We could not have signed a better replacement for DCE. I'm kicking myself... DCE said no to us, and we ended up with a cheaper, arguably better halfback, from the team running first. Insanely good acquisition.

I guess those stats also support why the Dogs are moving Sexton on, though Galvin doesn’t appear to be much of an improvement (admittedly based largely on tigers stats).

He’s a good replacement but I have the dollar chaser ahead of him as ‘value added’ to a side. Just an opinion of course. I know DCE has shortcoming with overplaying his hand at times but I think he’s one of the elite creative halfbacks in the game. The Raiders attack is nothing special and so much of it is off the forward pack’s damage. It’s like they bash the door down to score points. I hope Fog’s contributions are equally effective with an inferior pack.

I trust that his kicking game will hold up but worry that he might feel pressure at times (from fans and critics) when our attack is less potent.

Fogarty isn't the same class of player that DCE is, but with Turbo moving out to the centres we've given ourselves another ball player. Credit to the club, Fogarty is a professional.

That’s what is exciting about it. We’ve seen the last few weeks what a bit of control has done for the side. We’ve shown a willingness to get into the grind, complete sets and kick to corners and it’s worked. At least we know Fog will endorse a similar approach.

That’s an excellent analysis …fogs has the luxury of playing behind the best pack in the comp

IMO The Fog is better suited to what we need. DCE is the type of player to ice the winning play in a final, but he isn't the type to carry us to the finals.

A good inverse example would be the Sharks in recent years. A powerful team that lacks the killer mentality. They can make the finals often, but don't do much in them. DCE would've been a perfect fit for them, and would've given them the extra level. This may be why Gould acquired Galvin now, to prevent the Dogs coming to the same fate.

In my opinion, we are the exact opposite of the Sharks. We make the finals on an extremely inconsistent basis, due to our razzle-dazzle risky style, but when we do make them, we can knock over anyone.

We have enough ball-playing and X-factor without DCE, but we lack the power and grit to get to a GF. Fogarty adds a bit of control and grit. He's willing to stay in the grind, and get us wins, rather than keep going for hero plays. He's the type to bring us to finals, but it's on Turbo, Hoppa, Brooks and Walsh, to ice those finals.

I think both parties will be better off without each other, after long consideration. This is the silver lining.

Paying cherry a motza and still having to recruit the missing pieces has always been the problem . Not because of what he brings but for what he doesnt . Its not new and is huge to all team success the balance of skills and smarts

Needing another million dollar half to play next to him so he can pick and choose and showcase, is part of the package . Tom probably extended his years by shortening his own as he has just followed him with his fancy pants on

More the case that you can forgive someone for being below immortal status, and just about everything else, when they are all in with the club, doing whatever they can.
But when it's suddenly announced that no, he wants to play on anywhere but Manly .... just piss off then!
Having said that, I think there was a period where his form was probably affected by that back spasm episode - when you've had them, there's a mental element and some fear about when they might come back.
Hopefully fully fit again now and can play his best footy (which is bloody good) for another couple of months.
Then piss off!

I see a change. At one stage he let a large forward run right past him to score next to the posts shortly after the announcement. Last week he put his body on the line and made a try saving tackle on big Solomona.

There was an interesting interview (can not find it which is a shame) with our next coach i.e. Kieran Foran where he was saying that the game has now moved on from organising halves where you would work towards a set of 6 etc and that they should now play whats in front of them

I think this is the approach that Melbourne have taken with 3 full backs and Harry Grant doing most of the "7" work. I can also see it going that way for the dogs
