Still a bit indifferent as to what Maguire could really offer as the best fit for Manly right now but he is a premiership coach so i guess that is quite a deal of extra status and rating to him .

That's the point mate.

You can't have a contract signed off very specific to the role and then just switch the role.

His legal team would have a field day.

He signed a contract to be the head coach. If the club tell him he does something else then it's the club who have voided the contract, not him.

**edit**

Sorry have picked up that you may be referring to Maguire in the Head of Football role?

No way he goes for that. Why walk into a political sh*tstorm when other clubs can offer a far simpler option?

Yes get Madge as "head of football" to call the shots, baz is effectively demoted but keeps his title. Madge knows he is the coach and as soon as he goes Madge is director and coach (you CAN write that into his contract as bad has resigned)

But didn "t Baz tender his resignation in July or was that conditional on some requests or demands .[ or was it to extend to next .July on that basis ] Also in the process of negotiating a pay out with Barrett in recent times so again what would technically prevent Manly from attempting to sign or finalize another coach right now . Anyway Snake has presented his take , so would have to be taken quite seriously no doubt .
If this was happening anywhere else but Manly, you can bet the payout would have happened the day the resignation was tendered and a care taker would have finished the season.

The Penns obviously don't have $500 000 laying around to move someone on and then fork out another $650 000 for a new coach. So they are hamstrung. Barrett simply has to turn up for training to be fulfilling his contract. If the Penns sign a replacement whilst Baz is still in the job, they have breached his contract. So they wait for Baz to reach a point where he puts his next career move ahead of a pay out and leaves to take up a position elsewhere, thus seeking a release from his contract at Manly without a payout.

Mexican stand off by the sounds of it .

He might not win us a comp but he will bring professionalism, structure and a strong work ethic to the club...we need that moving forward.

Hell, I'd take him just to help us avoid the inevitable wooden spoon that is coming next year if Cartwrong is appointed.

I'm happy to build for the future and Maguire is a step in the right direction...if we are moving forward in the short term, I'm happy. We need to pick ourselves up off the canvas before we worry about premierships...

If the Penn's are digging their heels in and won't pay Barrett out, I can't see them rolling the dice on keeping him at full pay PLUS pay for Maguire.

Like I said though, if Barrett is not punted, Maguire will just go to the Tigers. Same money, less complication. Easy!

Legally we could sign Maguire for July 2018 but good luck getting him to sign it. He won't come near us until the Baz debacle is settled and I don't blame him.

OK but either way Barrett is gone in six months due to him giving notice.

yes but two things...Tigers job not up for grabs at this point and secondly, Manly would rather have Cartwrong and miss out on Maguire, then have to pay Baz out.

Madge not asking for 700k and no deal signed.

Talks between parties? yes. Deal? No.

It's a mess at the moment. Penn's don't wanna pay Baz out and it is absolutely true that they will have to do so, the minute they sign another coach.

Another sticking point is Cartwrong. He may be offered up as an assistant to Madge but if a deal cannot be brokered there, all of the sudden he needs to be paid out as well.

It is also true that Madge could end up elsewhere if this cannot be sorted soon and we will end up with Cartwrong because he is the last man standing and already contracted.

The best we can hope for is Baz gets an offer too good to refuse as an assistant elsewhere and time runs out for him to stall. I.e. Pre-season starts and he is expected at his new workplace...thus in breach of Manly contract and no payout.
It is a mess.
I know that the Penn's don't want to part with the $ but seeing as the fraud has resigned wouldn't they be best getting him into a courtroom?
I would never pretend to understand the legalities of it but the club has to move on.
Or somehow make it that unpleasant for this clown that he leaves.
Like signing Maguire as head of football and making the fraud watch from the sidelines till July.
But yes why would Madge come here under these circumstances.

They could put asbestos in the demountables...if anyone remembers George Castanza's untenable position at PlayNow...

Mate, I have no doubt at all that Penn would rather keep Cartwrong than fix the issue properly and pay out Barrett.

Manly - where every day is "Tightarse Tuesday"!!
It's also counter intuitive isn't it...save coin on Cartwrong but on field performances see memberships and crowds continue to decline, players look for contracts elsewhere, sponsors drop off and we fall further into the hole.

**** Penn . He should pay Barrett out of his own pocket for the good of Manly. He signed off on the turkey.

If a coach plans to resign half way through the next season then his position is untenable. Tough for a court to side with him for the last six months of his salary.

I just see Madge as a cure to 2 ill's.
1 is the on field coaching.
2 is to sort the whole football side of things out.
He would be head coach and manager/recruiter in one.
I know the Penn's are tight but sometimes, with anything, you have to pay for a solution.
Even if you have a highly paid pissboy around until July...
