What? She’s his relative??

Oh that’s right, he’s a Queenslander. Carry on...
Relation or not, though I admit it would complicate things, I thought I read that she'd given him the spear a couple of months ago, and the wild beast was on the loose again.
Lock up your daughters.

Or great grandmothers...

The club can’t announce a thing yet, we’ve already got a coach for 2019 - T. Barrett. Until that gets sorted we won’t hear a thing, it would be a certain breach of contract.
Unless, the club and Barrett have agreed upon something like...... 'In the best interests of the club, while we come to an agreement about your (Barrett's) departure, we can look for a new coach in the knowledge that you will not be coaching here in 2019'.
While this may seem unlikely to some, Barrett has always said (and I believe him) that he is close to his players and wants the best for them.... so I think this quite probably is what has happened.

I don't get the "they cant announce a new coach because it will breach his contract"
Just call him a director of coaching until Barrett ****s off.

I'd say a contract in excess of $500k a season would pretty specifically state the role and duties of the person in question.

If the club then publicly signs someone else to that exact role, it makes it pretty easy for Barrett and his lawyers to ask for a full payout as the role he is contracted for is now gone.

Barrett holds the cards money wise the longer this drags on.

The Penn's have f*cked up. Again.

But it's not the same role. It's a director of coaching. Barrett would have to be answerable to someone this year.

Can not see any legal or technical reason why Manly can not sign or offer a contract to another coach for next season . No doubt is a complicated matter at the present time concerning Barrett's involvement with the club . He still has the expected obligations under the current terms and it would probably take the course of a cat and mouse game if it is not resolved soon . Would no doubt seem a bit farcical , but what would prevent a new head coach from rocking up or attending the initial official Manly training in early November and carrying out his role there . And if Baz shows up also , well a bit of a circus but if he does not , then he has technically breached his contractual obligations . Would again think or expect that something would have to be resolved soon . If Gus is in public at least , so concerned about Baz "s best interests , maybe he should offer him another role coaching back at the Panthers in some capacity .

I highly doubt that Maguire is interested in the politics of signing under such conditions. He isn't going to sign as the Director of Football, with a verbal agreement that he takes over as coach from mid 2019. No chance.
Either they will wait till Barrett is gone, or Barrett has agreed that the club can look for a new coach (for the best interests of the club) while his own situation is sorted out.

Surely they had a performance based clause in his contract.
If so he should be able to be legally shown the door.
Not only would he be in breach of his responsibilities under such terms he could be charged with fraud.
The goose is a felon.

Madge isn't some punk who is going to get involved with "pretending" to not be head coach infact this sort of rubbish would turn him away from us. Simple pay Barrett and piss him off or don't and he is coach the club put the clause in the contract and have caused this mess.
If we want Madge we better hurry not long before the Tigers and or Broncos come knocking but as usual we seem asleep at the wheel.

Well he pretended for the 2015 season.

Madge not asking for 700k and no deal signed.

Talks between parties? yes. Deal? No.

It's a mess at the moment. Penn's don't wanna pay Baz out and it is absolutely true that they will have to do so, the minute they sign another coach.

Another sticking point is Cartwrong. He may be offered up as an assistant to Madge but if a deal cannot be brokered there, all of the sudden he needs to be paid out as well.

It is also true that Madge could end up elsewhere if this cannot be sorted soon and we will end up with Cartwrong because he is the last man standing and already contracted.

The best we can hope for is Baz gets an offer too good to refuse as an assistant elsewhere and time runs out for him to stall. I.e. Pre-season starts and he is expected at his new workplace...thus in breach of Manly contract and no payout.

That's the point mate.

You can't have a contract signed off very specific to the role and then just switch the role.

His legal team would have a field day.

He signed a contract to be the head coach. If the club tell him he does something else then it's the club who have voided the contract, not him.

**edit**

Sorry have picked up that you may be referring to Maguire in the Head of Football role?

No way he goes for that. Why walk into a political sh*tstorm when other clubs can offer a far simpler option?

But didn "t Baz tender his resignation in July or was that conditional on some requests or demands .[ or was it to extend to next .July on that basis ] Also in the process of negotiating a pay out with Barrett in recent times so again what would technically prevent Manly from attempting to sign or finalize another coach right now . Anyway Snake has presented his take , so would have to be taken quite seriously no doubt .

Maguire will want to be a little careful because if there is one thing we know about the coaching merry-go-round, one never knows where it'll stop.

I doubt the Broncos are looking at him...they would be channelling all their energy into Seibold or Dimetriou as a fall back...maybe even Walters.

Clearly could end up sitting on the Tigers job for two more years and who knows what could happen between now and then...they could unearth the next SuperCoach from the lower grades, or win a competition and sign Cleary to a million dollar extension.

The moral of the story is if a job is sitting there, you take it. The job you think could be there tomorrow, might not be...so many coaches have been sacked, never to be seen again...some of them were quite good.
