Is Tom's best position fullback?

Hopefully Tommy will learn a lot and improve his game as being part of origin.

We all know that Barrett is not teaching him jack schiit, which is bad for his development.

Both Jake and DCE need to stop running across field and play straight. What are our coaching staff doing?

Tom Trebojevic is the worlds best Centre.

HE CAN NOT ****ING PASS!!!!!

yep. Tonight in the first half he was just lumbering away on a Sunday jog along the in goal trying to get into position. Cant organise defence and far too big/not fit enough to get into a decent position when the opposition are in our red zone.

hasn't improved for 18 months

The kid tries hard and is a special
Talent. But we are seeing how Barrett and the club stuffed up not keeping snake around.

Had snake been around to mentor the kid imagine how much better he would be.

Like whats been posted already I hope he continues to get more growth in his game be around Fittler and johns in origin because he’s not getting g nothing from our inept coaching staff.

I'm not sold on Tom, on the money he's on he needs to turn from developing player into fully developed player.

I know off the field they are great /exemplary but don't like either Jake or Tom's on field demeanor and to be honest if they and DCE disappeared in rebuild tomorrow I'd be supportive of the move and find the team easier to support, it's not like they're bringing results.

We need to find the broom.

Actually Tommy has the attack of a fullback and is suited there for this reason, but his positioning sometimes is woeful not to mention his bomb disposal. Ive said it before imo he's a future champion centre . Bye a fullback move him to the centres with Walker and put Suli and Kelly in the wing . Id bring jorge off the bench for fatigued forwards .

When he threw that forward pass I though "Uh oh, what will Freddy think??" as he said in an article he wasn't too impressed with the ole forward passes.

Considering how far you have to throw one for it to actually be called forward, he may have a point!

That said.... I believe Tom is an exceptional fullback.

Tom creates so many opportunities, probably more than anyone; however, he has an uncanny ability to take the wrong option and blow each opportunity. I counted about 5 tries he bombed for taking the wrong option. The thing is though, he created the 5 opportunities in the first place.

Tom needs specialist mentorship as a fullback. Knowing when to pass or run and postional play in defence. The club should try and heal all wounds with Snake and get him to work one on one with Tom.

Tom will either end up one of the best of all time, or someone who never lived up to the hype. If it is to be the former - he needs help because his game is not improving. He is young but it needs to happen now.

Any examples of when he was caught out of position last night? The Widdop try off the grubber was a result of TT needing to make the tackle prior.

I remember the Brett Stewart organised defence of 2004 and 2005 leaked stacks of points. There’s only so much a fullback can do on that front.

What he needs is to play in a side which isn’t completely ****house, a side where he doesn’t need to be the one to create something every set, because no one else can.

The fact that the side is sh*thouse has nothing to do with him taking wrong options though. The team’s performance isn’t on him either.

Matthew Ridge was one of the best fullbacks I've ever seen at organising the defence, but other than 1995 and 1996 we still leaked a lot of points in his time.

A fullback can only do so much. Its up to the players in front of him to do their jobs as well by not missing tackles or letting players run around them.

And what you said about Tom making the tackle previous to Widdop's try is 100% correct. Many times in these forums and on social media, Tom cops a blasting for being out of position, but a lot of the time he has had to make the previous tackle which would put any fullback out of position, Snake included.

Ridge was a master at it.

Why does everyone want Snake to come back and baby sit Tom? He had a long time to learn from him, training together and playing together.
Snake had a rugby league brain, and natural ability. I don’t think brendon reeves turned him into the superstar he was.

Tom has been in first grade long enough and should be an elite fullback on a consistent basis just as he had previously shown glimpses of. I’ve said it time and time again... NOT A FULLBACK.

He is so talented he can play anywhere in the backline and that includes fullback.

He's our modern day Rowdy Shearer. Best position is fullback but his speed, talent and athleticism means he can play just about anywhere in the backline other than probably halfback and he'd still be a star player.

But like the enigma that was Dale Shearer.....Tom is still prone to the odd silly mistake or overplaying his hand a bit too much.
