Punchie, Punchie, Punchie ..... now come on ......... are you saying that Barrett is a decent coach and did a good job?
In my opinion he is the only decent bloody thing at the club ...... given the **** he has had to cope with over 3 years the club would be in a much worse situation if he hadn't kept the playing group together ...... He is the only one with any character in the place ...
I'm glad Barrett's going but a few of the players came out very strongly in favour of him, including DCE and the turbos. Plus a friend knows Paul sironen and he said Curtis loves Barrett and is a man's man.
The thing the players have to consider is, if Barrett was that good, how could we end up giving up such big leads and other games just roll over and get flogged?
If the players played for their coach there wouldn't have been such bad defensive lapses so often.
He may have something about him as a coach but he can find it somewhere else as far as I'm concerned.

Mate, you and I have fought the fight for Barrett on here (with a few others of course).
I have no doubt that given the club backing, resources, management etc etc he would make a bloody good coach.
But irrespective of that, the bloke said he was going nowhere and sticking with the players, all the while he had handed his notice in months before.
Now that was a situation forced on him by the supreme ineptness of our fearless club owners, but the blatant lying and then running to Slothfield to carry on was not on.
I feel for the bloke. I think he comes across as a decent man and I do believe he can coach.
But I wash my hands of him at Manly and wish him well wherever he ends up.

Players have been backing failed coaches since the year dot.When was the last player you heard bad mouthing his coach while he was still employed at the club!!As soon as a new one gets appointed they back the new one.Having said that, DCE has already annointed Cartwright before Barrett has officially been sacked as Carty knows our incredibly successful “ systems” , whatever they are.
If Maguire gets appointed DCE will back him to the hilt and Barrett will be consigned to history.I love DCE as a player but Jesus he is the master of cliches at the best of times.
DCEs comments are simply the players version of “ the coach has the full backing of the board” These guys socialize with him and probably like him, of course they will say that cliched rubbish above.They will be even more inclined to say it when the playing group and coach seemingly want no accountability for results, just excuses, unlike Toovey who was made accountable very early on with far better results than Barrett.” A footy brain second to none “ lol. He’s gotta be having a lend

The day a club starts listening to players going in to bat for a coach after three years of rubbish and decaying culture is the day it dies.If they like and admire him so much why do they roll over in front of their home fans without a fight every second week. It’s bull****.These players you trust entirely in their evaluation of Trent as a mastermind are the same players who conceded almost 700 points , ran 15th and wilted every single time the blow torch was applied. If my memory has not left me I think we conceded less than 200 points in a season in the mid 90s.
Barrett statistically is about our worst coach ever We ran second last with a talented roster. We surrendered leads meekly throughout the year, had no discernible game plan other than second phase pass and hope , a mind boggling tactic of kicking out when trailing and conceded more points than any other side.Our selections and use of bench were ridiculous, crowds stopped coming to games and we were basically an embarrassment by years end.The press conferences were hard to even watch.
Barrett is done. No one is chasing his services obviously as a senior coach or he wouldn’t be hanging around threatening court action.I would be willing to bet he doesn’t coach first grade again. He failed at 20s and he’s failed here.
Get a decent coach and this side has talent.Some technical nouse , discipline and accountability and we will be back in the eight and this three years of excuses and hand wringing will be long forgotten.
Of course I am just another numbnut and an imbecile( as you so eloquently refer to anyone who disagrees with who ) who thinks 13th ,6th and 15th and constant capitulations and floggings are not acceptable. But maybe that’s just me.
