Jamie has spent the majority of his time recently at dummy half, and only recently moved back into halves - operating left side. Since Brooks also plays left, maybe a debut with a weakened forward pack wasn't the best time to switch him to the right? Maybe this was for defensive purposes?

At the end of the day, in typical ST fashion, Humphreys is all of a sudden our new messiah - and it's his non-selection in one game, that finally people have had enough of our coach. It wasn't our shoddy defence from our top paid players over the last 18 months, instead it's because our 4th string playmaker didn't get a run. A little humorous to me...

(BTW, I'm a huge fan of Humphreys, and have been for years)

I don't think anyone can say Seibold doesn't have the boys playing for him.

The effort has been there. Even on the weekend against Souths.
Absolutely agree. Actually you got to say the last 2 games the boys have shown some real serious ticker and played for their coach. Against Saints I thought we played our best game of the year with virtually no bench and won. Against Souths our execution was way off given the mass changes but we still managed to murder a dead set try and had another one disallowed. So the game was there for the taking. So I think Seibold has definitely got the dressing room and the boys playing for him. It's his coaching skillsets and game plans that I question and where I think the jury is still out on. Hey if he gets us to the GF then he is a genius and a brilliant coach. If we miss the 8, then I am not sure we will see him back again next year. I reckon it could still go either way!!!!

Seiblold has been hit and Miss as far as coaching go's and results show just that.
The Positives include having the team dig deeper in effort then seen for a while and some entertaining attack and as usual been a depleted roster most season, making it hard to play consistent footy and the mixed result always adds attention to any coach.
still feel we needed a 7 at 7 on Saturday in Humphrey and had a hunch it's more than his defence, that had him out of the lineup.
The excuses are a 2 way street as I personally like a coach ripping in harder, but he is obviously a protective type coach who sticks up for some indifferent performancs.
I have a strong feeling many Silvertails will be happy with him by seasons end and Manly will come home strongly in 2024.

Agree , the experts on here ( well they think they are ) aren’t at training every week, aren’t watching all the BWSE games like our coaching staff are.

I think the decision may have been related to his defence being suspect.

The couple of workers games they’ve shown this year ( which I’ve watched ) I am surprised Faulolo hasn’t got a start as he seems a good prospect but I’ve noticed Jamie H whilst being a pretty good attacking half is a little off the money in defence ( doesn’t seem to do a lot of it ), so I’d reckon that’s the reason.

Mind you someone who watches every game might say differently and I would defer to them as Ive only seen two games.

Navale however was a bit of a standout.

And Condon is a waste of a top 30 spot and should be discarded at years end.

A quick google search has a preseason article on him where it was all based around him moving to hooker, midway through last year and preseason this year.

Another search on the NSWRL website lists the games from this year, so far he has been named as
4 x Hooker
4 x interchange bench
6 x Five Eighth
1 x Halfback
I'm no NSW Cup aficionado so there may have been a switch on gameday that changes those numbers and others may argue that there is bugger all difference between 6 & 7 but only one game at 7 (in which they lost to second last) may be an indicator.

So is he seen as a genuine halfback that can run the team? It would assume maybe not
Is he progressing enough as a hooker? Maybe, maybe not
Is he a running five eighth? Maybe
Was he ready to run a Origin and injury hit NRL side that was backing up from an energy sapping win the previous week? Only the coaching staff know that and it would appear not.

Is his future as a specialist #14?

He's only 21.
Line that up with DCE at the same age,
He had two seasons of Toyota Cup ( 2009 team of the year ), a full season of QLD Cup - he was captain, named Player and Rookie of the year, QLD residents as captain.
NRL debut at 21 but in a side that went on to win the GF.
He's on record as saying he thought he was ready for first grade in 2010 but Des said no and held him back.

Would debuting the other night have been any good for his development?
Two other debutantes, Hoppa's only played a handful.

If Seibold had blooded Humphreys vs souffs & he had a shocker we’d be hearing the same **** that’s been said about Weekes - that Seibold threw him in the deep end in his NRL debut - & how devastating that can be for a young player’s career.
Very true
But if he had a great game, like Lehi a few weeks ago in his first game, would all be calling out what a great move from Seibold.

I think that Seibolds coaching career hinges on success this year and next so therefore he has foregone long term planning and development of players and is trying to win now. He sees very reluctant to blood young players and is happy to let them leave. Lehi seems an exception.
Hmm and how'd that work out in his plan? 🤔

Souths have signed that well rated Super League half Dodd haven' t they , hardly much incentive for Jamie to try and seek a i st grade gig there
Guess that it could be comparable to Arthur being given a shot at i st grade at the end of season 23 and if Humphries could have been similarly rated before the Bunnies game and given an opportunity .
Personally would have thought , Yes , would have compared quite favorably to Arthur 's form level in 23 and should have got the nod .
Probably will come down to Jamie and if he wishes to continue on a modest contract at Manly .
Sure that the club would be partial to this option

Interesting information , and fair comments.

Personally I would have picked him too , however the football department decided otherwise.

I happen to think that they have a greater handle on things than the experts on here so I’ll just take what they decide and choose not to question it.

Maybe the real point is, as pointed out by @mickqld in another thread - we have no succession plan for our 35 year old halfback. It was to be Latu Fainu (I presume), obviously not Jamie Humphreys. Certainly not Luke Brooks to run the team.
