Would naturally help if there was some interest for Baz "s services elsewhere but is not happening apparently . Hardly a good indictment on Baz "s present standing in the coaching stakes or ranks . Got some sympathy for the guy but if his payout is rightfully based on a Results Driven analogy or outcome , can hardly or realistically expect a particularly high pay out based on this reality

It's also counter intuitive isn't it...save coin on Cartwrong but on field performances see memberships and crowds continue to decline, players look for contracts elsewhere, sponsors drop off and we fall further into the hole.

That is it exactly, mate.

How a seemingly intelligent businessman cannot see that just astounds me.

It tells me he has a very tight limit set on his spending at the club and will not waver.

If this farce of a cap issue had been sorted it may have provided the Penn's a clearer picture on their outlays, but once again, Greenberg and Co sit on their hands to burn us.

Would not really expect it to happen but the way things are going , may as well get Tooves back , not that bad of a coach , understands the Manly culture and would be 100 per committed and dedicated to his role and responsibilities and probably or definitely for less coin , even if Cartwright is still retained as an assistant .

Though the fraud has only limited miles on the clock he is a twice used car that people now see as a lemon.
Hard to sell.

Madge not asking for 700k and no deal signed.

Talks between parties? yes. Deal? No.

It's a mess at the moment. Penn's don't wanna pay Baz out and it is absolutely true that they will have to do so, the minute they sign another coach.

Another sticking point is Cartwrong. He may be offered up as an assistant to Madge but if a deal cannot be brokered there, all of the sudden he needs to be paid out as well.

It is also true that Madge could end up elsewhere if this cannot be sorted soon and we will end up with Cartwrong because he is the last man standing and already contracted.

The best we can hope for is Baz gets an offer too good to refuse as an assistant elsewhere and time runs out for him to stall. I.e. Pre-season starts and he is expected at his new workplace...thus in breach of Manly contract and no payout.
I never said any deal had been signed. We have an offer to Madge but obviously no deal can be struck at the moment. You'd also be mad to think madge isnt asking for 700k a season.
Alot can change quickly in this game but as far as im aware madge is our first choice and we'd have to be on the 700k price range to get him

The Penns obviously don't have $500 000 laying around to move someone on and then fork out another $650 000 for a new coach.
If that is true than they have no right owning an nrl club. Crowe sacked Madge with 2 years remaining on contract and none of this rubbish (just paid him what he was owed) yet the Penns talk big but deliver **** **** off back to weight watchers if you aren't fair dinkum about spending some coin.

In my humble opinion ... the good news is that regardless of who our coach is next year, including if Barrett stays, we are in for a better year and a top 8 finish ...

Even if the Salary cap penalty of $350k is upheld, we will still be some $1mil better off than last year and with Myles, Lussick. Brown, Uate etc all going, ... and this team that has shown they were capable of some good results with an injury ridden squad, with at times only 21 fit players will be boosted ....

It's all happy days for me be that Madge, Wayne, Cartwright or Baz ......... as long as whoever the coach is gets the support req'd and the full support of the administration ......

Note to Penn and Gorman, both of you only exist for one reason and one reason only ..... to put a football team on the park with every possible advantage that you can give them ..... you didn't support 2V, and you haven't supported Baz .... don't make it 3 in a row ... you tools ..

It's also counter intuitive isn't it...save coin on Cartwrong but on field performances see memberships and crowds continue to decline, players look for contracts elsewhere, sponsors drop off and we fall further into the hole.
Exactly it is a very poor short sighted commercial decision. I don’t believe Penn can’t afford it and I reckon he’s stuck on principle. Negotiate a pay out then pay and move on and build!

Or if money is an issue ..... swallow your ego and give Barrett the support he needs .... even the late great Jack Gibson needed his old mate, confidant and football Guru Ron Massey with him ..... all Barrett wants is a Recruitment Officer, a salary cap manager and a fukken chair! .....

The conundrum is this...

Club can't pay Baz out and afford Maguire.

Pay Baz = Cartwrong 2019

So we wait...
The club can and has to afford to pay Barrett and Cartwrong out and also sign Maguire - Penn just needs to put in more cash

If they don't want to do that and we end up with Cartwrong for the next two years then in 2021 we will either be playing out of Alliance for our home games or Perth because we won't last another two years with Cartwrong winning us two spoons

But isn't the Grant $13.5 million next year and the salary cap is only $9.6million.... So still $4 mill to play with. Its not coming out of his pocket anymore

Believe the figures given are that clubs spend $6-$8 mil on running costs .... so still a whack comes fro Leagues Club grants or owners pockets ......

What I am not sure of is whether the mooted running cost cap has been officially introduced ..... cue our research queen .. @HappilyManly

Barrett in 2019 ! Oh dear

Let’s make Frank Winterstein club captain and make a real bird of it .

Although not alone in exuding incompetence at our club Trent Barrett has

1 A totally untenable relationship with CEO and owner and is threatening legal action
2 One of the worst records of any Manly coach in our history
3 Presided over some of the most embarrassing capitulations in this clubs proud history
4 Has implemented some of the most embarrassing game plans , selections and bench use in our history
5 Has presided over some of the most embarrassing press conferences in our history
6 Has left the club with a culture of excuses and indiscipline and a playing group who thinks more of the same is acceptable

Trent Barrett will never coach Manly again and I doubt will ever be senior coach in the NRL ever again.

Our club needs some strength at the reins, not the likeable yet weak minded and technically challenged Trent Barrett.

Will be an unmitigated disaster AND they know it.

Maybe they just take the hit?!

They will take the hit Mark.

We played like ****. We were embarrassing.Crowds falling to all time lows.Membership in crisis. And the greatest indictment of all ... the players seem happy for it all to roll along as is.

Competent new coach. Young talented roster.Let the next chapter in our great history unfold. It will happen.

I’d say the Penns don’t want to pay Barrett and then Maguire, not so much they can’t.

Wasted money? Yes, but they’re the ones who signed him to the contract and Barrett (or his manager) were smart enough to activate the stupid clause of giving 12months notice halfway through the year.

How can supposedly smart businessman be so dumb? Maybe that’s a standard clause, I don’t know but it is favoured towards a coach wanting to cash in as far as I can see.

One thing this stalemate proves to me, is that the Penns love their money more than they love Manly.

We are a laughing stock and looking to start the new season behind the 8 ball while waiting for Barrett to cave in.

They really should sell up for the sake of our club.

Oh how poor old Arko must be feeling seeing our great club be so mismanaged. :banghead:
