Mate you are one of the most sensible ones on here and one of the most positive, but surely even you can see what a **** show this has become!!

It’s just depressing!!
Yes mate trying to stay positive. I was just watching a tribute to Brett Stewart on Facebook and to look around at all those great players we had made my guts drop . The only way is up i hope .

I agree with Mark,
The Penns look like they have made their decision and we unfortunately as supporters who are actually paying their way need to suck it up until it goes pear shaped!
What worries me is the gap or complete disconnect between this site and what the owners plan and do. It is almost like they have their heads deeply embedded where the sun does not shine and they seem to actually enjoy being there and have no intention to come up for air or enjoy the sea breeze available on the peninsular. When was the last time a former Second Rower has won a Premiership as Head Coach FFS?
As for proven performers, he has no premierships, no grand final appearances, yet he has steered the Titans to a wooden spoon!
Said it before, will say it again, the proven formula for a Manly Premiership is an ex player at the helm.
Currently we have Dessie - Unemployed - 2 Premierships for Manly, 6 Grand Final Appearances Overall
Geoff Toovey - Unemployed (as coach anyway) - Assistant Coach to Dessie for 2 Premierships and 1 Grand Final Loss (which Storm were stripped), then Coached us to a Grand Final
Ivan Cleary - Played for us, lives nearby, could get Nathan to come to us, Coached Warriors to Grand Final loss to us!
Then there is Hoss, 43% win rate, No Grand Final Appearances, 1 x wooden spoon - Worst pissw--k defence in the league for 2018, working under Baz, Somehow favourite ahead of the above.
Lets hope Brookie Crowds exceed 7000 for 2019
My God!
Pretty sure Craig Bellamy played lock. Trent Robinson was also a second rower/prop. Don’t think the position someone played defines their coaching

The players back Carty. Why can't we??

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/manly-players-back-cartwright-for-new-coach-20180830-p500t5.html

Manly players have endorsed John Cartwright to succeed Trent Barrett as coach, while the man seen as his main threat, Michael Maguire, is yet to even hear from the club.

Cartwright has been the hot favourite to replace Barrett for more than a week, since it became clear the coach and Sea Eagles' board would be unable to work together beyond this season.

Maguire was understood to head up a shortlist that also featured Neil Henry and Tim Sheens.

Chairman Scott Penn made it known last week he wanted to have someone in place in the coming weeks, but as of Thursday night premiership winner Maguire and Manly had not been in contact.

Cartwright and Barrett looked relaxed as they emerged from one of the club's demountables on Thursday for the start of training ahead of Sunday's final game against Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.

Dylan Walker made it clear he wanted assistant Cartwright to take over, which came after public endorsements from senior teammates Tom Trbojevic and skipper Daly Cherry-Evans last week.

"I'll really put my hand up for Carty,'' Walker said. "He's a good bloke who can coach and has been an assistant here the last three years, so he knows what he's talking about.

"And it would be hard if someone came in and changed the dynamics here. Carty is a likable character, he's a man of very few words, but when he says something everyone listens.

"He's coached the Titans and taken them to the finals and put them in a good position. His record speaks for itself. Everyone respects him.''

Walker won a premiership with Maguire at South Sydney in 2014 and would have no problems if they were reunited on the northern beaches.

"He's a great coach, he was my first coach and helped me a lot in my career. If he comes here I'm not worried and he'd do a good job. But I'll back Carty as well. That's for head office to decide.''

Trent Hodkinson was another Cartwright fan and said: "He's an experienced coach and there's a lot of respect from the boys.

"If 'Baz' isn't here and Carty takes over, he'll do a great job. He's very approachable as well. I met Carty during a City camp, and up until now I hadn't run into him. He hasn't changed. He was a great coach back then, and if he gets his opportunity he won't let anyone down.''

Cartwright was never going to let the bitter fallout between Barrett and the club's board stop him from pitching up for the top job.

As reported by Fairfax Media last week, Cartwright and Barrett have been upfront with each other and there has been no bad blood between the pair about the head coaching job.

While the club's facilities were not deemed good enough by Barrett, Cartwright clearly won't have an issue with them when he gets the nod.

Manly upstaged Brisbane at Suncorp earlier this season when they took their home game north, and will back themselves to upset Wayne Bennett and his team one final time.

Meanwhile, social media went into meltdown when a photo of unwanted Sea Eagle Marty Taupau having coffee with a Parramatta official surfaced. It was later established Taupau met with the Eels welfare officer, Dean Feeney, who is a personal friend and has nothing to do with Parramatta's recruitment.

Aren't they just pathetic the media... Any chance to stick the knife in further, they cant help themselves. Demountables aren't that bad, I work in one.

Because whilst the players are satisfied with playing as poorly and they have this year and coming second last I as a supporter am not. The players are mentally soft and that comes from being mollycoddled by the coaching staff. They want Cartwright because they don't want things to change. It is naive to think that simply letting Barrett go will solve all of the problems. It might remedy a number of the obvious superficial coaching and tactical deficiencies he displayed as a coach but it wont do anything for the mental toughness and fortitude of this squad. With the amount of talent in this squad, this year has been a massive underachievement with the players at times simply turning it up when the going got tough. The number of games we lost after leading early is a perfect example. There seems to be a misconception that a happy squad is a successful squad. Happiness is but one of a number of essential ingredients to success. These players are young men and not old experienced management heads. The player's job is to work hard, stick to the game plan and play good footy, not to run the football club. This players need to real in their ego's and reset their professional compass.

I agree, my fear is that Carty will just bring the same old stuff so nothing will change when we need a big shakeup.

I think the "dynamic" is exactly what needs changing Dylan.
It might be hard for the players, but a change is obviously needed.

Hopefully Carty can be the catalyst.

Or it could be more of the same ****!!

Buggered if I know, it's why I'm anti Cartwrong from the get go, I just see more of the same BUT he might prove me wrong , " might"!!!!!

Glad they mentioned the demountables.
That set me back on planet earth.
Then Dill mentioned the words "Dynamics in the place"
And tipped me over the edge again........
Thanks a lot Dill.

There is no defending (most of) our players' on-field performances this season. However, when they are put in front of a media scrum and asked questions about a person/coach what do you expect them to say?
They have been taught to be diplomatic: he's well respected; he's experienced; when he talks we listen yada, yada, yadda.
Take no notice of these quotes, they are straight from Media Training 101. Same as: we're not looking past this week, we just stuck to our game plan; our opposition have strike power all over the field; I'm leaving everything to my manager . . .
Playerwaffle is no different to Pollywaffle. There is virtually no substance in whatever is said.

That's one half more than many others on here are giving him!
He's already been here for three years and done **** all. I think we've had enough of "giving people a go" like we did with Trent. To change the results the club needs an overhaul of the coaching staff. We don't have time to give someone a chance and potentially suffer another two or three years of abysmal performances.

Cartwright is NOT the answer to our problems, he has been part of the problem.

These players want life to be comfortable and fear change. That is why they cannot handle adversity on the field.
There will be change . The change is that Trent wont be calling the shots . Carty will be his own man .
Trent has proven to be a wuss . Carty is a horse . A bit of difference there feathered friend
Carty was a tough player in his days and I hope his toughness comes through in charge of our boys
