Sea Eagles prop Joe Galuvao will miss the rest of the season after tearing his achilles against the Sharks at Brookvale Oval on Sunday.
Galuvao was stretchered off the field after a seemingly innocuous tackle in the second half of the Sea Eagles' 25-18 win.
Manly's head coach Geoff Toovey expressed some hope that the injury wasn't as serious as first thought but a specialist today confirmed that Galuvao will require surgery and will be sidelined for the remainder of 2013.
"As feared, I am booked in 4 surgery 2repair my ruptured Achilles so ruling me out 4the rest of the season. thnx heaps 4 the support," Galuvao Tweeted on Wednesday.
The NRL community rallied around of one of rugby league's nice guys after his announcement, with Terry Campese, Todd Carney, Dene Halatau and Matt Shirvington among those who sent him messages of support.
Galuvao has played 78 first grade games for Manly since joining the Club in 2010 and was integral in their 2011 Premiership win, his second after winning with Penrith in 2003.
The two-time Premiership winner has played with the Warriors, Panthers, Rabbitohs, Eels and Sea Eagles in a career that's spanned 240 NRL games.

He's been one of our most consistant forwards and added heaps of go-forward off the bench. He will be missed. Just devestating news for a real gentleman of the game.
All the best Joe.
