broadcasters officially run the game. It is a product after all for entertainment so it makes sense dollar wise for them to do so? To be called Nein ratings league perhaps?

Today was yet another very, very sad day for the great game of rugby league.

One thing I just remembered that should've been a red light for the NRL was when Daniel Anderson asked Foran to renegotiate the contract he had signed with parra for $1,250,000 as it would put them over the cap.

He wouldn't budge and when it looked like he'd leave, parra said sorry, it's all good...your contract won't be amended.

Since then, off the top of my head, they signed Gutherson, Michael Gordon and Michael Jennings. I'm not sure if Beau Scott was after that also.

It showed that parra knew they were over the cap and spent over a million afterwards.

I know all us fans were screaming about their signings but the NRL stuck their heads in the sand, as usual!
I thought the same. Don't get how they are only $600,00 over the cap. They were over before they signed Gutho and Jennings.

Could it be that Foran's breakdown is the result of him receiving a brown paper bag and him recently realising that the NRL will find out about it?

The bag was full of doughnuts. He wanted chocolate but there were holes in them.

Agree! And I propose that @HappilyManly 's place becomes the new nrl bunker so we can get some consistency!

As some have said here...and it was mentioned in an Andrew Webster article (I think) is that every year teams have to show that they are under the cap.

given that parra had been busted for previous years rorting, plus they went on a big spending spree....just how did the nrl miss the rorting for this season?

It would be interesting to see the results of an 'investigation' into this genius piece of oversight.

Just who at the nrl oversees this and how did they come to the conclusion that all was well? It's terrible...and one could argue that they should be sacked.

Also: I bet some players wish they were unionised at the moment!!

Also also: Maybe it's about time that players, and their agents have a duty of care to ensure their money is coming from legit purposes (at least some process to cover themselves as opposed to the ignorance is bliss system in place now.)

We can't all be lucky enough to accept money from some Nigerian prince who will give us millions, no questions asked.

apparently have about a week to get under the cap and start playing for points. There is talk that all 26 players will take a small pay cut and they will keep current squad.

Kent is pretty annoyed that they can still make the eight - especially with a very favorable draw. basically need to win 12 out of 15.
Greenturd confirmed that paycuts are explicitly ruled out as a solution to cutting 570k off their Cap.

However, NRL will agree to backdate Choc's injury to February if it is legit and only count his salary from Nov-Feb.
But in a twist of fate, the NRL Doctor who will sign off on it - get ready - is Manly's Club Doctor (2000-2012). One would assume that he is intimately aware of all of Choc's body parts.:wondering:

FOR NINE years he treated every one of Anthony Watmough’s injuries as the Manly Sea Eagles club doctor.

But in the eyes of 15,000 shattered Parramatta Eels members and fans, never has respected NRL chief medical officer Doctor Paul Bloomfield, faced a more important diagnosis of Watmough than this.

It’s Bloomfield, who worked at the Sea Eagles between 2000 and 2012 before joining the NRL last year, that will determine if Watmough’s four-year $750,000 deal with Parramatta is removed from the Eels current salary cap, due to a career-ending knee injury.

It’s Parramatta’s greatest hope of shedding the majority, if not all of the estimated $570,000 which the NRL claim the Eels are currently over the salary cap, as a result of club management’s rorting of third-party deals.

As revealed by NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg, Watmough’s medical records are yet to arrive at League Central for Bloomfield’s perusal to certify.

“There are provisions in the rules for players who retire early due to medical conditions so we would deal with that on it’s merit,’’ Geenberg said.

“The salary cap auditor has to be provided with all of the medical certificates and he has to be certain that it’s bona fide.’’

But it’s The Daily Telegraph’s understanding that Watmough’s medical documents will be presented to the NRL and Bloomfield on Wednesday.

The process of seeking salary cap exemptions is completely independent to the current insurance claim Watmough has already submitted.

There have been previous cases of club’s filing for salary cap exemption due to a career-ending injury, including former St George Illawarra and Cronulla utility Kyle Stanley, which have taken the NRL up to six months to ratify..

But in the case of the desperate Eels, Bloomfield will have just nine days — Parramatta play South Sydney on May 13 — to determine if Watmough’s knee injury is career-ending.

The doctor’s notes will then be presented to NRL salary cap auditor Jamie L’Oste Brown, who will determine how much — if any at all — of Watmough’s $750,000 salary and pay, of which can be backdated to the date of the injury occurring last February, will be removed from the Eels salary cap.

The NRL stated that only when the last-placed Eels show that they are back under the salary cap will they be permitted to recommence playing for competition points.

Greenberg also said that he was prepared to “help the club realise it’s full potential” and that the NRL were “part of the solution.’’

In the eyes of Eels officials, the fast-tracking of Watmough’s career-ending injury paperwork, is the answer towards getting back on their feet in the short-term and ensuring the 2016 season isn’t a waste.

The Eels ability to prove Watmough’s injury is career-ending will also impact their anticipated next step, which would be the offloading of current players, a difficult task to achieve in as little as nine days.

Todd "we're part of the solution" Greenberg has already indicated the NRL will rubber stamp Choc's retirement. Funny how the paperwork for this application wasn't put in back in Feb. The timing is a clear set up to give the appearance of a tough stance, but without the substance. Parra will be playing for points and their over the cap roster will be effectively no different to before Toddy's announcement.

Greenberg is all show, no substance. Understandable that Melb would be ropable.

Massoud reporting that the Injunction brought by the Parra 5 have miffed the NRL.
Greenturd is saying that whilst the Court Case is in force, they can not play for points, even if they get 570k off their Cap.@:D

Parra Club Members are trying to get an Extraordinary Meeting called to oust the 3.
The other 2 who are part of the Injunction are actual employees.

Just say Choc's insurance IS signed off and back dated to Nov-Feb, (which will put them under the cap for 2016) Todd stated that as they are under, they can play for points, does that also mean that they would be under from the start of the season and therefor all points reinstated?

Surely not, need to be punished for the other 4 years of cheating and also being sneaky and trying to hide evidence

Haha. Who knows, with Greenberg and Channel 9 in charge? However I doubt that, because it was not the way the penalty was described, plus Greenberg wouldn't want to look so foolish.

Firstly, the Cap exemption is independent of the Insurance payout.

Choc's Cap concession is given by the NRL to help Parra get under the Cap in 2016 as part of the penalty. It won't negate the penalty of -12 points, but will help them play for points for the rest of the year. But it has to be medically proven that he is crippled beyond rehab.

The fact that the NRL Doctor was the Manly Doctor , will work against Choc claiming it's a new injury. He boasted in the DT last year that after 5 years of chronic knee problems, the Parra rehab Staff had fixed him.😎

That's what happens when you open your mouth and say dumb sh#T.

I read that they are trying to claim it's a "new injury" sustained in the 2014 season, totally different to his chronic knee issues at manly.

The AFL took a tough stand on Kurt Tippett when it was discovered that a 3rd party agreement was illegal. His manager handled all the negotiations. Everyone involved got penalised. Tippett had to serve a 12 match ban. Ignorance did not save him. I wonder if this same was to apply to NRL players how many would get more involved in the actual arrangements.
