Jamie Humphreys

From the SMH:

“The development comes as South Sydney close in on the signature of Manly playmaker Jamie Humphreys on a two-year deal, despite interest from Cronulla and Canberra. Humphreys will provide incoming coach Wayne Bennett with an option on the bench or as halves cover.”

The two journos responsible (Prozcenko and Walsh) may have been reading these threads.

Makes sense as a Souths signing.

Dodd and Mamazoulous aren't the most experienced so backup makes sense for them.

If this is true i dont understand the young guys we put time and effort into we just let go e.g Samuela in the main and now possibly Jamie H etc .
I dont know but with Arthur the back up (now injured) we are down to Lawto if Humphries goes and DCE gets injuted ? That doesn't make sense to me .
Why would Jamie go to Souffs they have got that pommie 1/2,plus Whiton, and Cody
Canberra have Jamal and Sanders and the Kao Weekes
Cronulla Hienz, and the other 2 guys who are pretty handy players
DCE cant play forever ,is my point ,give the kid a go Siebold

I doubt he will be let go for the rest of the year, the half cover is needed without Arthurs

Us keyboard warriors know everything - and nothing at the same time.

Puzzled as I was to not see him in the team this week the statement from the Herald proves one thing

The guy is an "option", even to the journos with an agenda to push - he is not the answer

Interesting thing to me is Bennett, one of the best, if not best coach, can see something in Humphries, yet our coach doesn't. Either way good luck to the kid wherever he goes.

Gone to the Vermin
I wonder if the last section about an under fire coach at odds with 2 stars is us

Player power at manly has been a very quiet problem and we are coach killers these days

We play our style, we sack a coach, repeat

Its our style that keeps us down, we need a coach strong enough to break our mould , hand them a new one and tell them to play this style in firsts or your style in seconds

Imagine the pressure on a coach at manly that dropped turbo or dce. If he didnt go undefeated it would be the decision, not form

Yeah good luck to him, he may well turn out well, but Bennett also told Matt Ballin he didn’t have a future in first grade before we signed him, he doesn’t get every one of them correct

My guess would be Todd Payten

Such a shame but realistically he is a far better half than he is hooker. DCE at least another couple of seasons, and Brooks and Arthur already very capable first grade halves, followed by other junior options such as Bunting...

And even for hooker, we now have a couple of specialists in Simpkin and Gordie, as well as Croker, and the rise of guys like O'Donnell and Lenaz.

Can't definitively say Humphreys gets a lock over any of these guys mentioned at this stage. Still, I'm pretty certain he will be an absolute gun one day soon

Maybe the club rates Tylor Bunting more highly than Humphreys in the 7, and given we have signed Simpkin both Humphreys first grade opportunities in the halves and hooker are blocked. I don't see this as a massive loss yes it is annoying that we won't get to see him flourish potentially in Manly colours but I'm excited to keep a close eye on Bunting and Simpkin over the next few months.

Our coach cannot see past any player who is not managed by Moses

I would back Bennett's judgement of a player over our rubbish coach any day

Humphries will be another player we let go who will come back to haunt us

Simpkins is bog average and is not the answer as a hooker

The sooner we get rid of Seibold the better we will be

Plenty of Humphreys hysteria since his non-selection on saturday but I've no doubt he'll be in first grade deputising for DCE anytime he's unavailable for the rest of this year.
The circumstances of Saturday were that our forwards were decimated, not our backs.
Not selecting another debutant was more likely due to us having no confidence in the threadbare pack.
A more adventurous move would have been to chuck Jamie in as well, but a debutant halfback whose pack is going backwards is obviously a potential embarrassment. In hindsight the wrong call, yeah maybe, but not an irrational one.
Good luck to him at Souths, and in any Manly games this year.

you forgot to add, and sign Bennett @:D

If Humphreys has decided to move on then the best of luck to him.

The emergence of Bunting at 7 and the signing of Simpkin at 9, his talents may not be required next season.
Bunting has been the Blacktown 7 for quite a few games now i think and the side has been performing quite consistency or on indications during this time also.
Smokin Joe has had a fairly favorable opinion of him for a while now and gets the ratings right on a pretty regular basis
No doubt another reason for Jamie to look at his opportunities elsewhere.
Just not totally sure on Simpkin, only 2 games in admittedly and looked very tidy against the Dragons and for the full game but also some quite ordinary patches against the Bunnies
Gordy. does not look like the answer there , doubt if Jamie could have . , Froggy , if he will be able to regain full fitness , can be solid again but also with some limitations .
Lawton leaving , well can only hope that Simpkin still has another gear

Shame as there is potential there, however my personal opinion is his potential is way overstated on here.

I guess the outrage depends on where you see his career progression.

IMO if he stayed he is at best 3rd choice half or 5/8 next year and possibly 4th choice hooker. Likely to play grade but unsure if he ever really cements himself as a firstgrade half

Can't keep them all.
